Agreed. Looked very assured and one very pin point diagonal pass that set up an attack.
We are well stocked with center backs, Ajer also played well in the right back role when he came on.

Looked good in the friendlies so far.

A nice interview after the Brighton PSF for TV too.

Spoke well, seems to have settled in very quickly around the place and said that TF was a specific motivator for him to want to come to Brentford.

He did a few storming runs and looks very comfortable, but for me he will have a hard job getting Ben Mee out the team

He's a right-sided centre back, so the players he'll be "getting out of the team" will be Zanka, Ajer and Goode.

I think, in a 4-3-3, we'll see Mee and Pinnock rotating on the left and only both in a back 3.

I don't think he was bought to sit on the bench. Maybe there'll be a judgement on when he'll get a regular berth but 1) we're vulnerable playing out with a left-footed centre back on the right and 2) we need one centre back who's more progressive than Mee and Pinnock, so that's Collins or Ajer.

We play lots of minutes in a season. I would not be surprised if we didn't rotate Collins, Mee and Pinnock so that they all play together relatively often. Mee isn't 17 and Pinnock has had injuries, so cover is essentially anyway and Thomas might not even have the luxury of a rotation policy.

I think the idea that centre backs can only play on the side of their strong foot is pretty dead at this point. We should view them as being able to play anywhere in the back 2/3, just like we do with our attackers. Mee is nearly 34, Zanka is 33 and Pinnock is 30, so he'll have plenty of opportunity to form a long-term partnership with Ajer (if Ajer doesn't move to rb).

Think NC is massive , we had to play Meee and EP too much last season brilliant as they were.

have you watched us with Pinnock on the right? He's a great defender but his pass out wide is always with his left foot, so it's seldom progressive, just a short pass to the full back. Not picking on Ethan but that's common to any centre back on the 'wrong' side. We want speed and it just slows us down. Attackers played as inverted wingers is a very different thing.

The reason why they was played so much was because they was so solid as a pair Collins will have to bide his time to get in …

Has anyone any idea why Collins has a two year club option on top of a six year contract? The only other player to my knowledge who had such an option was Bidstrup.

Maybe we'll start adding a 2 year option to future contracts to avoid a Raya like situation.

I thought that the previous post was a thoughtful response. When Bidstrup first went on loan I did think then that there was something not quite right about it, hence the two year option. As a result we did get £5 million for him, so maybe that in future may help to avoid our current keeper situation.

In most cases a two year club option is a better deal for us particularly if the player has a potentially high future transfer value. Hindsight is easy but shorter initial contract length with an extended club-triggered option is a good route when the club is developing young players who have yet to reach full potential.

I'm not sure it helps avoid it, just moves in a bit further down the road. A 6 year contract takes him to 28 years old, I guess peak value for a centre back, the 2 years option retains our interest until 30, a period where that value may be maintained.

I agree. Other than Bidstrup I do not think it has been done before, it does however, appear to be a good course of action.

I think more to the point it allows us two years to arrange a beneficial transfer.
