Opening ceremony?

Apologies if this has been done before - but I haven't seen it.

Who could we get to be the main focus of the opening ceremony?

Could we get the Queen???

Is that realistic?

But for god's sake: No B*ris Johnson!

There'll be a whole sequence of events due to the requirements of the safety certificate, with the final one being a game against a well-supported club who can attract a lot of interest, probably from another European league, so a near-capacity crowd can be tested. I'd guess this will be like an "opening ceremony" with the fans being the main focus, rather than any attention-craving individual.

Prince William might be a possibility. President of the FA.

Your post highlights the problem. Who would be universally welcome in this age of polarised opinions and intolerance of others' views. I would be happy with Mr Benham or Mr Gilham. This is about us and our future - no celebrity endorsements required.

The Queen is hardly a ‘celebrity’ ffs.

I’m no royalist, but I can’t see anyone objecting to HM.

She has, I believe, been at openings of other league grounds - Arsenal maybe?

Of course you are right about HM but why? Who are we doing this for? I am sure others will disagree with me so I'll be interested to hear their views.

For any ceremonial entrance, I don't think you can beat (pardon the pun) a large troupe of Dhol Drummers. I'm sure there must be some locally.

Why is there a discussion? Kurt had it all sorted before he left, he booked up Mohamed Al-Fayed to do the speaking, an oompah band will play Hey Jude accompanied by the new drummer in the West Stand and the rest of us will be happily using our clappers and waving the flags left on our wonderfully coloured seats. Paul Brooker and Martin Rowlands will give a half time ball skills demonstration. Going to be magical.

The guys who first started us on our journey to LR would seem the most appropriate on the assumption that MB does not want to.

As long as you stump up her usual appearance fee, together with associated costs ( security & transport, slap-up meal, flowers & wet paint), then she’ll be there! Bung her a bit extra and she might even get the Stadium Opening Parachute out of mothballs. She’d probably only stay until half time though. That allows her to do another couple of gigs before dinner.

MB would be the most popular and would create the biggest and most enthusiastic response, just as long as he doesn't arrive by bringing one of his yachts up the Thames?
