Rasmus Ankersen

Can't find any proper thread on Rasmus but if a mod knows of one please merge.

Rasmus joined as director of football in May 2015 and since then he's pretty much built the club in his image. The scandinvian influence across the club is now huge. In the media and even amongst fans there is often focus on 'Benham's vision'.

But how much credit/responsibility does RA need to take? Also, is he unsackable?

He has been heavily involved in the acquisition of raw talent and relatively unknown overseas players who have played their part and helped cement us in this league and who we’ve sold on for vast profits.

Policy is find cheap, develop, sell at maximum value and repeat. Our model is the envy of most clubs in this and other divisions, the football has in recent seasons been the best most of us have ever seen and on one of the lowest playing budgets in this league.
Unlikely to be sacked, let’s hope we can keep him?

Benham and Rasmus are a team. That’s how i see it. I guess Benham will rethink when we stop progressing, RA isn’t unsackable, but right now it all feels very good.

I'd have thought the only reasons for Rasmus moving on would either be a massive personal falling out with MB so that he left both us and FCM or, more likely, if MB bought another club and wanted him to oversee its Benhamification.

I’d agree with AB. RA has the vision, PG manages the execution, with Rob Rowan.

I’m sure this has been done before; maybe it was a PG interview.

I think he’s got to take a lot of the credit for where we are now. He’s the one I think driving the determination to find ‘an edge’ where we can and also to persue new ideas and ways of working etc. By the very nature of that experimentation some things will work better than others (as we saw in the first season under him and Giles) but with that in mind you’d imagine it’d take something fairly consistently disastrous to warrant him being moved on..

Some of the most influential people at our club have departed in the last 12 months. I feel Rasmus needs now to step up to the plate of ensuring continuity of football operations. The buck stops with him. If that means he takes a temporary step back from things at FCM then so be it.

Well MB will probably be the best judge of that, you missed off Mark Devlin by the way, although he hasn't actually left yet

He's doing a good job like he's mostly done so far, him and Phil will remain in their roles, which has nothing to do with Rob Rowan or DS etc.

There are others who you could have posted this for though, Matthew Benham, Cliff Crown, Phil Giles etc. Why focus on Rasmus?

Terrible timing, things aint going great for all different reasons. What we want at this time is complete unity.

Andy Scott left and we replaced him with Rob Rowan (who by all accounts was a great replacement - RIP).
Dean Smith left and we replaced him with Thomas Frank who'd managed in the Danish top flight previously (and did a good job) and is therefore arguably more experienced than Smith (and based on the transition I'd defy anyone to have noticed from our play that it was TF at the helm and not DS!).
Richard O'Kelly left with Smith, had only been here a few years, and is hardly likely to have been such a major influence at the club that Rasmus needs to "step up" and do something drastically different.
The loss of RR is tragic but his job's not one that's likely to have an impact on the field in the short-medium term (ignoring the obvious grief/bereavment aspect) so just a case of the club having to look carefully for someone else to come in and continue/build on his good work.
As others say you've still got all the other top bods still at the club and not sure what Rasmus "stepping up" actually means........what's he supposed to do (bar helping recruit for the posts we need to fill as I'm sure he'll do)?

Sorry didn’t mean what I said with any bad taste.

Perhaps timing could have been better, but I never know what to say in these situations.

To explain my point - at Brentford the churn of influential technical football staff has been high in the last 12 months and I guess I’m just highlighting (my perception of) the importance of RR’s work by pointing out that we will need Rasmus to be more hands on over the coming months to bridge the gap.

Sorry again if I upset anyone. I feel awful about the news and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

Who gives a wotsit about what will happen in the coming months at the moment.

Robert Rowan’s wife has lost a husband. His family has lost a son, a brother, an uncle, a nephew. Brentford Football Club has lost a very VERY special person.

Take time out this international break and reflect on how old you are and realise a man not much older than you has passed away.

Ras, Phil, MB etc can do whatever they wish. I really don’t care. They’re grieving as anyone of us is.

Best to just leave it. Friends and family (people in general) is the most important thing right now. The only thing important at Brentford right now is making sure Roberts friends and family are supported and the right things are done in his honour. Everything else is insignficant for the mean time.

Quite. The vilification of indivuals is sad but to be expected. I suspect both of the above gentlemen will be attending Rob’s funeral on Friday and can perhaps start the process of closure.

I cannot overstate what a trauma his death has brought on the entire training ground and frankly I’ve found football takes a second best when it comes to friends and family.

Of course it has. When certain sections of the crowd are literally bawling, eyes popping at the players for making mistakes, I sit there and think that some of these lads are barely two years older than my son and we have no right to abuse them in that way. To me it says much, much more about the individual shouting than the player.

Quite right these boys are very young, and are only going to improve. My son is 23 older than a lot of our lads a lot lower level but the same principle, by all accounts he is playing out of his skin this season.Same principle he is stronger mentally and physically is gaining loads of experience and will only get better. We have sold so many players and have got away with it. Selling Woodsey has set us back a bit, I know he hardly played this season but confidence slipped after the Reading and Brum games Dean Smiths era by the way. IMO we are very inexperienced at this present time. could be the time to invest in some experience.

Our form has been terrible since the Arsenal game. We’ve only played twice since the absolutely tragic event.

While I am sure it has had an impact on the team since, to link our poor results to this seems a huge stretch.

Rasmus, since taking over has slowly shaped the club into his image.

A ‘Gold mine’ we have become, producing assets worth well more than their weight in the precious metal on a regular basis.

We also have a Danish head coach, something like 20 professionals from Scandinavia on our books and a partnership with the club he played for in his youth.

It does, to some extent, from a footballing perspective feel like his own project we are watching unfold.

Although this video is aimed at a younger audience it still shows some insight.

Said he noticed this more in the Champions League.

So it sounds like whoever we're after, they will be more 'athletic' than what we have. Whatever that means!
