Rhys Murphy

Rhys Murphy

I expect Rhys will get a chance before long, the formation we have played these last twp games did not require Rhys's skills.

With all these games coming up close to each other I'm sure he will play some part.

Rhys Murphy

Why do you think there is one? Because they one is in the first team at Arsenal and the other one plays for the youth team?

Arsenal youth system. Probably now the best youth system in european football. Arsenal wouldn't be wasting their time with any forward unless he possesses a very good level of technique. He had to have something to have caught their eye and for them to have faith in him. He might not make it because he doesn't continue to develop, but as I pointed out nearly a month back, Upson and Sidwell didn't quite make it at Arsenal, but they would walk into any Division One side. At least give the lad a few 20 minute run-outs, not five minutes. I am not criticising Charlie Mac, but if you have Robbie Fowler starting, does that mean you don't bother making use of Michael Owen (going back ten years, here, sorry). It's not like we're raining goals at Brentford, is it?

Rhys Murphy

An excellent cameo, replacing the knackered Strevens near the end. Chased down the Pikey defenders each time they received the ball; great defence from the front.

Yeah righty-ho. Thanks explains everything. Thanks.

p.s. Remember that chap we had from Chelsea for free???? He came from the same team as Drogba. :sorted:

Gooner here,

I rate Rhys, he is an eduardo-type striker. A poacher, in and around the box. On form he's deadly and clinical. Really good intelligence in where to run. Struggles a bit with the physical side of the game in holding the ball up and drifts too much out of games.

I figured he would struggle in league one due to the physical nature of the league. How is he doing?

Rhys Murphy

Was hard for him today, rarely got into the game and glad Cort replaced him at half time

Rhys Murphy

Looked out of his depth today - poor in my opinion.

Eduardo he isn't but we will see when he has had more chances, so far he is "a good to come off the bench" type player.

Rhys Murphy

Yep looked poor. Although he was quick to the ball, he didn't seem to cope with the general pace of the game. Couldn't hold up the ball, and fell over more times than I could care to count.

Not good I'm afraid - taken off at half time. Looked out of his depth.

Rhys Murphy

It was his full league debut and he struggled but at least had 2 shots at goal. His time will come again

Rhys Murphy

looked lost more than poor, he's used to playing a certain way at Arsenal, the wrong type of player for us. You can't say he's sh*te on one 45 minute display.

Rhys Murphy

Cheers for the update,

If you guys are looking for a central/defensive midfielder, you should take Francis Coquelin.

Seriously. The kid is going to be a monster in a couple of years.

Rhys Murphy

maybe I was being harsh calling him sh*te. His hold up play is not good enough for what we need, he is not quick enough, he needs strengthening up a bit, he tries too many fancy flicks and he did not play off his strike partner. I am sure he has the potential.... unfortunately we need him to fufil it quicker than he is likely to. I would be surprised to see him in a bees shirt again

...but when he did his attempt at goal was woeful, looked like he was caught in two minds as to whether cross it or chip the keeper.

One of those shots 'on target' ended up nowhere near the goal.

Rhys Murphy

Not physically strong enough yesterday. Sure he may develop into a decent player, but for now he should be on the bench

Drogba cost Chelsea 14 or 24 million, had nothing to do with a youth set-up, and you seriously want to make a comparison between Chelsea and Arsenal's youth system? Have you seen or read about some of Arsenal's performances in the Carling Cup over the past two seasons?

Rhys Murphy

I take a different veiw. This was the first time I have seen Rhys, this match was too big for him. The same as the Leeds match was for Bostock. It is just lack of experience, the only way you improve is by playing. It was right to give him a start, and itwas right to take him off. Arsenal do dot have sh*te, as one poster put it. Give the lad a chance.

Rhys Murphy

As previous posters have said, if he's a gooner he has to be a decent player. Yesterday playing as a lone striker was too much for him. Maybe he's not what we need right now but AS gave him a chance and when it wasn't working he changed it.....don't write him off after 45 mins in a difficult game.

Rhys Murphy

Yesterday playing as a lone striker...
What was Strevens doing, then?

He needs to be eased in, all the Premier loanees have, they're not used to the 100% action.

He's not physically strong enough to play at this level (yet). That's not writing him off, just needs sending back to youth/reserve team football and see how he develops in a years time. P.S. That's two lots of 45 minutes he's had ... he looked out of his depth against Wycombe also - he looked like a boy playing against men then too.

Rhys Murphy

Not good news about his injury, may put Arsenal off sending players here as well :(

Rhys Murphy

Obviously a rotten piece of luck and sad for a young player of such potential. I very much hope he is on the mend directly and back playing again.

All the more reason, I reckon, to keep Carl Cort, to play him as the partner to Charlie with Myles Weston and John Bostock providing the service.

Rhys Murphy

Best wishes to Rhys who I am sure has an awful lot of potential. Let's hope the injury isn't career threatening as has been suggested.

What news? where, when, what how?

EDIT - just seen the news item. So are GPG Twitter followers now the 'in crowd'? Bloody Twitter my backside.

Saw the news page, and the first thing I thought was "fantastic - that's the last player we'll be sent by Arsenal."

That's two of theirs we've managed to break already.

Rhys Murphy

How do you work that out then??

Er, probably because we've had better ones. In fact we have better ones now

But please don't grass on me to the poster who keeps harping on "If Chesney is good then just how good is some other player that train with him".

So we've all see enough of him to make a judgement then.

Am I missing something fundamental  You are questioning the asserting that he "wasn't the best loanee we have ever had"

I am suggest that the above quote is correct and he is NOT the best loanee we have ever had. If you have a different view (i.e. he IS the best loanee we have ever had) then you are fully entitled to it (and welcome to it)

It's not as though Arsenal haven't experienced injuries themselves or seen them all around the leagues. I doubt that Arsenal management are naive enough to think that Brentford has a unique injury-inducing style of football.

Rhys Murphy

Shame that we never got to see how good he was.

Hope he makes a full recovery.

Very sad news - hope the lad makes a full recovery.

Think he was a little unfortunate to come to us just as AS changed our formation to concentrate on a more defensive approach. The fact that it was a 3 month loan suggests that he was not likely to be considered a 1st teamer immediately, but rather to develop gradually into a much more physical environment.

Good luck for the future, Rhys.

Rhys Murphy

Great shame, all the best young Murphy. As the previous poster says,he was a three month loanee and not a quick fix.Maybe an agreement with the Arse was put in place to loan some of their players who are not yet fringe or regular reserve players to aid their development.I hope this hasnt put a spanner in the works,I doubt it,Wenger of all people knows about injuries to his players playing for some one else.
