Orient match reports

There is always an element of kidology most fans miss with these statements. Martin Allen used that to great effect last season but his budget was roughly on par with ours.

Listen, I'm sure you're not sticking up for Scott but I wanted to dismiss this falsehood that somehow Scott didn't have the resources that Uwe had. I can assure you that they were both given the same budgets.

Ok Thanks.

Orient match reports

You questioned the size of the budget. You got a reply. Its still on par with AS's fateful season. Now you question whether we have a budget that means we're one of the highest spenders? Let's just say we have a competitive budget which could, possibly should, mean we have a bloody good chance of the Play Offs.

how many times does it have to be said

Orient match reports

King Bee,

Please clarify for me, are you saying that URs' budget this season is the same as AS had in his last season?

Yes. 100%. The same.

In terms of comps, I believe it is a top ten budget and about 18-20% higher than Leyton's despite best efforts at claiming their budget's miniscule by comparison.

Orient match reports

The only stat that matters is we lost one nil.none of the strikers will score more than 12 goals this season and that will be our downfall, they all seem to alike and none of them are goal poachers.yes we played pretty football but what's the point if you don't create anything.

The worrying thing is the manager, the owner and lots of fans seem satisfied that we played well.

Teams going anywhere this season will win at bury, walsall and orient

and thats the main trouble, a lot of our fans are quite happy with mid table obscurity....no wonder rosler feels that finishing 8th would be ok......im sorry but its the play offs as a minimum, a lot of us expected a hell of a lot more this season, a lot 'kin more....with the budget and players at our disposal we really should be going for those top 2 positions....if yeovil, tranmere etc are up there it really shows how weak this division is this season....its their for the taking but i just cant see us doing it unless things change :(

more this season ? we are 6 games in

Orient match reports

Sorry no chance, clubs are now saying how large a budget we have, that was never mention under Scott. And by the way I'm not sticking up for Scott.
We can't have a large budget - we're not allowed to. There are rules in place now that say a club is only allowed to spend a certain percentage (I forget what the percentage is) of their income on their player budgets. So even if Mr Benham wanted to say "Here you are lads. Here's £100 million. Get the best players you can in", he couldn't. It's not allowed anymore :(. Which is great in a way because it means clubs have to live within their means, but bad in another because it means the big clubs (e.g. Sheffield United) with an income 3 X the size of ours, are allowed 3 X our budget which makes competing a bit awkward .

But its the 6 games we have played, if it was Sheff United, Notts County, Swindon etc, you may be happy with 8 points, but Bury, Yeovil, Walsall, Crewe, Colchester & Orient you would be looking at 14 points. Thats the worrying bit, also the chances per goals ratio isnt very good either.

Nothing is won or lost in September.
We didn't buy any galacticos in the summer. We got a Charlton cast off, a potential goalscorer from Scottish 2nd
division, a game, experienced defender from Millwall and two promising kids with less than 20 league games between them from Premiership clubs.
How much more were you expecting? After 5 games we were second leading goal scorers, most chances created and sat in 7th position. We all know we got mugged last
night by an offside goal and Hayes should have been replaced earlier but hardly time to start panicking yet

who knows where the teams we have played are going to finish at the end of the season, even if it at the bottom we have all season to go up.nobody stands out in this division either so i dont know how youve categorised teams already ?
whats worrying ? are you seriously taking notice of the league table already,6 games in ?
we are playing much better football, best for some years, which people were screaming out for,if i recall rightly you were wanting to be entertained more with football, correct me if im wrong.
Our chances per game ratio has rocketed which is only a good thing and proof we are improving, the only current problem is we are not converting these chances.so it seems to me we are heading in the right direction,we arent far off
but you keep finding problems

Orient match reports

Frustrating as we're getting close to being a very good side. Claytons first touch was dreadful at times tonight and I'm starting to lose patience with him. If a striker needed to be dropped tonight it was him not Farid, think hes been excellent in the games I've seen him so far. Hayes was dreadful, early days but no idea why we've signed him, lacks pace and doesn't seem to be a goalscorer either. Would take Alexander over him all day. Still abit of work to be done at the back but need another front man desperatly.

Yes powder puff donaldson keeps fluffing his finishing and he is not good enough. Craig is a dud aswell.

Orient match reports

Someone please reassure me that Hayes isn't as crap as I am starting to think he is. We have been tracking him for a long time?????????????

Hayes will come good - he has a lot of guile and is calm in the box unlike powderpuff boy

Nothing to do with the league table, its the sides we have played, just look at last season and where they finished, Crewe were newly promoted through the play offs, Walsall, Orient, Bury, Yeovil all came in the bottom 8. And none of them has spend loads of money, you believe things will come together, where I think will win some lose some and come 8th or 9th, and goalscoring being our problem again. Hope your right, but lets wait and see.

No only me finding problems, admit at the moment most people are giving the management a chance, but there is a growing tread that are worried, this season will end as last. Which will be very disapointing. Your also right, about the football, it is more entertaining until the last third which is still a major problem and will cost us unless we improve. We still have not come from behind to win a game under Uwe, which also worries me greatly. To me that shows we haven't got a plan B when plan A doesnt work. We differ on our view but lets hope we managed to make the top 6.

Certainly worrying, but after 6 games still too early to tell. Rosler deserves to be given 10 games to prove himself. Upside this season that we are creating a lot more chances. Downside if the strikers turn out to be too useless to convert them. 100% Rosler's team now, no excuses can be made if we don't settle into a top 6 position.

With the players we have I would have thought that it was crying out for a 4.4.2. formation. The diamond is really quite a negative set up. Would love to see two wide men with players moving into the box and creating a bit of havoc, wonder if it has crossed Uwe's mind?

I guess so otherwise he wouldnt have brought in Dallas and Fredericks

Can't agree that the diamond is negative-look at the chances we have been creating. It has the advantage of being novel at this level and I suspect that most teams will find it hard to play against.

no panic.....just dissapointed with the start we've had....im hoping he can put it right......hoping but im not overly optimistic......seen enough in 13months to see tactically he aint got whats needed to get us out of this division.....hope im wrong but i bet im right

Tactically we are creating shedloads of chances:sorted:. Last season Uwe was trying to introduce a new style with square pegs in round holes and he got within 6 points of a playoff despite massive challenges. The square pegs have gone.:) We are playing some really good stuff now. OK, we aren't putting the chances away at the mo but you can't fault the management for that. What do you expect Uwe to do if a chance is fluffed? As the team settles, we will become even stronger and we will come good for sure. Forty games is a marathon and I don't even bother with league tables til November. I'd be interested to know what you think is required tactically to get us out of this division as I can see it slotting nicely into place. IMO we are playing the best football I can remember for years.

Orient match reports

I don't understand these complaints on here about "negativity." We played an inferior side, we bossed them and we lost 'cos we couldn't find the back of the net. And this is a pattern that has repeated since last season. We have played 6 league games, none of them against top sides, unless you believe Yeovil will maintain their current form for the rest of the season, and we have 8 points and are comfortably mid-table. It is also clear that, as with last season, we are struggling to find the back of the net. Given all that, why shouldn't Brentford supporters raise issues with our performance on here? It's called criticism and it can be constructive.
One of the happy bunch posted something about hate shown toward Uwe. Have you lot actually read the posts on this thread? People are nearly all very understanding and generous toward Uwe. We're past post #270 and I've read maybe two or three that actually call for him to go.
This is a forum, a discussion board. If you can't respond to people disagreeing with you without characterising them as if they were poison, then you should go elsewhere.

And Mr. Pipe, be careful, it may be that the usual suspects might be right. I recall a month before Andy Scott's sacking, being characterised as one of "the usual suspects" for wanting him out.
I'm not for removing Uwe, but I remain non-plussed. He may just turn out to be an ordinary manager, not bad, but not good enough either. Which is kind of what we are like right now as a football side. At least, that's what the results say.

WTF are you ranting about?

Orient match reports

OK, we aren't putting the chances away at the mo but you can't fault the management for that.

They are his signings though.

Strikers can make or break a manager. Look how popular Scotty was when we had Rhodes, Clarke and Charlie Mac knocking them in for fun.

Orient match reports

To get out of this Division properly, we've seen it before, with our play off attempts is you make your mark early on, most of the top 4-5 congregate at the top early October and stay there. Last season at Christmas the top 5 were sorted apart from MK having a wobble mid March nobody made a dent in the top 5 and the top 3 romped away in a procession and it was a race for 6th between 4 teams down the straight.

I'm all for the team settling and blending, its sensible, but its foolish to take your eye off points even this early. The division does not have a Charlton, Sheff W in it, so the top 2 places are up for grabs. Sheff U seems obvious because of the budget and wages but I'd fancy our chances if we play an more attacking game early on rather than feeling our way in, we have the players. :sorted:

What I'd like to see is a greater intensity in the first 20 minutes, we start slowly, in 7 league and cup games we have scored in the first half just once in these games (admittedly 3 goals against Crewe) but the stats tell a tale. If you look at the top sides in this division, they make their mark by scoring early and control games, we controlled all the games I've seen this season, but only won 2 out of 7.

I'm convinced most of League 1 play a different game against the top teams purely out of fear and hang on in to see what they can get, see Bury, Orient, etc, but you get the feeling that unless we start been ruthless, we'll get a reputation of looking pretty and easy on the eye but fragile! The games dry up in Nov and Dec as winter bites, the games are thick and fast from now to the end of October, it's time to make a mark now not wait till the spring for the charge of the light brigade towards 6th and the last spot. Bournemouth then Oldham over the next 8 days, the target should be 4 points at the least :)

It's irrelevant tho isn't it. Who you get points against? How do you know we won't make up for lost points by beating Swindon, Sheff Utd etc. Every game i go to i never expect but I go hoping for three points Because you just dont know in football. Look at the finale of the premier league last seeaon. Man city fans in the 90th minute probably f'ing and blinding that they have thrown away the title and united fans exctatic they were champions, look what happened! What will be will be. Every game, every match is different and you can't say what will or won't happen. Injuries, referee mistakes, human error etc it's all part of the wonderful game and that's why we love it.
I see it has 46 game against 23 teams and you get as many points as you can. How and who against couldn't give a toss really. Every team will lose games, even when they didn't deserve to (us vs Orient) and every team will win games they didnt deserve (Mk Dons away CharlieMac)

But over 40chances in 2 games and 1 goal how can this be good?
Doesnt matter how many you create if you cant put it away, like the lob from Donaldson that a centre half would have been proud of as a backpass.

Rubbish.the point is we are creating, which is better than not creating.if you dont create you cant convert.if you do create theres the oppertunity to convert.simple enough isnt it ?

It's not just the strikers though is it ? We need a greater attacking contribution from the midfield too and a greater desire to get bodies into the danger areas and not just around the periphery. The fact we're creating chances is good, but too many at the moment are not so much guilt edge chances as half chances. As others have said, we need to find a way of developing our attractive passing game and plentiful possession so that we really start to hurt teams. For all that was good about Tuesday, we only made their keeper work three or four times which isn't enough and we didn't provide good enough ball to the forwards where it mattered.

Whether that's a case of the forwards not taking up the right positions or the midfield not having that bit of guile to find that killer ball I don't know - a bit of both I suspect but certainly two of our best chances came from balls played by the forwards themselves, the pass by Hayes for the Donaldson shot which drew the smart save and the ball from Donaldson inside the ball to Forrester which resulted in the Hayes air shot.

Do you mean gilt edged chances? ( Unless they feel guilty for missing them!)

Ok you win, I cant argue anymore, if you think Walsall, Orient, Colchester, Bury, Yeovil, & Crewe will come top 10, thats your views.

whos to say they will or wont ? how do you know ? more so 6 games in. thats my point

what your saying is then that sheff utd, coventry are certs to go up then for where they finished last season, budgets etc

You will likely get the odd surprise package, e.g. Stevenage, but these football divisions don't usually stand on their heads in terms of resources.
Expect to see Sheff Utd, Preston, MK Dons up the top by Christmas or their managers will likely be collecting their P45s.

Orient need Cook and Rowland's "class" (okay, superior technique), because without them I think they will struggle, which leads me to wonder if Andy Scott is looking to position himself to take over if they fire Russell Slade.

yes,of course but nobody knows 6 games in who should be beating who or where anyone should be finishing.nobody to me stands out in this division.
e,g walsall were rubbish both time we layed them and i didnt see much about them but they went and won at notts county who are at the right end of the table

If we finished one place ahead of Sheff United, I will be happy, and I'm sure that wouldnt be far from automatic promotion. As I said yesterday you win, I cant be asked to argue.

yes and i have said that that is our current problem. The point is we now have better players, we are performing so much better and creating endless amounts of chances, that is the improvement,we are not a far off, when our strikers want to start scoring it could be a free for all,id rather be creating the chances than not as there is a chance of scoring,if we arent creating then theres no chance of scoring, the majority of our squad are doing what theyre meant to.yet people want to ignore the positives and just bash everyone and everything we are doing

Just suppose the strikers are doing their best and carry on like they are and we keep losing 1.0, how long do you give them?

Keep losing 1-0. We've lost one game by that margin so a little bit premature

Looking at some of the results yesterday in League one puts our own in perspective. For me it shows that the point at Walsall was a good one as they are on form. Also in successive weeks, Sheffield United have fauled to beat Bury or Scunthorpe, the so called lesser teams. Maybe it is amiss of us to assume that we should have won certain fixtures, Orient included

Agree. At this stage of the season there are no easy games. Form is always topsy turvy until teams settle in.

We are playing some great stuff no one can deny however, having seen us outplay Brighton, Charlton and Southampton at home in recent years without coming away with our just desserts it is clear to me that we are not PO material yet. These teams all went up from Lge 1 recently without particularly impressing at GP but had the knack/resilience/luck (whatever you want to call it) to get results when they least deserved it. We need to have this quality if we have serious ambitions this season or next for that matter, We certainly dont have it at the moment.

Spot on, need to become harder to beat and win scruffy if needed. That needs strong characters, winners and leaders which maybe why Craig and Hayes have been signed.

I cant be bothered to read through 348 posts, so this may have been said already.

To me Farid came on an angry man, with justification, and played like one. He obviously has the passion and the hunger to do well, so should start at Dean Court.

Highlight was Phil Dowd's defensive block on Rowlands. Top defending!

Northampton Bee has said about something not right, Mick C has said about needing to take it to the next level, and some other posters have wondered if some of our opponents have sussed out that we play pretty but don't threaten enough.
The next level to me would seem to be a more pressing, threatening game, our midfielders getting in scoring positions more often and shooting. Douglas, Diagoura, Saunders apart from free kicks, Kevin O, I just don't see these guys scoring enough.
