I thought I'd read somewhere that Clayton had said he'd take them.

After witnessing Douglas's penalty at Barnet, I hope he doesn't take the next one! Clayton is the nominee I believe.

Its Donaldson :dj:

Penalty taker

KOC said on bees player they hadn't talked about it in training but said it was most likely to be Saunders

Penalty taker

Wouldn't mind see Legge blasting them past the keeper!

Penalty taker

Saunders would be my choice... I think Douglas might pass it to a team-mate rather than have a shot

Penalty taker

Bet we don’t get another for the rest of the season!

Sam missed one against Southampton last season and got dogs on here for taking it.

Would say Clayton to help boost his tally but can just imagine the stick and impact on his confidence if he missed.

I've always thought keepers taking pens is entertaining too.

He hit the post, all his other penalties in shootouts were excellent though.

That was the season we missed about a million penalties from open play. Saunders would be my choice. Letting Donaldson take them is asking to knock his confidence again. He missed one in pre-season... the rest is history

Penalty taker

Must admit I'd go with Saunders. If Clayton steps up ten out of ten for having big Kahunas but no offence if I keep my eyes shut;)

He hit the post having sent the keeper totally the wrong way - unlucky IMO - Saunders for penalties in my view.

Penalty taker

;)

Then past the crossbar, the roof of the stand, etc.

Would go for Leon only if penalties had to be taken using the head.

Question answered :bound:

Penalty taker

As this thread has had such a positive impact on last night's game, should someone start a thread asking how we should celebrate our 5th goal on Saturday?

Penalty taker

...............oh dear..............

I wasn't overly confident when Donaldson stood up to take it, but to hit the bar...he needs to do better, post you can sorta understand but the bar is another thing...

Didn't he hit the bar for the friendly in Norway as well from the spot?

Saunders, 2nd penalty in a row that he's hit the post (Saints last year). But it was still a better penalty than Clays.

I miss Gary

Penalty taker

just a thought, maybe the manager and his numerous assistants could decide penalty strategy before the game, hopefully to avoid having two players squabbling over the ball? or am i being disloyal again...

Penalty taker

Can I suggest my Nan. She is 97 and needs a walking frame.

Penalty taker

Too much faffing about before the kick. What's Morrison geting involved for? Named penalty taker (named by manager) collects the ball and takes it......end of. Both pens today had the keeper going the wrong way before the kick was taken. Easy from row M but having sent the keeper the wrong way don't you just role it in the other corner? I know we're a 3rd division team and we have 3rd division players for a reason but it's cost us a place in the play offs today.

How is hitting the post better than hitting the bar ! You don't get anything different by hitting the post - might just as well balloon it out of the ground because a miss is a miss ..:(

Penalty taker

CD was pure fright where he went mental and walloped it, Sam placed his and hit the inside of the post, 2 missed pens but one more barmy than the other. Penalty taker for next season please.

Says a lot about CD sadly, a striker with confidence generally wouldnt get caught like a rabbit in headlights like that. I would also add that a striker with confidence would have wanted to at least tahe the 2nd in order to redeem themselves.

I really want it to work for CD but just cant see it happening. Happy to have him as part of a 4 strong strikeforce next year, but we cannot keep relying on him

Penalty taker

Post or bar is the same to me.

If you are going to miss at least make the keeper save it.

Penalty taker

We have a penalty taker :kingkev: just a pity he's been injured for most of the season

I just imagine a shot that hits the post is hit with a bit more composure than one that hits the bar. But indeed no difference in the end.

"Just make sure you get it on target"....there are some words by Andy Scott that were good

Sentence 1: Exactly.
Sentence 2: no.

Can't really criticise players for missing penalties & I am not a Clayton hater, infact he's probably been one of our best 5 players this season, but he seemed to have no interest in following in for the rebound of his pen, just stood & felt sorry for himself. Did I imagine that? Unacceptable.

He can't touch the rebound

He can't touch the rebound

^^^ This.

If the keeper saves then he can go for it, but as it hit the bar Clayton is still technically the last player to have touched it.

And some people want rid of super Kev. Get ball, put on spot, pick your corner, foot through it. Simples.

Penalty taker

What the fuc was he doing a chipped penalty, put your foot through it, he's not messi!

Penalty taker

This. Clayton didn't get nervous and wallop it - that was what I wanted him to do! Clayton tried to chip it down the middle a la Van Persie and that was the wrong penalty for a game of this magnitude at 0-0... Sam's was an inch away from being a perfect unsaveable penalty, the luck just wasn't with us on that one.

Someone made a good comment on another thread that Morriosn should have taken the penalties, given his experience and the tension of the situation. That said, hands up all of us that were screaming at the radio "give the ball to Saunders" when we got the second kick!

Penalty taker

I think the point is that it should be decided beforehand.

Although maybe it was decided that CD would take them, but after missing the first he didnt fancy the 2nd?

Penalty taker

............yep............who take them now???????????.............

Penalty taker

draw up a list, something like Kev, farid, forshaw, clayton, hayes, saunders, you keep going until you miss, if you are not on the pitch it goes to the next name down but reverts back to you for the next one. If you miss (a save is a miss) you go to the bottom of the list. No squables, no berty big b's i'm taking it. Everyone knows who's taking it. Possible exception for potential hatricks.
