Nelson ... AGAIN

How many chances can we give him. He has been here long enough now and not inproved at all. Already this season he as cost us today, vs port vale and deons goal for rotherham atleast. i will be corrected if any more blatant ones. Also today the first goal all stemed from the kick on the touchline which went behind him.

the defence has no confidence in him and he is just not good enough, Sam Sodje reaction to the 2nd goal today was obvious. his words were you do it everytime. also how many times did he start to come for the ball and stop and totally ruin the confidence.

Nelson ... AGAIN

Gillingham too...

Care to explain more though on the second paragraph, what happened? Down in Brook Road we have a limited view...

Nelson ... AGAIN

when nelson tried to blame someone else sodje shouted to him that he does it everytime, can only assume he meant the consistant dropping of clangers

Nelson ... AGAIN

He made a mistake, but to be honest the defence should have cleared the ball after he parried...because thats what you do :) Sodje's reaction was partly due to him realising it was his man. But yeah, Nelson has made a few mistakes, but 'keepers do. Im more worried about attack than defence.

Nelson ... AGAIN

Or blaming people? Every time there's a goal I see Nelson shouting at someone. And on his goal-kicks too, when it goes out of play, his raised hands suggest he isn't taking all the blame I don't think, just like a '****ing hell again' type thing.

Good height to tip it over if he isn't going to catch it, not knock it back into the frey. I'm a huge fan of Nelson, and would be sad to see him leave. I'm worred about attack, defence, and midfield after today though... Sam is not what he was last season, the midfield is absoloute sh*t at the moment (centre mainly), and the strikers don't get anything good. Everyone is about a yard of the pace, and we were always lagging after the first goal went in. If we don't score within the first 20 minutes, we're ****ed basically. And last year, we conceded most of our goals in the first 20 minutes. Amazing eh?

Nelson ... AGAIN

This season Nelson has given away 3 goals due to his appalling errors - Port Vale, Rotherham and now today. I've defended him before now but I'm afraid at this moment he's become a liability and too much like Paddy Roache. Sorry to say it, but it's got to be Bankole in goal at Rochdale. Hang on a minute though - isn't Bankole our goalkeeping coach? Oh feck me, we're really in the sh*t now!!

Nelson is the sensible option against Rochdale, but even the most defendant of people of Nelson are having their patience tested.

Nelson ... AGAIN

he has to go.

who else is out there for loan until january

Nelson ... AGAIN

The problem with Nelson is that he hasnt improved....i like him, and if he was more confident with his area...which he appears to be, but actually isnt, then he'd be great. You're allways going to make a couple of clangers a season, but he just doesnt seem to rectify his mistakes. Allthough, his kicking has got better :) . I wouldnt get rid of him though. Ive seen worse keepers in the league *cough*Swindon*cough*

Nelson ... AGAIN

Not too worried about the four in front of him, as before today they had only condeded 12 in 15 games, but what summed it up for me about Nelson was when we were 2-0 down, a cross came in and Nelson clearly called for it, but Turner chose to ignore him, jump in front of his own keeper and head it clear anyway, which suggested he has no confidence is his own keeper.

The midfield is my biggest worry though, they were non-existent today. I still think our forwards have goals in them if they get any kind of decent service, which was missing today apart from the first 10 minutes, when we looked hungry and up for it.

Question to all the anti Nelson Brigade ... as we have no playing budget left to bring in another keeper .... who would you rather have in goal .... Nelson or that clown Bankole ???? THATS THE STARK CHOICE !!

And if we did have some budget left for a player .. what would you rather have another keeper or a decent forward ???

Leave the lad alone and give him support :mad1:

Nelson ... AGAIN

People are only anti Nelson because he makes error after error and seems to want to blame everyone but himself.
Bankole in goal over Nelson? I'd take Tabb over Nelson.

Nelson ... AGAIN

This is a tough one. His overall goals against record is excellent but he is making too many stupid mistakes and too many bad decisions. Goalkeeping is all about decisions and at the moment he does not seem to get too many right.

There again he won us a point at Blackpool and has made many good reflex saves.

Tnhat to me sums him up. When he reacts by instinct he is excellent, but when he has time to think, he leaves much to be desired.

As far as replacing him it would be a brave manager who plays George when there are other options.

He is truly entertaining to watch but is a complete lottery - will he make a grat save or drop it.

I wonder if we could get an outside goalkeeping coach to woprk with Nelson even for a couple of sessions. It would cost very little and might have a very beneficial effect.

I believe Bob Wilson is not doing too much at the moment and is probably a phone call away.

Nelson ... AGAIN

i agree he has to go, hes a fecking liability, doesnt command his box, kicks at least once into the stands, amkes stupid errors. you say keppers make errors but when did you last see the same same kepper make 4 mistakes in the first 1/4 of a season ? yes ok hes a good shot stopepr but thats part of beign a kepper to stop shots he does that part of the job, but goal kicks he should kick straight and just to command his defence and box when the ball is in the 18 yard box. HAS TO GO he is costing us, Bankole to start on sat please

Nelson ... AGAIN

No consistency, that's the big problem with being a "selling" club. How do you progress when you sell your best players year after year? I realise young players are ambitious, but what ever happened to loyalty to your club? Wonder if we would be in the Championship/div2 or whatever you call it, by now if we had kept a few of our better players? I will never forget that git Noades getting shot of Mahon and telling others they would be gone next year, all at the peak of a promotion push! Farcical. I may be old fashioned, but it seems to me that a league managers , ANY league manager's job is to take a club as far as they can, with the support of the chairman and the board of directors. I know they are all "money men", but surely success and promotion are the way to go? Can you imagine what B.F.C. would be worth if we made it to the Prem. Every fan of every club wants to see their team perform at the highest level and they deserve a club to be run with that ultimate goal in their sights, NOTHING LESS! I know it's going to remain but a dream for most fans of smaller clubs, but some of todays very successful teams were no bigger than us at one time. Oh well, I guess that's enough of a rant, but "they" need to realise that our football club means so much more than " a nice piece of real estate. Show us that you share our dreams for f...k sake! I know I have rambled off the thread a bit, but my outburst was fueled by thoughts like "what if we still had Smudger in goal?".

Unfortunately if the owner is more interested in making money then investment is the last thing on their mind. In fact it may be preferable for the club to no longer exist. That way you can build some flats without some undesirables squatting on your land every fortnight.

Nelson ... AGAIN

If you've got a midfield who can't keep up with the opposition and allow them that much time to get a shot away, you're keeper is always going to struggle.

Rather than having a go at Nelson, why don't we pick on the nearest defender to their first goalscorer who let him have way too much time to get the ball down, do a few tricks and turn and score (despite an excellent effort by Nelson to keep it out).

Clarke Masters. Nelson has had two years in which time he has not improved, makes the same mistakes as he alsways did, fails to command his area (and instill confidence in those around him) and still cant kick the ball in the right direction half the time. The fact the second choice is evn worse is no justification for him keeping his place.

Give the kid a break. The entire team was s**t today (Turners stops and Rankin's huff'n'puff excepted). Nelson was certainly not the worst...

At last someone with a bit of sense I was stood directly behind the shot for 2nd and you could see the ball swerving around in flight no way it was at a height for him to palm it over if he hadnt of parried it it would have hit him in the face the blame should be with Super sam Sodje (or any other defender) who stood and watched his player follow up and score,
As for the 2nd half its no wonder he looked sheepish coming in front of the Brook road when he knows that the clowns there will blame him for everything that goes wrong anyway

We'renot all clowns honest. Unfortun ately when Nels makes a mistake it results in a goal, when Lewis/Prately/Owusu/Rankin etc does the same it results in nothing more than lost possession. A keeper needs protection from the other 10 players on the pitch (and i dont mean the oppostion!) to help him cut down the mistakes, if we leave him exposed time and again he is not going to save everything. I saw in a previous post that there are people moaning about him shouting pointing etc after conceeding a goal and that he shouldnt do it. Anyone remember that Tall blond Danish fella, now what was his name, think he was a pretty good keeper ummmmmm oh yeah Shmiechel that was is....didnt he do exactly the same

Furthermore the more crap he reads and hears from the clowns in the Brook Road (and boy are there some of those) the LESS his confidence is going to grow. It was a bad day at the office, however perhaps this is our bad run for the season, we are still 4th and anyone remember 18 months or so agao! I would have snapped your hand off for fourth back then

Nelson ... AGAIN

We've no choice at the moment.

Getting at him is not going to help.

I rate Nelson, but he has made a few error recently, his kicking does need sorting though.

Anyone noticed how his form does not exactly appear to him improved since Bankole started coaching him.

One last point - without Nelson two years ago we would have gone down.

Nelson ... AGAIN

You're all being too harsh on the lad !

Anyone realise exactly how hard the shot for the second goal was yesterday, Nelson done mighty well to get his hands to it at all !

He has the basics, he has talent. Unfortunately he has a goalkeeping coach that is far worse than he so how can he be expected to progress in to the world class keeper that you all seem to think that we're entitled to in League One ?

Anyone see Van de Saar, Maik Taylor & Co on MotD last night ?

If we'd had a midfield yesterday who created chances for the forwards and we'd popped in three goals then there'd be no problem would there !

Nelson is fine by me full stop. Think back to Woodman (a bottle job who couldn;t kick it past the half-way line), Dearden (great shot stopper but ..) and others - we've just been very lucky/spoilt by having Oli Gott & Smith in recent years !

Agree I didn't see it as a clanger in the true sense, maybe he might think he could have done better with the shot but it was a tricky one straight at him, if one of our defenders had reacted first and kicked it away we would probably be claiming it as a good save.

Nelson ... AGAIN

It's always interesting to read these debates & how some players pick up blame immediately & others are seemingly defended no matter what.
Claridge was viewed as a disastrous signing - & I'm certainly not saying that he was successful! Yet in the games that SC played Nelson made enough mistakes that MA actually felt the need to publically defend him. SC was not as bad as he was made out to be - but he did not live up to expectations. We had lower expectations of SN & so he did not get the same level of stick.
I am pleased that people are supporting Nelson & certainly feel that he should not be criticised while on the field. I sincerely hope that he makes it to the top. I'll bet he's glad that his name is Stuart tho' & not Ashley!!

Nelson ... AGAIN

"it would have hit him in the face "
i would have prefered that to him pushing to the goal potcher Hayter. Also would have knocked some sense into his feckin head lol

Nelson ... AGAIN

I despair at times having listened to some mind blowingly stupid invective directed at Nelson yesterday I see that same thing on here, could he have stopped the second goal, christ I dont know, could and should the defenders have prevented the shot or tackled for the first, to damn right they should.

Easy to bleame Nelson as when he makes a mistake they are terminal yet when others make mistakes there is a chance to put matters right. Mr Sodje makes many and could and should have cleared the ball yesterday after Nelson parried it. He also decides to try and play some intricate footwork on the 6 yeard line, he got away with it and in the eyes of many can not put a foot wrong.

Obviousley there are people who have decided that Nelson will be the fall guy every time yet when he saves us points ( for you with short memories Blackopool last week) that just gets glossed over cos that is what he is supposed to do!!!

So for all you critics who suggest that George or Masters play ( have you seen him??!!!) I suggest you take a reality check and look at our ineffective midfield and at times ineffective defence who allow the opposition players the room to take shots and then criticise all those at fault and not just direct the abuse to one player only.

Especially that Nelson has been picked out as a possible recipient for the Goals on Sunday "Powerade Player of the Month Award" for his three clean sheets this month.

I thought that showed how little faith Sam has in Nelson, a sort of well if I pass back to him, he'll probably screw it up type moment.

Can i just point out that we are only a league one team, nelson's not premiership level, not even championship level (yet!)
I think people have far too high expectations of the poor guy, they can be quick to criticize him, but what about all the saves he has made? Nobody can deny he has made some pretty amazing saves this season!

I thought the ame yesterday, although seeing this morning on tele only goes to highligt what a poor mistake this was.....Again.

The shot was not powered at him, yes it had swerve but it should have been put over the bar.

Too many mistakes I'm afraid.

Nelson ... AGAIN

As much as I want all our players to be worldbeaters, the Bees to win every game etc etc, I unfortunately have to point out week after week for now going on 18 months the basic errors that Nelson makes time & time again.

I'm sure he's a great bloke, trains hard, doesn't want to make mistakes etc etc, you can argue it's Martin Allen's fault for not juggling the budget to accommodate a second "useable" keeper in the squad, but whatever the reasons, I really only see Nelson becoming more of a liabilty as the games tick by.

It is a position where every mistake is possibly crucial I accept, but after yesterdays mis-punch / catch (?), three kicks straight out of touch & a sliced clearance that Stevie Wonder would have raealised was going out for a Bees throw I only see the basic errors increasing as even the die hards are starting to realise he's currently not good enough to play in a Div 1 side with aspirations of going higher still.

What's more it was again evident yesterday that Sam once decided to row Z the ball when Nelson was coming out behind him. Turner did likewise in the Swindon game. Is that a lack of a call , or a lack of confidence in the keeper from our defenders ?

Nelson ... AGAIN

Too many mistakes this year by far but he has no competition. If we had a half sensible reserve he would be warming the bench for a few games but Bankole was one of MAs more bizarre signings and is another wage that we could do without.

Exactly! Saying - "but look at the ones he's saved" is only going to wash for so long!! He's a keeper, it's his job, and he does the exceptional very rarely. However he does the abysmal regularly (and I don't just mean the mistakes that lead to goals directly, but all the others too!), and that's not good enough.

Agree that we've got no choice, that he's the best option for the moment etc., and don't like to see him get stick at the ground (or the ironic cheers of a few weeks ago for his kicking) - but at least let's be honest about it. I've never seen a keeper make so many mistakes and still have so many apologists - and until he's not in goal or something drastic happens to his form, I'll be slightly worried about him in every game.

To all anti-Nelson mongs on this site...

Brentford's problem is scoring goals at the moment, not in defence....4 clean sheets from the last 6 games surely means success.
Nelson is the best keeper we have and we have no money to buy in anyone better.
Look around league 1 and I think you will find he is one of the top 6 keepers in the division.

Come up with some original replacement or improvement suggestions, or shut up !

Nelson ... AGAIN

There were two or three occasions in the second half where defenders decided that taking charge of the situation was better than letting Nelson take charge of it

Having said that he does seem quite good at telling defenders what is going on i.e on one occasion on Saturday Framps was attempting to let the ball run out and Nelson was constantly telling him where the forward was.

I think he has learnt the lesson from the other week about the wall at free kicks. He and KO did a good job of organising it and he even got Lloyd to move to the end which as it turned out was exactly where the guy aimed the ball and it hit Lloyd square inthe forehead.

Is there an argument that says with no reserve team any damage to his confidence will be increased if he is dropped because he will have limited opportunities to work on the issues in a match situation?

Given the options I think there is no option other than hope he can come good liek he did after a dodgy spell last year
