according to sky sports megson is looking to trim the squad and evans is at the top of the list. he could be just what we need now skulason and newman are carrying injuries he said he loved it here and could produce some long range fire power something we rarely show.

Paul Evans

i saw that as well just thought i would give it a section to discuss him as a transfer target

Paul Evans

it would be great to see what MA could get out of him as i would imagine hes just the type of player MA likes

Paul Evans

I thought that Oli was potentially our new Paul Evans; he seems to like to get stuck in.

Paul Evans

Difficult to forgive him, lovely bloke though he may be, for not turning up at the MilStad when it really mattered.

Paul Evans

The rumours were that he was a rather disruptive influence in the dressing room, hardly the type of personality you would expect Martin to get along with.

Paul Evans

I don't really want him back and to be honest I think MA has what he needs especially if Newman will be back shortly - there can't be much wrong with a team that wins so convincingly away from home.

He left fullstop and i tend to agree with Nigel's comment about Baadiff. :nono:

Well those rumours are totally incorrect Mr Luton ! :nono:

We won't see Sir Evo back in a Bees shirt at this time, a somewhat massive gap in Notts Forest wages to ours - I know the figures so believe me !

btw Mr Brooks Sir and I.o.W. Bee, ever remember Sir Evo's Preston and Burnley goals or are they and all of his Captain Marvel efforts erased from your memory because Stoke put two players on him at Baadiff at the end of a very long, hard season when none of the players turned up through sheer exhaustion more than anything !

I heard the same rumours about his disruptive influence and, as they say, there's no smoke without fire!

I felt it was not just the Millstad match, but about the last quarter of that season that he was missing.

Defo would not want him back as a player even if we could afford him. however, until that last quarter season I feel he was probably the best Bees captain we have had in my time supporting the club.

Wil payers like him now command such salaries as he earned after leaving us? I think not.

Paul Evans

Still have the Preston goal on my computer.

No the Cpatian Marvel efforts aren't forgotten by any means. But, and it's a big but, when it really mattered, two players marking, tiredness or whatever, he, along with others, didn't make the journey down the M4.
I look at some of the players we had last season, playing through pain every week, and just feel that they would have made a better fist of rising to the occasion.

Paul Evans

I agree that he had a bad game against Stoke. He was however, a quality midfielder who I'd be happy to see in a Brentford shirt.

However, it's not going to happen, is it?

Paul Evans

Disruptive influence?? If anything as I remember the team spirit was a good as has ever been seen at the Bees at that time, mainly down to Evo, he was a superb captain and player for us and I'd have him back like a shot. All this cr@p about him not turning up at the Mill stad.. well he didn't have a great game but he certainly wasnt alone there, can't think of anyone in that team who covered themselves in glory that day.. Burgess even scored for Stoke for God's sake!!

Noted but when it mattered he failed, thats my strongest memory of him.

Paul Evans

We have all failed to rise to the big occasion before :grey:

I would have him back

i think that could sum up pretty much 99% of all Brentford players over the years!!

Paul Evans

He is a quality player! I'd have him back anyday! Everyone talks about wages, i'm sure if MA wanted him then he could get him some way, after all Deon Burton was at Portsmouth before he came to us, he must of taken a big wage cut. Same with Salako and Owusu, there wages must of been alot bigger before they came to the bees!

No chance......

When all fit we have..

Newman
Skulason
Tabb
Hutchinson
Keenan................all can & will play in the middle.

Cover at centre half seems more important I believe

So did bloody :afro: Deon! :sneakoff:

Seriously though, I was half expecting O'Connor to start in centre-mid after some impressive performance there in pre-season.

Also Kev, Marcus, Framps, Tillen,Osborne and probably somebody else who i`ve forgotten. Cover for Sam and Turner virtually non-existent, other than players out of position.

Marcus Gayle has been playing centre back on a regular basis over the last few years, and at Championship level, it is he who will cover for Turner & Sodje. Frampton has also played many of his games during his carreer as a centre back. Its maybe not ideal, but it will also be very difficult to obtain a good quality centre back to sit on the bench. You are always only going to get a young unproven reject (and we already have Osbourne as our young unproven one) or a slow never has been.
I think Ill settle for Marcus & Frampton as cover. :sorted:

Paul Evans

surley if PE came back this would be fantastic news, brilliant midfielder, sets up goals and scores a few aswell, and also is a TEAM LEADER which we dont have atm !

I think you mean no thanks!

Evo was great when he got his head up and played it simple, unfortunatly he seemed to think he was the best player on the pitch most of the time, and tried to hit 70 yard cross field passes which 99% of the time never found their target.

I seem to remember that as soon as Reading started to sniff around in the January of the "nearly" year his form went and he seemed to accept that he wouldn't be here the following year.

Lovely bloke maybe, but we wouldn't have Gibbo back would we?

Well with Skullasson now out for the season at least, maybe he would be ideal now!!
He has been given a free by Forest & has a year left on his contract. Maybe we could get him on a season long loan and contribute % of his salary to Forest. We get him at a decent wage and Forest make a saving on his last years contract money. Alternatively he can negotiate a pay off from Forest and have to reduce his salary at another club, which is what Owusu has done.
The other alternative is to get Keenan loan extended longer term.

Paul Evans

In the current circumstances, a full season loan would probably be a reasonable idea, but I suspect that Evo is now past his best, and in my opinion, was always overrated.

Yes, he scored some great goals, at times was an inspirational captain, and drilled some excellent long passes occasionally, but I seem to recall that his passing was often wayward and his tackling, more often than not, resulted in free kicks and bookings.

I would hope that there might be a half decent up-and-coming creative central midfielder that we could get on loan, which I think would be a better bet, especially as Newman will be back soon and I suspect that he and Evans might be too similar.

We may not even need to get anyone new in - after all, when Newman is back, we will have him, Hutch, Tabb, KO'C and Dobbo who could all do a job in central midfield, although with differing degrees of success. If one of Newman, Tabb or Hutch then gets injured, we would definitely have a problem, but possibly MA doesn't need to panic quite yet.

If you listened to MA on BBC London 94.9 last night, there is no chance! Can't afford him; no money left at all. I think we will need to live with what we've got and trust MA to bring out the best in them.

Paul Evans

don't overly rate evo,has a great shot on him but as has been said above his passing is not the best.
i'm sure there are far better options at a much lower cost.

Paul Evans

We were saying yesterday we have missed a tough nut in midlfield like Evans this season and although I don't think he would do a job for us anymore, someone like him would be a great find, maybe Terry Buthcer knows a few

Shame the club can't set up some sort of email address where us fans ( who of course know everything  ) can email in names and info of players who we have "found" and that would be good for the club and worth a look?

Paul Evans

Sounds like they want to keep him next year and only 13 games this season seems a bit of a risk. Maybe he'd fancy a playing/coaching role?

Paul Evans

Can someone explain what they think a 33 year old ex-player, who can't hold down a regular place in a current League 2 side, can do for us next season? It's not American "football"; we can't bring him on just to take free kicks. BFC is not an old folks' home for retired players.

Paul Evans

I'd have Evo back anyday of the week....

Paul Evans

Nope, Shipperley is younger than that.;)

Player Coach maybe?

If you are talking about Evans then the Swindon article clearly states that Swindon want to keep him and to have him play a pivotal part in their League 1 campaign next season. They will be a division above and able to pay more money so where will Evo go?

If you are talking about Shipperley, then he will need to get himself fit and to cut the old Stella out first. Will make a good coach as can be seen by the stories eminating from Saturdays game about the difference between Ide playing alongside Owusu rather than the Shipp. I can not believe he was not asked to do the caretaker role, bit thick or not. We are paying him shed loads to sit on his arse and have had to bring in another coach to work with Barry at the training ground.

Paul Evans

Perhaps Shipperley is part of the problem, not the cure?

Paul Evans

Scored some cracking goals over the years!!!
I love him:love: :love2: lol :fishing:

Paul Evans

I knew it'd get a few people crying. He's over 30 so obviously he must be using a zimmer frame.

Paul Evans

A couple of spectacular goals on Sky, adding a little extra oomph at the end of 98-99 Div 3 Championship season, being belittled by Gary Owers, and perhaps 15 "Captain's" performances over 3 seasons in Div 2. Evo simply wasn't quite as good as people remember and was pretty anonymous (albeit always hard working) for pretty much 2 seasons in Div 2 and completely failed to rise to the occasion or inspire his team-mates as captain in 2 Cardiff finals.

The fact that his career has pretty much fizzled out on leaving us says it all. If he'd stayed on the bench on returning from injury in 2002 and we'd kept Mahon as captain and the number one player in centre midfield we might well have got automatic promotion (didn't our run of 5 consecutive defeats pretty start with Evo's return from injury on Boxing Day away at Cambridge?).

I think that is a very harsh assessment. He was our captain during a pretty successful period, and was alway one of our better players during that time.

And its funny how everyone rates Mahon now. I seem to remember his being sold hardly raising much of a murmur at all at the time, and most on here seemed to think he was shiite...

And he wasn't the only player not to perform at the Cardiff Finals.
