Referee at Orient

I have to say after watching the game back on TV, he was no where near as bad as I thought. The Saville foul was a pen and he did get one or two others wrong, but when I was at the game it felt like he was making a terrible decision every 30 seconds! Also Judges foul towards the end was a bit naughty.

Well I watched it in the Griffin and to a man and woman everyone thought he was diabolical!

Seen plenty of refs over the years and this one is up there with the worst you could wish to see.Not as bad as the fat c*** in 1998, but not far off.

6 yellows 1 red and was it a dirty game?

5 minutes of added time and not one injury on the pitch.Where did that come from???

William Hills maybe?

The good thing is we are moaning about the ref in a match we won! Seen enough over the years where the refs performance has cost us points. Today we won with 10 against 12. If he wasn't biased, he was incompetent so if I was him, I'd tell people I took a bung!

totally agree with this having been there and just watched. Yes, a couple of obvious decisions he got wrong against us but most were probably right. Still, good to get the goading going.

In a way I reckon the ref worked to our advantage in the end today. I think he stoked up the atmosphere in our stand by the sense of injustice we were feeling and Orient didn't know how to break us down when we went to 10 men. So cheers ref you were rubbish but you may have done us a favour.

Referee at Orient

An abysmal performance by the ref and the lino on the opposite side to our stand.
I chatted with an Orient friend of mine after the match who was seated opposite the edge of the penalty area in the stand opposite ours. He (and his mates) fully understood why the Bees fans were getting upset, citing specifically the regular fouls on Donaldson which were not punished and some offsides plus the Saville penalty claim.
I thought at first that the ref’s decisions were just random but as the game wore on it seemed that offences by our players were penalized while similar within seconds by Orient were ignored.
My view on JT’s dismissal was that whilst the second yellow was deserved ( a really silly challenge in the circumstances) the first was very harsh.
Ironically it was his dismissal that seemed to galvanise us to a better performance.
I am very relieved these clowns did not cost us points.

I like how one thought Donaldson not only threw A punch but SEVERAL punches! And apparently even rushed to the commentators monitors to watch replays and confirmed it! What replays was he watching?
They agree it was a stonewall penalty. Apparently should've had 3 red cards. He may have got decisions 'correct' for the ones he gave, its more the ones he DIDN'T give. Plenty of 50/50's went their way - actually all of them did. Plenty of fouls he missed when should have been to us to then see them be fouled for identical things seconds later and fouls given. The bookings given were mostly a joke compared to what they got away with completely in comparison.

One of the worst performances I have seen from a ref certainly this season, and there have been 1 or 2 bad ones. He should be sacked.

My god! I have just looked on their thread. Are these people for real. Talk about sour grapes

Tarkowski's 2nd yellow was valid but his first yellow wasn't. Didn't even touch the player. Orient players went down like a sack of spuds everytime there was a 50/50 ball. He was totally inconsistent and his lino's were just as bad. Abysmal performance

Referee at Orient

Also funny how the Orient supporters are going on about 3 of ours should have been sent off, yet dont mention any Orient players pushing and shoving in the melee, the player who kicked McCormack while he was down and although admitting it was a clear penalty that their guy should have been sent off for fouling a player who had a clear goalscoring chance. So if they think we should have had 3 players sent off so should have they.

Saying they went down like sack of spuds (LO fans are describing Donaldson of doing the exact same BTW).... I remember the foul given against us on the edge of our box when their player slipped over... seemed like whenever they hit the deck it was a foul.

Here here. Although he could have sent judge off for his lunge late in the second half. Some refs would have.

Blatant pen which the sky crew couldn't believe wasn't given.

If he seriously thinks that was anything like a bar brawl he should come on a night out with me.

That was handbags at dawn.

Worst this season. This was one occasion when our fans were shouting for a handball in the 2nd half...he blew up but gave it the other way. I think he thought the home fans were shouting...just pathetic!!!

I think Tarky's sending off was justified having now seen a replay of both bookings, we should 100% have had a penalty, but Judge's foul never deserved a sending off as Sky the commentators suggested.

Oh and Clayton should have been off for a raised hand. I disagree with that rule, but 9 times out of 10 if the ref sees that he's off.

Was not a raised hand...it was pushing someone away who was being aggressive towards his team mate.

For those who can remember and for context, better or worse than the ref who "conducted" us at Brisbane Road a few years back?

Referee at Orient

Shocking display from all the officials today! As for Slade - Did he see the clear penalty? Did Orient take advantage of the numerous fouls given against us today? Well maybe he should take a long hard look at his own teams performance. Well done to Donaldson for looking out for his teammates! Oh and another thing - What is all that rubbish about we looked like we had won the FA Cup. More to the point we were celebrating a super performance against what was 11 players, a referee and two linesmen.
Onwards and Upwards

............far far worse..............

I'm not sure, that was the only time I've Known a ref to nearly cause a riot! I even witnessed a pensioner smashing seats that day! Tremendous scenes!!!!

Leyton Orient away !

Was this the return of Mr Castle and his lady friend ?

Tarks should have been substituted at half time as he appeared far too pumped up for his own good.

As for the Saville penalty, what did the referee not see - the hand ball or the shirt pull ?

Now Slade is moaning that Brentford celebrated as if they had won the cup final.

To repeat a quote from the late Ronnie Jacobs, "We didn't go there to play f***ing ludo".

ref not as bad as I thought after watching the whole game on sky+ in the 1st half..

Yes. Watched that again last night. The scream was pure Hollywood!
Couldn't work out where Tarks caught him and came to the conclusion that he didn't.

I agree Judges wasn't a sending off, but at the time I thought it wasn't even a foul! lol

I agree, but my point is you see players getting sent off for that up and down the leagues every week.

Although, not to be pedantic, his hand was technically raised.

As I said in today's Last Word column, 'a referee who was so persistently inept as to make Mr Kettle look vaguely competent'.
Never seen a performance as bad as that in a long time.
And for such a high profile game, too. But then his stats this season suggested trouble.

The only bigger joker out there today was Slade

Great article, covers just about everything, hopefully a day that will soon become one that we talk about for the rest of our lives for all the right reasons like Peterboro, 4-0 Fulham and Blackburn.

FLP marks for the ref x out of 10! Sums him up - Premiers**t rubbish who can't cope with the physicality of L1.

It was a raised hand. Doesn't matter whether he was fending off of not.
I agree a yellow was the right thing, but he could easily have been sent off. If your arms/hands are in an unnatural position it can be a red card.

Very entertaing article.

As a pedant though I have to point out that Lambrini isn't made from grapes (sour or otherwise), but from partially fermented pears.

i think the fact that the referee by general consent was a 'homer' just makes victory taste all the much sweeter. If it had cost us however I don't think I would have been as forgiving.

BFC have won the cup final this week.
Beating Orient and gaining approval for the new stadium = better than a cup final.

What gets me is that this referee is supposed to be Premier League quality, which illustrates what a shambles must go on there.
He's probably not used to real football!
This may sound ageist, but he's 28 years old, and I am not convinced that a referee has sufficient experience to handle a game like yesterday, where so much is at stake. Having said that, I have seen enough older referees, who have performed equally as badly.

As I have said before, pitch brawls all originate with the referee not getting a grip, and getting the players to trust that he is making fair and equal decisions.
One sided and poor decisions gradually stoke up players' anger and frustration, which eventually spill over.

Most linesmen never fulfil their roles as Asst. Referees as you rarely seem them helping the ref for fouls/niggles he has missed. They just seem to point out the obvious throw-ins and offsides. What's the point of the microphone system if they don't communicate with each other!

In which case he's correct then. He does have more sour grapes than Lambrini. As one pedant to another. :D

Ref was right by the incident and should have stepped in immediately and booked Vincelot for the stamp and it wouldn't have turned into an issue.
He was a cowardly homer who nearly ruined the game.

Agree Vincelot was really niggling all the time, and basically looking to provoke, and was in the heart of the incident
But as you say, ref didn't even have a word with him, let alone book.
I thought Slade was going to say at the end that the ref was the best Orient player!
