Orient match reports

Not sure if you were at the game tonight, but for 5 mins solid the away terrace chanted 'Uwe Rosler's barmy army' and were fully supportive of him throughout tonight's the game.

Once again, the PC Brigade minority tarnish the majority of fans who are fully behind Rosler

i'm not in his barmy army.

Orient match reports

Normal suspects with usual complaints following a defeat, watching the game on the box without sound was an interesting exercise and put a different perspective on the performance

We played some decent football but did not take our chances then were hit with an offside sucker goal such things happen, just look at Chelsea in the champions league.

Hayes was played behind Clayton his role being to create, not overly impressed however with 3 forwards it is not unreasonable to expect some rotation would expect Farid and Clayton to start next game and receive their share of complaints for missing chances

Didn't see much wrong with Craig tonight, he was out muscled from time to time but so was Harlee who seemingly is spared criticism

We have a young team playing some decent football, something Mr Scott would not recognise, the style at present is light years ahead of the dross we have been served up in the past and when it works is a delight. Rosler has assembled a decent squad of players who will get better. Yes there is still lots of work to be done but some of the comments on here are, in my opinion, considerably OTT

Usually I agree with most of what you write, however, despite the fact that we played well in the first half we did not score when we were on top. The second half was very poor, Graig is very vulnerable when the ball goes over the top, how is he better Leon Legg?. Hayes is very unfit and we should have started with Ali. Why wait until 80 minutes to make a sub, At the end of the day we just not ruthless enough on or off the pitch and it will cost us.

Orient match reports

Early second half, Forrester on the left wing dribbles past his marker, passes to Donaldson who feeds a lovey ball back to Harry who puts in a great ball for Hayes 5 yards out

Orient match reports

Just waiting for someone to have a go at Douglas!!
Bees played well tonight but did not get what they deserved. It happens.
As always an over reaction from those phelps always looking to find fault. Do they forget 2 teams play??

Orient match reports

I so want to be patient with this team and Uwe but looking at the results I see no different than the last x amount of years if you want success you need to score and to score you need a top striker and I don't think we have one.........its Mathews wallet time or another league one campaign

Orient match reports

Hayes played well!!!!!.........................I sat at home and had the benifit of god knows how many cameras,HD and slow motion and i can tell you he was CRAP...........:mad1::mad1:,thought the surport was excllent from the bees fans though..they didnt stop singing...Rowlands is a w£@%er......:D:D

Orient match reports

Who said German's don't have a sense of humour... 'Hayes was excellent' - trouble is Uwe I'm not laughing because you're managing my team and with comments like that you obviously don't have a clue...
He was responding to the question 'Do you regret playing Hayes tonight?'
I thought his answer was perfect response to protect his player live on tv. If he had just said it in his general summary of the match, then it would have been obviously wrong. I thought it was good man management.

Orient match reports

Very hard result to stomach, Orient are a poor side and if we are to maintain a challenge we really need to start putting games like this to bed early on, when we had not scored after 30 mins of near total dominance you started to get the horrible feeling we never would get the goal and towards the end it looked like we had run out of ideas. Our younger players (Logan,Forshaw,Forrester) clearly have ability and bags of potential but at the moment lack a little bit of know-how when things arent going our way, but this will come given time. Uwe rightly deserved credit last week for the timings of his sub's but his decision to only give Farid ten mins at the end was a joke Hayes was looking spent about 20mins beforehand. Overall I don't think there is too much wrong, we will smash a good few teams 3 or 4 nil over the season but we also need to find a way to win by the odd goal.

Orient match reports

Support was excellent. As for the game, it was always gonna happen.. We ripped them to shreds, couldn't score then they score an undoubtedly offside goal. Just wasn't our night.

:imwith:

The worrying aspect is that we couldn't have asked for a kinder fixture list for our opening 6 games and we should have a lot more points in the bank

Orient match reports

we played well. no hoof ball. what most of us wanted to see. we just couldn't score. again.

PS as i said when he signed, Hayes isn't an out and out striker - what we uses to call an inside forward.

Orient match reports

orient have one bloody shot on target and guess what? they score. bees have 99% of game and cant bloody score-joke!

Orient match reports

We were totaly dominant, i have seen this ever time i been to brentford this season, three times.

I think this is possibly the best passing team i have seen at brentford for some time?, we have some excellant players in the likes of, dean, bidwell forrester, and forshaw. Once this team gels we will win alot more games in this league than lose! thats a fact.

Paul hayes, i thought he was ok tonight, he is our most intelligent player and when he is fit he will be good, he will not score 30 goals but he was brought here to be the playmaker for farid and clayton. If you know anything about football you will know that you have to play it to be match fit, i would start hayes the next three games, he will then repay Uwe i am sure once 100%.

Uwe is not going to say Paul hayes was useless on the Tele and i would be fuming if he did, do you not think he knows that he was a little off pace?????

We have 8 points and in my vue look very dangroues, teams do not want to play us.

One thing i will say is criag better start performing or he will lose he posotion.

We have some class acts in this team, 8 points and still some money to spend in Jan or a loanee.

My glaas is very much half full

Orient match reports

Teams don't want to play us??? Why not we usually gift them at least two opportunities every game to score and they often do...

Orient match reports

Enjoyed the game and thought it was a decent performance especially by Foreshaw, Forrester, and Bidwell three real footballers in my opinion.
But... UR's tactics and team selection remain a mystery and the decision to acquire the services of Hayes and Craig are very questionable.
It's mid table obscurity this season though - the playing style and the players reaction to the constant UR tweaking will ultimately cost the Manager his job.

Orient match reports

We hadnt played for 5 days and wont play Bournemouth for another 5 days and like you say its September

Hate to say it but we are going to finish someone between 8th and about 14th, we will win the odd game impressively to keep the Rosler apologists happy and lose a number of games with performances like tonight and the same people will say we played well and deserved better and everything is fine.

I dont see how anyone can look at this side under Rosler and think its suddenly going to start winning much more consistently than about the 2 games in every 6 as currently.

sounds about right IF we keep rosler........but the mimimum requirement this season is play offs.....if we're knowhere near the top 6 by end of oct then he's gone.....no doubt about that, mb wont settle for anything less ;)

Agree. You don't slag off your players on TV, you do it in the dressing room and on the training pitch. Hayes was making his FIRST start and Uwe, as manager, is paid to know whether Hayes has the type of personality that responds more to criticism or encouragement. Presumably the latter. I'm not sure I'd respond totally positively if my boss went on TV and said I was rubbish.
This reaction is more about being mugged by a poor side (containing an international standard **** who wins man-of-the-match because he's the only player SKY have ever heard of!) than our performance.

Orient match reports

Hard to complain about the performance - 13 shots on target must be the most in a long time (though TBH only a couple really tested their keeper) - reminded me (in reverse) of us winning at MK 2 years ago. Most of the team played well - still a few doubts about Craig and Hayes doesn't look match fit (but needs to play to improve that). But if we're going to challenge for play-offs, we need to turn good performances into goals.

Another league 1 campaign if needs be.MB has already a more than generous budget in place,i dont want him piling in more, way beyond our means,if theres enough in the budget to get one without exceeding budgets and wage limits then fine, bit ot will be hard to find better than what we got

Orient match reports

I've been lucky enough to see 5 games and this one on the box, I have been mighty frustrated with our performances bar the Crewe game, we are pretty at times but also pretty toothless, we have had a really good set of fixtures but a crap return of points.
Like Roy Walker used to say "It's good but it's not right", there is something that doesn't work for us, it's all a bit sticky at times with no real end product.

Orient match reports

Watched it on Sky and, the longer the game went on, I could guess what the result would be. The fact that Orient's winning goal had strong hints of offside and Sky adding insult to injury by making Rowland M-O-M, just added to feeling the need to throw my toys out of the pram.

Whether playing home or away, put up two banks of four against the Bees and, at least, you will probably not be beaten. Hit them on the break when everybody is getting frustrated and our opoonents will nick it. Just ask Yeovil Town how they set out their stool at home to the Bees in each of the last three seasons.

I was pleased with the performance of nearly every Brentford player, Very little hoofball other than Simon Moore thumping high balls to the front line. Why not play it from the back and try to move our opponents higher up the pitch?

Forrester, Forshaw, Douglas (far better than at Walsall) and Dave played the ball around well but, nearly always, that was with those two banks of four still to break down. Our back four held Lisbe and Symes at bay upon rare Orient attacks until their sub (Grunt) came on a made a difference. Hayes needs games and hopeful won't view his first start with any great satisfaction. Donaldson was the enigma that he always appears to be. He's certainly no fox in the box.

Sadly, we rarely got behind the Orient rearguard and Donaldson failed to convert two first half chances when he did get behind them. For me, we lacked width. When Logan and Bidwell got forward, we looked like making a breakthrough, but that did not happen often enough.

What was worrying was the lack of any attempt to change matters through clever use of the substitutes bench. All three substitions were like for like. The tactics weren't working before Uwe made his changes and did not after. Can't Fredericks provide something different?

And so we move on. Bomo away next - another ground where the Bees have performed quite poorly last time out. Will it be different this time around? :banghead: :banghead:

Orient match reports

So frustrating, we have been there many times already this season, and we got out of jail on saturday did'nt we? We were toothless with no end product. Except for Forrester we were not incisive enough from midfield. Happy to get rid of the tippy tappy football for results please, Slade said as much after the game when he said it was only the 3 points he was interested in. No point in dominating games and coming away empty handed. If we have the POs in mind something needs to change NOW, its not working.........

Orient match reports

Really disapointing result however I was encouraged by what I saw, apart from the finishing I thought we were good. Some of our play was outstanding and we pretty much dominated with a very young team. I am pretty confident the results will start to come.

The only issue I have with Uwe is his constant changing of the team, it just does not help consistancy and the sooner he realises it the better. No player needs a rest a month into the season!!

In regards to Hayes and Craig yes they were both pretty poor last night but they are both proven at this level and higher. Once they settle in i am sure they will be fine, although Craig may have to move to LB when Bidwell returns to Everton.

Orient match reports

Frustrating game, it just wasn't our night. These are often the type of games that are more frustrating and annoying then any others, if we'd got beat 4-0 and been woeful you can just write it off and say "we were s**t let's just forget about it and move on". But when you play so well for large spells and dominate like we did and come away with nothing to show for it lingers on the mind after thinking "how on earth did we lost that game?!" I said to my mate at half time that if we didn't turn this dominance into goals you just knew they'd go and score a late, undeserved winner and that's exactly what they did. However I do feel confident that we are progressing and the signs are promising. The seeds of a top side have been planted but we have to be patient but I'm convinced we are in a far better position than 2 or 3 years ago under Scott in this division where the football was dire and we were going nowhere. Some of our football and posession was superb last night but just felt we got cold feet in the final third where it just didn't click. Too often we lacked that killer final ball, bit of skill or movement to create an opening and allow us to get in behind. I actually thought Hayes did ok and think he's a decent football just don't think he has the mobility or sharpness anymore to score regularly. I cannot only assume Rosler felt that Hayes can drop off more when we don't have the ball and look to be the supplier to Donaldson whereas him and Farid both look to get in behind. It might be a system we use quite regularly away from home. Donaldson is a confidence striker and you just wish he could get an early goal as it would lift him, there often seems to be games where if he misses two or three chances early on his confidence slowly decreases and he starts to doubt his ability to score. Forshaw is a class act and started to wonder how on earth we got him and I think finally we're starting to see the best of Forrester although where his best position lies I'm still not totally sure. Some criticism of Craig, I actually thought that was his best game for us but feel for someone of his size he doesn't dominate as he should and his lack of pace will be exposed. Legge is limited but at least will head the ball and run through a brick wall so to speak for the side. Minor tweaks needed but nothing drastic, we're a far better side than Orient but these games happen every season where the better team loses. I'll start looking at the league table in October once we've started playing a few of the heavy hitters in the division that's when we'll be able to judge just where we are.

Orient match reports

The only stat that matters is we lost one nil.none of the strikers will score more than 12 goals this season and that will be our downfall, they all seem to alike and none of them are goal poachers.yes we played pretty football but what's the point if you don't create anything.

The worrying thing is the manager, the owner and lots of fans seem satisfied that we played well.

Teams going anywhere this season will win at bury, walsall and orient

Orient match reports

Like i said before. Compare the team to Coppells team player for player. No comparrison really.

Please do not worry on my account that I am satisfied with how we played. Unbelievable over-reaction by the usual suspects. The crazy over-expectation on this board is staggering. A few games in and 'its sack the manager' time and 'this load of players are useless get rid of them and get another load in'. Good performance, bad result, generally unlucky thats football. I am so sad that the hate Uwe lot lie quiet until the first setback and then come out baying for blood.

Like Roy Walker used to say "It's good but it's not right", there is something that doesn't work for us, it's all a bit sticky at times with no real end product.

IMO we just need to up the tempo a bit and maybe on occasion be a bit more direct. sometimes we try to be too pretty when a hoof into the box is needed, and vice versa. our best chances come on the all too rare times we really run at the oppo defence, if we give them a chance to get men between the ball and goal thats when we struggle to create really clear cut chances. maybe its because a few players are struggling to learn this more technical approach, let alone put it into practice at a decent enough speed. its all the more frustrating because we are so close to being a really good team. uwe has brought in virtually a whole new squad, look at the quality of the starting XI now compared to the last team scott (who really took the piss on tv last night the ****) put out and i think his tactics will work given a bit more time.

i'd take dave out of the line up tuesday, replace him with o'connor and push douglas further up and also bring farid back instead of hayes.

Orient match reports

different team, different manager same s...t result.the support deserved the points.
most games at the moment seem to hinge on Roslers substitutions.some very patchy decisions.maybe for the jpt games when we're only charging £5 we can ,via the forum, collectively pick the team to play Crawley.come on MB you're a gambling man, whats the odds?

Orient match reports

Result aside, I've seen many L1 games on TV and couldn't help think that the football we played last night was far and above the best and I would hope that neutrals would think the same I'm sure they would compare what was on view last night with say the crap on display on Sunday particularly the Crawley-Pompey game dispite the goals. Unfortunately people could well be saying we are the Arsenal on the lower leagues

Orient match reports

Like i said before. Compare the team to Coppells team player for player. No comparrison really.

What is the relevance of this? Is this when we had a centre-back that cost us £750K? Of course there is no comparison but that was over 10 years ago, football has changed since then.

Webb's team was better then this lots...but its the here and now that is important. a few years ago we were heading for the conference and we were being crippled with a £9m debt. I am quite pleased of were we are at the moment.

Bidwell, Forshaw, Forrester, Dean, Moore, Logan are all excellent propects, when did we have a group of youngsters like that?

Your quite right Blunstone. You sound as old as I am, and in our days Hayes would be the brains behind our attacks. A sort of Jimmy Bloomfield clone if you like, or Johnny Haynes of Fulham.

Orient match reports

Like i said before. Compare the team to Coppells team player for player. No comparrison really.

Just for fun:

Smith - Moore Definitely Smith, but Moore not a weak link at the moment

Ijah - Bidwell Defintiely Bidwell
O'Connor - Logan Depends what you're after, Kev for defending, Logan for attacking.
Powell - Craig Powell
Ivar - Dean Ivar, but Dean is looking like he'll be one hell of a player in a few years

Evans - Douglas Douglas has more 'pedigree' but lacks Evo's goals.
Sidwell - Dave Sidwell
Rowlands - Forshaw Rowlands for the goals, but in truth maybe Forshaw and Sidwell is a fairer comaprison, I'm comparing the role in last night's team versus Coppell's
Hunt - Forrester Hunt, but a lot to be excited about with Forrester

Owusu - Donaldson Owusu
Burgess - Hayes Burgess was still on his way up, Hayes is on his way down, but simialr players imo

Clearly Coppell's team is better, but the main difference is that most of Coppell's team were closer to their peak when with us, whereas a lot of the current team are either past their peak (Craig, Douglas, Hayes) or work-in-progress (Moore, Dean, Logan, Forshaw, Forrester) and at least at the moment there's a lot more goals in Coppell's team, and from more positions.

You're naive if you think Uwe or MB will be happy, but I don't ever want our dirty linen washed in public again so no problem at this early stage with a positive front when a mic is shoved under your nose immediately after the game. From a fans perspective, we all see it differently, I thin k we're on the right track albeit a bit toothless but I'd far rather watch the type of football played by us tonight than that I've endured since possibly Coppell was in charge. Don't bother telling me the rules have changed, it took Leeds three years to get out of this division, Southampton two and Sheff Utd are in their second so as long as I can see us making progress I'm happy enough for now.

Good sensible comments. Many a player over the years have'nt had the best one/two games but have then come good, I'm sure with his pedigree that Hayes will be fine once he's up to speed.

Do we really have as big a budget as Andy Scott perpetuated? I thought it was somewhere in the middle but there seems to be a perception we are splashing the cash. I would say our wage bill isn't as far away from Orient's seeing as they have Lisbie, Cook and Rowlands on their books. They won't be on peanuts

I thought as much hence why Rosler had to be shrewd with his signings and perhaps accomodate players he had inherited from Scott tenure that he may not have wanted for himself
