New Stadium Progress

Terracing is not going in at Lionel Road. It's not an option.

Well that's rubbish, I don't like the new stadium already.
Sitting down at football just isn't natural (unless you are old or infirm) and there is a much better atmosphere when there is terracing.
Terracing is more social too, you can move around to catch up with mates or get away from obnoxious, non-witty noisy people (some people know who I'm talking about)
I don't believe seating is safer anyway, getting out of the ground quickly is a lot harder when you are tripping over seats.
Why can't we have terraces? Who has made this decision? Not the real fans, that's for sure! :grumpy-faced smillie

New Stadium Progress

You get three years to convert to terracing in the Championship if we got promoted - what a waste of money when it could be built from the start.

If people want to a follow a stay-in-the-lower-divisions-forever football club then fine. I don't, I want one with ambition.

Forget the rights or wrongs of terracing, the legislation is here to stay and we have to follow it.

I like terracing and standing too but I really don't believe it is safer. I have had some scary moments when crowds lurch forward and push you against the barriers. Standing in seating areas can also be unfair to the less mobile when the people in front of them leap to their feet just at a crucial or exciting moment like the winning goal

oh how i miss the Royal Oak surge............................. :(

Having seen Sir Tom Finney's face in the seats at Preston's Deepdale..

I'd like to see something like this at Lionel Road with one of our legends..

I would like to see facial casts of all the fans player of the year running along the side walls of the players tunnel so that it gives incentive and inspiration to our team at the start of each game.

How about canvassing the opinions of supporters first?
(After all, they are the ones who will be going there)!
A terrace area could be considered with seating added to that section when required as part of the deal which would then not incur any extra costs?
(Might liven the dump up a bit too)!
Oh no! Sorry I forgot, this club isn't about what many true Brentford fans want any more!
(I'm off for a ciggy)!lol

There is not one construction company in the world that would agree to that condition. Lionel Road is going to be an all-seater stadium, end of.

New Stadium Progress

Where there's a will there is a way.

I am sure a small safe standing area could be realistically considered for inclusion with no major future cost issues built in. They do it in Germany so why not here.

I would like to hear an authorative reasoned argument as to why it could/ should not happen not just a "It is not going to happen" type of approach.

It does not show a lack of ambition, if we get to the Championship and stay there for three years I am sure most of us would have no problem in the club complying with all seater status as we would have reached a position in the league we have not done for 60 years or more.

This issue is one of those that should have wide consultation with supporters as feelings probably run high on it and is IMHO indicative of whether we are going to get any say in the stadium design or not.

New Stadium Progress

we will never fill a 20,000+ stadium, all-seater or otherwise, "end of" (i.e. because i said so).

Would it be possible to include in the stadium design a large bar area at each corner of the ground inside the concourse, and name these after each pub?

Name all the stands after an influential person in the Bees' history (still keeping the Bill Axbey stand), but still keep certain areas/blocks with 'traditional' names, ie Paddock for the first 5-10 rows of seats on one side, Royal Oak for the section directly behind one of the goals, rather than the bland old Block A/B/C etc

That then keeps enough of the 'old', and anyone for a six-figure sum can call the stadium what they like, and paint as many adverts on top of the roofs as they want.

Because, at the end of the day, we'll all still call it Lionel Road whatever happens, as that's what it's always been known as to us throughout the whole project. Bradford is now the 'Coral Windows Stadium', but everyone calls it Valley Parade, and we'll be no different.

(Sorry posted this in the wrong new stadium thread. Can someone move it? Thanks!)

I disagree with naming the four pubs in anything.

We are moving from Griffin Park. Griffin Park will have some memorable moments, and moments we all want to forget, but this is a new break. Start something new, get new heritage from this new stadium.

Every stadium has something about it. Griffin Park had 4 pubs. Lionel Road (or whatever) will surely have something, but please not the pubs. Plus if we name anything after the pubs, isn't that free advertising for these?

And I'd argue that it is very wrong to say that 'the borough's worst' live in social housing. The former Cllr Kirton of this parish would certainly disagree.
Of course not, and I do agree. However, when it's done badly, it goes very wrong. From my own personal experience, we moved into a semi in Greenford in 1992. The next year the 6 council houses next to us lost their residents and the council went about building a tower block, then shipped in various nasties from elsewhere in the borough. The sort of people who would use our front wall as a gathering place, keyed both the cars and regularly threw things at our dog when he was in the back garden, including fireworks. A mix of affordable and social would of course be the best mix. I'm just saying that it has to be done right and not seen by Hounslow as an opportunity to clean up other areas. If the housing really is affordable and I don't end up going to Australia, I'd definitely consider trying to buy/rent around there.

I hope the new stadium isn't as boring-looking as the Chesterfield artist impressions. What a personalityless place that is.

Exactly. If Fullers want their name/beer/pubs linked with the new stadium, then they should get their cheque book out (providing we take cheques http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7256315.stm ;) ).

If we were going to name bars after people and get no money for it, then we should name them after Bees Legends. The Jay Tabb Bar or the Peter Gilham Lounge?

Whatever it is called can we please make sure one of the stands is still the The Bill Axbey Stand

New Stadium Progress

Family stand should neither be at either end nor near the halfway line. Ideally, both long stands should be family friendly anyway.

New Stadium Progress

I know the singing section like behind the goal, but a long stretch of people singing is ideal.
That's a point actually. Can we have the materials tested for sound reflection, not absorption, thanks :sorted:

re the four pubs, what do people think will happen to them when the vast majority of their trade is moved a mile down the road?

New Stadium Progress

Don't think much will happen.

Other than getting off at Kew Bridge which is closer, I think some will still continue to get off at Brentford and meet their pals at the pubs. It is still a short walk around the corner for the new one.

New Stadium Progress

we need to be working towards getting out of this poxy league first, 2012 should be about right!!

Not being up on such things, do match days generate enough revenue to subsidise the 300+ non matchdays per year anyway?

New Stadium Progress

dunno. they would seem to? apart from the princess royal of course :fishing:

the griffin always seems rammed from 1pm until 7pm on a saturdays and i can't see it being that busy on other days, except for england football/rugby maybe. who knows perhaps all the local residents will fill them up when all the horrible football fans go away...

i am not an expert either and expect to be shot down in flames shortly!

I'd guess that weeknights are just enough to keep the places ticking over, although probably not with nearly as many staff as matchdays, otherwise there wouldn't be four of them, but I'm sure when Brentford was a more industrial community outside of London they would have seen a lot more business than they do now.
If the locals can't even be bothered to bring their kids 100 yards down the road to watch some football, instead preferring to have them run about their gardens in full Chelsea kids kits (at a cost of £53.97 excluding footwear, fact fans), I severely doubt that they're champing at the bit to get in any of the local pubs if only those horrible stripey bastards weren't in there.
Which is a shame for the pubs, but there you go. I'm sure anyone sensible who owns one is seriously considering their position and the business plan for the next 5 years.

Since the smoking ban I never go in pubs now. I know we are in the minority etc etc slag off etc etc but it is making a pronounced difference to pubs. One near me puts the ash trays out at 2315 but drinking at that time of night is for me a thing of the past. It was a law passed in good intentions but became a bad law by withdrawing any sort of choice. The whole thing for me has ruined my match day experience and I now decline all social invitations unless smoking is permitted

I was like you once , could not be asked to go out and not smoke , but after a long illness with out being able to smoke i found out that there is life with out smokes and feel that i wasted a lot of my life and money being a smoker.
Being a smoker is like being a slave to fag dealers!

The Lewis 'Tom Tom' Emmanuel Stand will be the one with its back to the M4. It will decorated with a great big feck arrow, underneath which will be written, This Way to Brentford Football Club. ;)

What BFC need is alternative uses to support non matchdays. Depending on what we get tenure wise, we should look at getting a budget hotel on the site and leasing it off to Holiday Inn/Travel Inn/Lodge. We should have conference facilities to match those along the A4 towards Heathrow which can be aimed at the many business in the Brentford area. If we can get some good catering facilities, we can do the wedding reception thing/Christmas party stuff etc. The Thorne In The Side Quiz nights will be able to provide increased capacity:sorted:

Why should we book hotel for the Big Red Ball, when it can be done at the home of football?

Bars outside the stadium will do little outside matchdays. Brentford is already over pubbed. What would be better, would be beer kiosks dotted around the ground, similar to Twickenham.

We will, more than likely, end up with some sort of ground share, which will only help to increase the revenue.

Basically, we need to bleed as much income out of the new stadium development as we possibly can.
