This is more great news and increasingly the new stadium seems to be something that might actually happen in my lifetime (and I'm only 38).
I genuinely salute all involved for their hard work in getting the project this far.
Quite frankly, whilst I hope we can get back to L1 in the next couple of years, I think performances on the pitch pale into insignificance compared to the boost a new stadium will give Brentford.

it's becoming very outdated and is costing more to keep it running. it's done its job for 104 years, so the old girl has done good. A time for change sadly, but GP will always be 'Home' to Brentford Football Club.

All joking aside, this is a pretty high calibre appointment and I think all concerned should be congratulated on persuading Mr. Power to sign up.
In my excitement about the appointment of the Olympic chappie, I managed to miss the fact that Hoare Lea had also been appointed. They're one of the largest Consulting Engineers in the Country and in my experience are absolute mustard, so Mr. Power's appointment isn't the only good news imo.

there has to be a 'park' in the scheme somewhere, so a small 'memorial' stating this was the home to BFC from 1904 to 2012 would be fitting !!

I know it's good news for the long term of the club, or at least that is what I am told by those I trust. But for me, the sadness of leaving Griffin Park is overshadowing the excitement of moving to Lionel Road. It is good that Power supports Brentford though.

I can't see BFC getting enabling development anywhere near that due to the constraints of the site. Once Barratts have had their slice, Hounslow Council (if the rumour is true) want a new Watermans and Fountain Leisure centre and once we get a stadium, their might be enough land left over for a post box.
I wouldn't get too excited about enabling development until the master plan has been drawn up.

Looking at the architects website, they've done a lot of redevelopment of existing stadia. Of the ones they have designed from scratch, Im guessing we are more likely to end up with the JJB stadium than the one in South Africa, not just due to required capacity but also cost. It suggests that this was one of the main constraints for the JJB.
So, out of interest, who has been to the JJB and what do you think of it? It says on the website something about "The concourse facilities were raised to the first floor to maximise lettable space at ground floor which was constructed shell only." and then it talks about non-matchday requirements being considered. This all sounds like very relevant experience given our similar requirements.

If I remember correctly, didn't we play Wigan at the JJB first game of the season a few years back ? It may have been the season they were promoted into the Championship ? That was my first visit to the JJB anyway.
It's been a while since I was there, but I remember being very impressed with the stadium itself. I suppose it really depends what your expectations are though, I know that some would class it as a lego stadium, slightly lacking in character etc. I think it'd be fair to say that it wouldn't be a stadium that you'd term as being individual.

I was posted to the last game at Layer Road - after the final whistle it sunk in to the regulars that their well-worn matchday routine for all this time had come to an end. Sad times.

First time we were behind the goal and lost to an Arjan De Zeuew header, December 1999 IIRC.
The other three times we were on the side, won 3-1 the following year with three goals in about ten minutes after half time and drew 1-1 in 01/02 on the first day of the season, Ingimarsson scored.
I'm fairly sure we lost there the following year but can't remember exactly.

Went there for the game in which they got promoted to what is now the Championship and was very impressed with the stadium and the views were superb. Was 2-0 WEB btw
