Rhys Murphy

Rhys Murphy

another top signing, why do we sign somebody thats not fit.

Rhys Murphy

Jeez folks - give him a chance. He only turned up today and was probably expected to get about 15 minutes.

Rhys Murphy

must have been a cracking debut, a sub then subbed

Apparantly he did a full training session with Arsenal this morning because he wasn't expecting to move today, which would have affected his condition.

Impossible to judge him on last night as we never got the ball to his feet.

Rhys Murphy

I'm not moaning at the poor lad - he didn't have a chance last night, and I'm sure he'll do the business in time.

However, I actually thought it was a pathetic decision to bring him on and not Cort last night. Blustery conditions, local derby, bottom of the table scrap against a physical side, having only joined up with the squad that day ... fair enough, give him a run for the last 10 minutes if chasing the game, but that was a complete and utter gamble that backfired terribly.

Rhys Murphy

to say that he had a sh*te game yesterday, would be putting it kindly :(

he didnt care, put in zero effort and should never have been put on ahead of cort

Bean was crap on his debut too.
Luckily I am sure Andy will make his judgement on more than the 60 odd mins we saw last night.

Another fans favourite then. In a team that has shown a marked inability to battle when the going gets tough I would certainly not expect a Kid playing his first game for the team to do something that the more senior players failed to do!!

Both he and Bostock will blow hot and cold, I agree that Cort would have been the preferred option and that is something only Scott can explain however cut the kids some slack it is not their fault the team is where it is

its not the fact that he played badly that bothers me, its the fact that he did not try, he didn't chase balls down or even try to get involved. he looked like he honestly didnt care and players who don't want to put the effort in should not play

Rhys Murphy

Any word from Adrian Durham on the last two loans we have made?:fishing:

Rhys Murphy

Great finisher, very calm around the box, brilliant movement, if you give him enough chances he'll work the keeper the majority of the time. He's had his fair share of injuries in the past few years, hopefully he can kick on and get over them, a good spell away from the club will be a big boost of confidence for the lad, and I wish you luck with both Szczesny and Murphy.

Didn't kick on from his showing at the u17's European Championship 3 years ago, but he showed enough for both club and country at youth levels that he'll score goals if he gets the right service, this will do him some good and hopefully he'll realise his potential again.

'If he gets the right service'

He's not fit, plus I heard he got a knock during the game.

The Brentford striker curse strikes again.

Rhys Murphy

The problem for players like Bostock & Murphy is that they play so few games. Spurs don't have a reserve team & Arsenal reserves have only played about half a dozen games this season. Tbh, we probably wouldn't have got them if they had more opportunities to play but, in any event, the difference between that type of football and the hurly-burly of D1 is substantial & it does take time for players to adjust.

They are also all coming back from injury I believe, including Pim.

If, as WEB says, Murphy did a full training session yesterday morning, it is not surprising that he did not play well last night.

Hopefully both of these guys will come good - they certainly have the talent -but unless something happens in our centre mid-field the team will, imo, always have problems.

We have 5 young loanees, 4 of whom are teenagers; one of our (currently many) problems appears to be that our more senior players don't appear to be stepping up to the mark & more inexperienced players will often suffer because of that. Where are the leaders in our team??

He probably didn't realise that this was a football match

Rhys Murphy

I'm sure they will all gell together by game 44, then we will start our winning streak.

Rhys Murphy

People need to get off of this guys back typical gpg mentality to shoot the lad down before he has even had a chance, he trained with the arsenal squad on the morning of the game and no wonder he looked tired.
A friend of mine is a huge arsenal fan, they have very high hopes for this guy and you only need to look at the you tube clips to see he knows where the goal is.... i believe andy has got this one right and he will come good in time..... i really hope a few of you are eating humble pie come christmas.

It was probably the culture shock. He's used to being part of a team that plays football, not hoofball.

Rhys Murphy

Defoe scored five goals on Sunday in less time than Murphy spent on the pitch. Get rid of him, he's useless.

Are you serious or just on the wind up ?

This thread is hilarious and the very essence of the Brentford fan's spirit: two pages of upbeat excitement and plaudits for AS (pre-match) followed by two pages of (largely) doom and gloom and what's AS up to? It's true that Tuesday night was a shocker – if I had any hair I wish I'd stayed home to wash it – but if you can honestly assess a 19-year old's contribution in a match where there were no decent out-field performances and no accurate passing, then your talents are truly wasted. Some of you should have great careers on TV as post-match analysts.

There are a number of people on this board whose posts I immediately sit up and listen to.

With that post, I now add Teesbee to the list.

I'm sorry but sensible posts are strictly forbidden following pathetic defeats against clubs fighting relegation. I forget which GPG rule this is but it's a TRUE FACT.

What should we do then, send him back? It's up to the senior players to lead by example and show the younger kids the way. We have no leaders in the team, apart from Ryan Dickson. These guys are teenagers FFs give them a chance. What concerns me is the lack of passion and guts from our own players. and how many times have I sais that over the last few years?

Jeez I never knew I could speak french.

I've just got this through from a very knowledgeable Arsenal fan at work.

See you’ve taken Rhys Murphy on loan? A very natural goal scorer, English (despite the name) and a decent turn of pace. Out injured for most of the last 18 months and at the moment is 3rd choice for the reserves but he is a seriously good finisher and if he has built his body strength up, will be a very nice asset.

Give the lad a chance, lets hope he hasn't found this website yet!!

Rhys Murphy

he should not be given a place over cort who has looked impressive over the last few games. murphy played poorly on tuesday night and i dont care if he's going to be the next michael owen, cort should start tomorrow.

Jeez.........I think we should re-sign Neil Shipperley then you'll really have something to winge about ;)

I don't think he is a replacement for Cort or Strevens, more a replacement for Charlie and the foil for either Strevens or Cort.

Also you cannot judge a 19 year old over 50 minutes coming into that awful performance on Tuesday.

I remember a young Steven Sidwell make his debut for us on a cold Tuesday night against Bury at home and he got out muscled and looked seriously light weight. If I recollect correctly he didn't turn out too bad did he?

Cort's scored something like 5 goals in 28 games over the last two and a half years, he's 32 and his legs are knack'd. Murphy's 19, scores goals for fun, but probably needs a few games. Really difficult one that: (1) play the kid a few times and see what he can do; or (2) tell Arsene we know better and send him back.

In a nutshell, that's the problem with loans. If one player disappoints and you **** around and don't play him, you don't get any more. I suspect we'll see a fair amount of Murphy over the coming weeks.

Bearing in mind Bostock and Murphy are the first loanees from Premier League clubs in living memory, I'll happily keep Harry and Arsene on side for a few games and give the kids a chance. What's the alternative... a bunch of re-treads from the lower leagues? "You can win anything with kids" (A. Hansen).

cort holds the ball up superbly and puts a huge ariel pressure on the opposition's defense. at a time when the team is 'unstable' it is stupid to play a 19 year old who has had little interaction with the squad in place of him

I dont care who he's a replacement for,he was signed to score f'ing goals I hope, some thing we dont really like doing.Hes probably got more ability in one leg than the other strikers,no disrespect but he wouldnt be at the Arse other wise.We need to get the ball to him or who ever is up front, again some thing that we dont appear to do.I really hope Bostock plays in the toad hole tomorrow with Murphy up front. We should play to the their elevated skills and support the boring roles with our league one players. If we get them to fill in and play like league one sloggers we may as well send them back now,its a waste of talent.Lets use it,enjoy it and win games whilst we can.

hes now had a week training with our squad.Shall we wait until he has more experience else where or give him the experience he was sent here for and for use the talent, albeit raw?

Quite a few in the last 2 or 3 years - Williams, Pettigrew, Milsom, Brown, Hamer, Bennett, Turner, Cox ....

You're absolutely right.

Firstly he's gotta play as presumerably he's been brought here cos he's considered better than what we've got.
Secondly let's play the ball on the bloody floor. Bostock and Murphy are footballers so let's play to their strengths rather than trying to convert them to the long ball game we seem to play.

I ask myself what murphy is doing here in the first place. Answer simple, Our present so called strikers are not scoring goals. And before anyone says they are not getting the service, Rubbish/
I have lost count of the times Cort and his ilk, have opted to pass when a shot at goal was the better option. Scott and his board I'm sure would have liked to have selected from our own players. Sadly most have not been up too it.

Mea culpa. You're absolutely right Les. I should have added the prefix "proper" premier league clubs, i.e Man U, Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal, Spurs, Villa and, sadly now, Chelsea and Man City. Don't know how I forgot Sam Williams... class young player who took unbelievable abuse at Bournemouth for example, just like the witch-hunt vs. Murphy. Pettigrew must have been during Butcher's time which I have erased from memory. If Arsene, Harry or Martin O'Neill are prepared to send us good young players, I for one would rather see them play, any day. Come on Rhys...

Sidwell and Burgess were at priemer league clubs when on loan at GP:wave:

As was that Spurs defender who smashed Gary Smith in training:wave:
