Orient Match Report

Orient Match Report

I'm a little bit baffled to be honest. Was there a special section for people who thinks everything was sh*t tonight because I thought I heard some pretty good and encouraging support from three sides of the ground up until the penalty. I din't get a sense from anyone around me that everyone thought we were playing awfully.

Eddie Hearn has us down as dominating the game.

Orient Match Report

Lee- Wasn't his fault for the goals and almost saved the penalty.
Logan- What was he doing tugging him down like that?! But also why would rosler put him up against Mooney a player much bigger than him, so he didnt really have much chance in winning any headers. Poor game from him.
Dean- Was okay but the penalty was partially his fault and those diagonal balls he plays dont work most of the time. Still one of my favourite players though.
Taylor- Our best defender last night. Looks a good signing. We need to extend his loan.
Craig- Didn't do much. Should of scored, but some how missed from 2 yards.
McCormack- We need him to play the whole game. Our most important player in my opinion. Looked fine in the first half.
Diagouraga- One of our only players that done themselves proud. Should start on Sunday.
Forshaw- WHY IS HE STILL IN LEAGUE ONE?! Far too good for this league! Our Best player by far! We'll be lucky not to lose him in January in my opinion!
Fillo- Again like Craig, didn't really notice him, that being said the service he got was rubbish
Grigg- Can't win a header and lacks pace, however there must be more to his game if he scored 20 goals last season! Still waiting for him to impress and prove to me that he's a good signing
Donaldson- Really dont know why he's getting so much stick. Was our 2nd best player, behind Forshaw. Looked like the only player that would score and worked his socks off.

SUBS:
Dallas- Looked like he can beat a man and has pace. Should always be on our bench atleast. Good impact sub.
Trotta- looked lazy and didn't look bothered at all. Still cant win a header.
Teixeira- Not going to judge him on that cameo as Rosler said he was not used right.

FARID MUST START SATURDAY!

What is all this about strikers 'not winning a header all game' - I think people underestimate how difficult it is to out jump a defender while running backwards and having them on your shoulders! Grigg, Trotta and even Donaldson are not target men and as such do not have the ability to win every long ball pumped into them from Lee, Logan, Dean, Taylor and Craig. They all want ball into feet, you don't just hold ball up with your head. If we want to play that style then fine but needs a target man and even ten they won't win every header. For a professional centre-back in League 1 they are obviously going to have he ability to out jump a much smaller striker when they have the chance to run and jump and watch the ball all the way plus use them to jump. Our strikers want balls in the air only when they are in space or from a cross so they can finish, not everytime the ball comes anywhere near them.

Also, it appears that running socks off means you are unable to be criticised for a poor performance. Donaldson was awful, he lost the ball on numerous occasions, failed to pick hardly any passes, missed 2/3 good chances for headers and decided to try speculative (weak) long range shots at every opportunity when there were others better place.

Forshaw was best player but even he let himself down with awful set piece delivery .

Need a win badly on Sunday....I actually think we will get one. Hopefully last night was kick up backside required.

Well I dont understand why we didnt bring in a left back on loan instead of Taylor, that was the area that needed cover. We have now disrupted the centre back pairing as well and look the worst we have looked in a long time.

Because we had Barron and Craig who can both play at left back.....and Logan actually, in my opinion another left back would have been a waste of a loan signing.

Orient Match Report

We looked so unbalanced, the left side seemed to be a case of square pegs in round holes. There is a definitely a lack of cutting edge in the side, which considering the players we have at our disposal is baffling.

Lack of cutting edge is due to our strikers playing either wide left/right....

Orient Match Report

Sorry have not read the whole thread, but watched the game on TV, in between running back and forth to the loo, whilst suffering from a severe bout of gastric flu. From my view point I thought we were the better of two fairly average teams until the penalty. Despite the stats saying we had more attempts and efforts on target, we really didn't force a half decent save from their keeper.

No complaints with the penalty, the only surprise to me that he waited so long to punish the blatant amount of shirt pulling that was going on in both boxes. After the penalty there was only one winner for me as Orient always looked dangerous when they attacked.

Hugely disappointing and they way things are panning out we will be lucky to finish in the top half this season. For me the jury is still out on Grigg and Filo and I hope we don't get turned over by the tribunal for the fee. To me it has Weston written all over it again. A lot of money for very little. As for the Liverpool youngster I get the feeling he will be too lightweight for the cut and thrust of League 1. Hope to be proved wrong on all accounts, but so far we are really struggling, with only three wins since we got out of jail against Pompey last season.

Orient Match Report

Playing a make shift left back and then playing with no proper width on the left hand side was also baffling. And making Clayton run into the channels is not what I mean by width.

It offered nothing going forward and whenever the ball dropped loose into that area the Orient right back and winger had acres of space to run at Craig. To be fair he coped pretty well, but it was last ditch stuff and lucky they didnt make more from it.

Orient Match Report

We don't possess any width on the left hand side. Bidwell will really help but ironically the only natural left footer we have who could play in front of him is Barron.

That might not be too daft an diea away from home but at Griffin Park - no way.

Despite the influx of loanees, some good others not so, we still haven't been able to fill the McAleney gap and I see no real answer until January.

We have the following loanees

Taylor - 1 month
Saville - Jan
Nugent - Jan
Texeira - Jan
Trotta - Jan
Filo - Season long

Maybe we can mutually end Nugent's loan and who knows what will happen to Taylor but I would be surprised if we manage to get that pacy wideman this side of Christmas. Shame as that would aid the squad immeasurably.

I thought Teixeira could play on the left of a front three, aswell as well as centrally?

Dallas is a wide player, he could play on the left, couldn't he? It's all the rage to have your wide players cut inside.

Back end of last season he looked lost when he started left side of midfield, struggling which game it was but was anonymous and even after being swapped over was taken off.

Carlisle A started left looked better 2nd half when switched to right in a very poor game

Think he needs to establish himself on the preferred right berth at the moment. He was superb pre season and showed real potential, seems to have lost a lot of condifence post the Derby debacle. Hope he can find his mojo again and really challenge for a place this season as I believe the basic talent is there.

Agree, maybe we expected too much after a couple of excellent performances when used sparingly last year - he was my man of the match in the Bradford cup replay and excellent when he came on as sub a few weeks later. Uwe said he was one for the future so guess we just hope he develops into the quality wide player he's shown the potential he could be.

Haven't seen anything that he can offer us IMHO.

because hes played out of position too often or is brought on when we are chasing a game and lumping the ball forward, which doesn't help his game,as against orient

It's difficult for a player like Dallas to get any momentum to really show what he can do. Has he even played back to back games? I also seem to remember him playing left side of midfield for his previous club in some of the clips going round when we signed him. Maybe mistaken on that though. Players are in and out of the team so often it's no wonder we're not playing like a team.

No argument with anything apart from the fact he is a right sided forward

Fair point, not saying he can't offer anything, just saying I haven't seen anything so far

Whenever he came on last season he showed exactly what we can expect of him when played in his right position, great potential.
