Programme Sales

Programme Sales

In fact it’s us fans who blow hot and cold buying them. Range of sales is from about 1,200 per match to 2,200 in the most popular games. As said above, you should now be able to buy one at any food kiosk.

The problem is that you need to know where to look for them. If the presence of the programme was much more clearly advertised sales would increase. Not just amongst the regulars either. A programme makes for a much better (and cheaper) souvenir for a visiting
neutral than a half and half scarf. It's hard to avoid the impression that the club is trying to marginalise it to the point where it can be quietly scrapped.

I believe if the club had the option it would scrap it altogether.

But what could be clearer than going to your normal food outlet - which you could do on entry through the turnstiles?
However we have asked the club to put better signage up, eg in similar style to the foodkiosk signage.

Programme Sales

There are several clubs in the Championship, and many more lower down, that have already done just that. Its very sad.
Yes i see that over time, but in non league they are making a comeback and are giving fans what they want.
Personally i think if 1500 fans want a programme then print 1500.

No problem with that. It is as, as you've identified, just a case of better signage. Or any signage at all. In the Dug Out programmes are available from the merchandise stall, but you would never know because there is no signage and the programmes themselves are hidden away in a box.

How many are sold in total when the mail order ones are counted?

How many are sold in total when the mail order ones are counted?
I think that is the total sales, and the mailorder makes up only 5 percent of that.

Hardly surprising that mail order is low, given the cost of the despatch, and the fact that many complain that they don’t get the programme before the match. But From the clubs perspective it is apparantly very hard to despatch earlier due to editorial cutoff details.

4.75 to post a Brentford one when i got a Tottenham one for 1.50 postage.
If i did not get one on the day at home games then i find it easier to go direct to eBay and get one from there.
I find it frustrating the club treat the programme as a pain in the butt and treat it with such disdain.

Do you have any suggested alternative approaches that the club could take? Ie I have wondered if they used the Ticket Office that only charges £1 to send out Tickets. The reason for the huge charge is apparantly that the club outsource the “picking” of all retail items and pay a ?£2 charge for doing so. Is why all postage on all items is £4.75.

The answer to all of this is contract out the programme operation. I know someone that would probably take the contract tomorrow.

The club would get a set licence fee each year and the printer would handle all operations, including sales, editorial, and design and take on the financial risk. It is literally as simple as that.

Sales were the same 12 years ago in league one with 30% of the crowd so it leaves me to think they are simply running it down or can’t be bothered. I’d love to hear the club’s take on why we can’t sell more with 17,000 in the ground.

If this is what you think, it will be important for enough fans to say this in the End Of Season Survey. You have to make your voice count collectively, to be heard.
I certainly will.
It used to be top draw.
It has not got to be a novel, but informative and eye catching with more less celebrity involvement and more supporter based.
NLB,Rebus and Wanderer Paul put great time and effort into their contribution and not only that we knew them.
I would include more supporters to give me their favourite away day, being a bee,why do i follow BFC,Tales from the terraces.
Articles we can relate to interspersed with away team news, club news, line ups fixtures and results and a bit of nostalgia from the last 40 years or so.
You know what i mean ?

Make it bloody difficult to buy one.

Club shop had none at around 2:15pm.

Why would I think to get one from the food kiosk?
Never at Brentford or any ground have I seen or been able to buy a programme from the food kiosk.
No signs.

The one I went to didn't have any, so had to go to the next kiosk. Aggro.

Programme Sales

Sold out again Saturday. Happens for most of the big games. Seems people buy in multiple for the folks back home. Just my oberservation- the club should have the sales stats although when it comes to monitoring how out of stock you are thats a difficult one. Marginal cost of a programme is buttons so youd hope someone in the commercial department might take a punt and order more.

Programme Sales

I would think whoever is looking at sales will only be looking at total sales.
In the old days if one program seller sold out he would go and help another, not any more it’s becoming a side product.
Someone should be looking at what locations sell out, what time they sell out, work out some distribution amounts. Do this first for 5 or 6 games. It would reduce the waste ( unsold programs ) by a considerable amount. But hay ho who am I to tell them what to do

many times (when he is there) the seller on the bridge is still stood there even though he has sold out. Young lad told me they are told to stay there even if sold out.
Odd one, people presume because he is there he has programmes.

Buy 6 for 18 quid and sell on eBay for 7/8 quid each.
Its Chelsea so they sell.

We used to walk past Kew Station ,turn left and there was a programme seller.
Nice and easy.Too easy so they scrap that one.
Now there is one by the away coach which gets a nice queue, but if it works then that will go aswell.
One by the ticket off ice is the best though.
A nice queue right in front of the entrances to the South Stand.
Surely that will have to go as well.
I can see Cliff staring down on us thinking of ways to stop us buying this product with Mr Varney doing what he is told.
I never have known a club make it so difficult for us all to buy something.
It should not be this difficult, but it is and its so annoying.

They do help each other out, in terms of they can contact central distribution who can replenish stocks.

The siting of the kiosk by the ticket office was due to Wi-Fi being better there. (I asked the seller).
Maybe the siting by the away coach is for similar reasons.

Yes maybe.
The wifi is non existent in S107 so you would surely not be able to buy one in the food area there.
