New Stadium Progress

Please see the news story for full details.

The important things to note are:
  • the land has been purchased by Barretts
  • the council has indicated that they may be prepared to use Compulsory Purchase powers to support the project
  • the LDA look forward to being part of the project

Wonderful news. I work at SEGA on the Great West Road and overlook this site so it's great to hear of further progress.

What timescales are we working towards now for stadium completion I wonder :gettingaheadofmyselfsmilie: :D

New Stadium Progress

good news and nobody will be moved out of there homes so there will be no protests from people in the local area can see some fulham and qpr fans coming down to complain because we will have a better stadium then them

Last I heard was to be completed by 2012 which is fairly realistic as we have yet to submit and gain approval for planning permission. I would suggest todays announcement is a significant step along the way and again offer my thanks to those involved behind the scenes for making it happen :)

New Stadium Progress

.........................looking good..........................

New Stadium Progress

Any chance that we might get some help from that bottomless money-pit, London 2012? Host the hockey final, if you'll give us a million or so!

foir once in my life I think the bees may one day have a new home...its sound less like bullshit

New Stadium Progress

Well done to everyone invloved:sorted:

Keep up the good work!

New Stadium Progress

Well done Bees,
Another great stride forward. What a turn around a superb manager taking charge of the playing aspects and creating a team we can all be proud of, now a superb new stadium on the way. Keep on moving forward!

New Stadium Progress

I'll still believe it when I see it. Is this the first time the Barretts name has been mentioned publicly with LR and the GP re-development?

New Stadium Progress

It seems like everything is finally coming together for the club.

Made my day this has! :D

Think it was a fairly open secret that Barratts were involved.

New Stadium Progress

Excellent stuff. Well done to all involved in gettings things this far. Hopefully things can keep going to plan until we are in situ in the new stadium:sorted:

Onwards and upwards:)

in the words of Mottie " this just gets better and better "
onwards and upwards is very apt just now

All those cranes on the Griffen Park northern skyline seem to be Barratt, seems we are just part of a big redevelopment in the east end of the Gt West road.
As Barratt seem OK with planning authorities for the other sites maybe our part can be eased thru without to much delay.

New Stadium Progress

Excellent news!

Re design, as I don't know if the other thread on Lionel Rd is being closed, I would be very happy with the 'mock up' shown with the lead story. Modern but individual & looks like a proper football stadium.

Re capacity, has to be 20k for me (with some ability to increase built in if possible)

New Stadium Progress

My congratulations to everyone involved in getting us to this stage. Both those involved now and all who have helped over the past few years.

Now that the land purchase is complete the next stages will be the hardest. particularly gaining planning permission. it will not be easy and I suspect (as with all major redevelopmets) that it will come in for some opposition/criticism. However if the club approach it in the correct way I am sure that they will be able to overcome any concerns raised by the local community.

keep going all the hard work starts now!

New Stadium Progress

As the immediate vicinity has few residents, what would the planning issues be - displaced businesses, car parking, transport and the school etc. needs of the people buying flats in the development. The environmental impacts are presumably quite limited in that brownfield site. Any others?

New Stadium Progress

Excellent news. One more step along the road to greatness.

:bound:

Good news.

One thought/query, when the stadium is built, who will own that specific freehold - the club or Barratts?

transport/traffic will I expect be a major issue as will the impact of the sight lines to Kew Gardens a world heritage site. When including residential there is a raft of planning guidance that will need to be met either onsite or off site through S106 agreements such as amenity space.

I am reasured by the last two paragraphs of the statement that these issues will be handled by relevent proffesionals.

New Stadium Progress

Transport might be easier in that Kew Bridge station is on the site (more or less anyway).

Maybe Brentford can sort something out.

Banana, don't you need to quote your news story to the Brentford website, isn't it plagiarism or something ?

New Stadium Progress

we're off.................................... with the backing of LBH and LDA this should move forward at some pace, i hope, now. Planning should be ok for the stadium, it just depends on the leisure centre/watermans centre/flats being ok with LBH. This is a big step forward and congrats to getting this far, get it built by 2011/12 season and an Olympic event for 2012 or training facilities for a country to use would be forthcoming i'm sure.

It's a press release issued by the club. It may well be in the Standard tonight to - without a link to the BU or BFC web site.

New Stadium Progress

Has anyone got any other pictures of the stadium?

Just wondering though, how close will the new stadium look like compered to the one we have been shown.

If it looks like that one , i for one will be very happy.

I just dont want it looking like something from MFI or anything like a lot of these "plastic looking sheds" some clubs have come up with .

we could stick an arboreum on the roof, some of those telescopes at fifty pence a go...
lionel road - the next world heritage site?! :sorted:

Yet another sign that we have got our Brentford back. :sorted:

New Stadium Progress

So what else is in the pipeline to be built there?
There is the stadium and housing but will it be like the Galpharm (McAlpine) in Huddersfield where there is a swimming pool and sports complex with a couple restaurants and cinema?
How about a skating rink? Don't know how many of you remember going to Richmond a fews years ago, but it seems like there isn't one close by
Oh, and please don't forget to include a drinking establishment on every corner...

It might be completely different. I understand companies are to pitch for the design contract very soon.

New Stadium Progress

I hope its called Lionel Road as opposed to some crap name like MK Dons one or Shrewsbury

New Stadium Progress

there is nothing to stop it being named "Griffin Park" :D:D:D

there was talk of moving the Watermans Art Centre to the area, selling off the prime river side plot where Watermans is now. Also, the Fountain Leisure Centre, was another complex moving to LR. It all depends on room, as the Stadium and residential i'd have thought was first(?) i'm sure mark or banana will put me right.

New Stadium Progress

Great news. I am just getting ready to start the trip to Chesterfield and this has made my day.

New Stadium Progress

New Griffin Park sounds about right. :sorted:

New Stadium Progress

We should change the name of Griffin Park to Old Griffin park once the new one starts being built - that way we can call the new stadium Griffin Park. Perhaps.

what are the chances the fans will get to see the designs before a decision is made?
although the final decision will have to include other considerations, fan input on the new stadiums aesthetics could be a worthwhile exercise.

New Stadium Progress

I'm all for sponsored stadium name. Especially if it will either reduce the debt, or improve the team.

As a fans owned club with a majority share in the hands of "ordinary" fans, I think that should happen by right tbh.

New Stadium Progress

"Griffin Park" will do for me....................................

or "The 'Virgin' Stadium" !!

or "The Barratts Home Park".....................
