I have been around for 1 or 2 years also watching different iterations of the team over the years but can confirm that despite yesterday this is and will continue to be the best sh*t that I have ever seen....

Its 62 years of watching it for me. There's been a few years in that time when I lapsed for various reasons but not connected to my support of the club. Absolutely agree with you.

Glad it's over now so we can settle down until Jan at least! We've come through these tough times before with the gray and hogan situations and have ended up being better for it....we've got shot of the players who didn't want to be here so I'll be right behind all the lads who want to play for the shirt.

Well I'm not so sure it won't be a tough season but we've got to just support the team regardless and put our faith in people like Phil Giles Rasmus and the coaching staff...

That's the one, me and my brother got on in Lower Feltham and most of the others in Feltham high street and Crown and Sceptre area.
On way home if we missed 237 we'd get on the 90 with Staines chaps and walk home from The Bulldog.

No, I have been supporting The Bees for 66 years now, from the age of five. Goodness, seen some real sh*t at times over the years. One of the worst was when some idiot decided to get
rid of the red and white stripes. We were relegated that season!

I can't wait for us to start climbing the table because it will happen, starting at Villa away.
I'm also really looking forward to Wednesday 01st November for when the MIGHTY BEES will hand out a serious football spanking to the Blue Noses.
All staff in my companies Birmingham office are Blue Noses, and today has been pure hell for me, I will love it when we beat them, love it!!

It was the following season.
Blue and yellow was 60/61. We were relegated in 61/62.... but at least we came straight back up in 62/63.

I think we will soon go on a good run. In both the last two seasons we've done that pretty much straight after transfer uncertainty has been resolved- first when Judge decided to stay (or at least didn't leave for whatever reason) then last season once Hogan had finally left. In both cases the whole team quickly seemed to play more fluidly and more as a team. Probably not coincidentally this also involved Vibe starting to score regularly- I think he's principally a team player and thrives in a unified team all playing for each other and you can see this not only in his performances but also in the way that in those spells goal celebrations are much more inclusive with everyone appearing happy for each other rather than just themselves.
The other factor leading me this positive way is about how we are perceived by others as a club and how it has manifested itself in the Championship. I summarised this here after Wigan away
"The default position for many opponents at this level may well be (1) “it’s Brentford, they’re one of the smaller clubs, decent enough but we don’t need to give them too much respect by worrying about stopping them playing”. In that mode, we are able to play and win as long as we don’t have more than a couple of players having an off day. The confidence we get from that gives some momentum and so we put together a winning run which lasts until we meet an opponent that sees that (2) “hmm, despite only being Brentford, they’ve just won 5 in a row and we really need to get something from this game so probably ought to look to stop them playing before we go up a gear”. At which point we have no real response other than for midfield to be pushed back and for the team to pass the ball around without having any realistic attacking intent. Then we go on a losing streak. Until mindset (1) starts to reappear in opponents. And repeat."
This season we and several informed pundits, opposition managers and fans rated us as prospects from the start- we'd recruited well and played incisive attacking football. So we played matches in the second mode- opponents looking to us as tough opponents they'd need to neutralise by whatever means available rather than just to play in their own natural way. I don't think Smith expected them to give us that respect so early and so he made team selections which were not appropriate to how opponents actually set out- as can be seen from the overly defensive midfield in our game at the Blades.
After the high profile loss of players and our meagre points haul so far, I think there's a good chance opponents are going to drop that guard.
The real test will be how we react once opponents start to give us respect again after our imminent good run.

I'm with you 1955, rode bike down the Great West Road used to leave the bike in the garden of the house on the corner of Brook Rd and Clifdon Rd about 3 old pennies a time. They had wooden rails to put the bikes against and used to get a fair few bikes there

I'm 78 and been going to Griffin Park about 72 years. Bus down Boston Road,Hanwell to Half Acre. Hope I last till the new ground is built.

Absolutely the same; first game at Easter 1959; cycle down Springwell Road to the junction with the GWR at Parklands Court, Heston, down the GWR and parked the bike at the same house; loads and loads of bikes. On the way would discuss with Dad whether Jim or George would score first . . . . . . . . . .; my joint equal first heros.
But if we talk about terrible times the low point just has to be Mike Everitt's team in February and March 1974; the Webb/Woon strike force and the most depressing games ever to watch.

It was still three old pence when I used to leave my bike there 66-70. Bit of a whippersnapper compared with previous posters as I first came to GP in 65.

I am all for getting behind the players but let's not forgot there is very rarely loyalty in football, the boys there are in contract and playing for their careers not for the shirt. We have seen time and time again players who we treated well and they declared their love only to bugger off a short while later when they were offered a double or more pay packet.
I get behind them while they are here for sure but under no illusions, players generally play better when they are loved & supported by the fans.

Great memories for me too.Always telling my mates every time I walk past that garden ( looks so smaller nowadays) that's where me and my Dad use to park our bikes after cycling from Yeading and pay a thruppeny bit..... Don't ever remember ever locking the bike up !!! Then walking through the turnstiles at the Brook End. The toilets in front of you ...up some steps,the tea bar on the left, the ash cinders on the ground and then up the hill of steps to bring you out on the corner flag between today's New Road and the Wendy House. Are there any others out there with similar memories?

Absolutely. When I think of that walk it is always of a floodlit game and getting the first sight of the pitch as you got to the top of the climb. Terrific.

I remember the Tom Higginson era, I'm pretty sure he worked in the butchers at Bush Corner during the week. Also Chick Brodie, Alan Hawley, Pete Gelson etc they all stayed and played week in week out year in year out. If only modern players had their loyalty.
