Our Corners?

O'Connell has consistently looked more dangerous at corners than Tarky and Dean......

Our Corners?

Yes, but then you could counter that by saying our corners have been **** up until the Fulham game IMO.

True......but i still think O'Connell has got on the end of them and threatened more.....as well as yesterday's goal he also made himself chances against both Bolton and MK Dons......probably more goal bound efforts in 3 games than Tarky and Dean combined all season.....maybe he is able to make more of the deliveries??……

Our Corners?

He simply attacks he ball better and seems to have better attacking instincts than Harlee and Tarks.

Barbet also had a great header brilliantly saved from a corner against Preston

I've always wondered how both of them can be such good headers of the ball defensively but so much weaker at it in attack.

Different sort of header. I know I spent 20 years playing centre half after loosing my bottle as a goalie.

Our Corners?

.................and another.............

Our Corners?

..............a lot better at the moment..............

Our Corners?

Definite improvement, is smith embracing the specialists more than previous head coaches?

I imagine it's been longer than that to work on the different routines but they do seem to be paying off.

Our Corners?

It helps that the ball is actually getting past the first defender. Judgie's delivery was much better today. It has been the worst part of his game this year. It always amazes me that professional footballers, even those in the Premier League, can't get the ball into the danger area from a corner and often can't get the ball over the nearest defender.

Our Corners?

..............and another goal..............

Our Corners?

Our set plays have been one of the positives of this season for me. Yes sometimes we hit the forst man but aybe we are aiming for that front post area and sometimes under hit it.

Good goal from Barbet.

From Squawka, last season (46 games) we scored 13 of our 77 goals from set pieces, 4 from corners. That's about 16% and ranked us 23rd in the league. This season we have scored 12 goals out of our 48 from set pieces (not sure if that includes yesterday's game - let's assume it does so 35 games), 6 from corners. That's 25% and ranks us 7th in the league.

we swung over a corner and headed it in...good job gianni vio is doing , what about the 20 other corners and set pieces we did nothing from..

Yes, it's that simple isn't it? I'm not sure why every team ever doesn't score from every corner ever taken.

The data's there - we are better this season than last at set pieces. What more is it you want?

Your right!!!! Get rid of the bloke. We should score from every set piece like every other club is doing!!!!!! As Les said we are 7th in the league for goals from set pieces.

Awful post.

maybe a bit of inventiveness, a freekick routine that is something a bit different and I don't mean us using a 4 man wall...

So no acknowledgement that we're better this year than last then?

Our Corners?

yes it looks better but some are rather generous like judges v hudds that drifted in....last season we were awful from set pieces but just because we've improved this season doesn't negate the amount of rubbish SP yesterday and most FK this season

Our Corners?

Our set pieces are miles better more inventive and successful than last year.

The quality of the ball in has improved immeasurably.

Shame that our most dangerous attacker from them is O'Connell who otherwise isn't currently worth his place.

Our Corners?

More success for our 'behind the scenes' dead-ball specialists.

Our Corners?

The Tom Field corner has to be the best this season?

Our Corners?

Our Corners?

Scored from a corner in our last 2 home games......

Our Corners?

It's a myth that we don't score from corners. We did ok last year.

Our Corners?

Surprising. MacLeod usually clears the near post.

About four hit the first man out seven, iirc?

Still got another hit from behind again too. He takes some punishment does Lewis. Likes to tackle as well. Like the kid a lot.... :)

Our Corners?

I think Macleod was targeting Bjelland at the near post, not Egan and Dean at the back; maybe Smith had identified that as a weakness.

Quite possibly. Lewis was drilling them in lower than usual. A scouting report probably highlighted a weakness....

Our Corners?

corners were clearly to orders.. many puzzled faces around me

I think it's a decent tactic if you have three big men. One flick on, two attacking.

Our Corners?

Our set pieves were good last year and wr have looked dangerous from many corners this year too, last night wasn't great but its only one game.

Our Corners?

I would imagine that one of our analysts has found that pumping balls into the box at someone's head very rarely results in a goal.
You've got it spot on. I was reading an article a little while ago that said exactly that - statistically very few goals are scored from corner kicks.

Which is the primary reason (I believe) they were experimenting a lot with taking them short. There's a lot of advantages to be had from doing this: they retain possession and more importantly they draw defenders away from the penalty area.

Our Corners?

And another goal from a corner. :(
