Robert Rowan

To have that sort of analytical approach to the game at such a young age is very unusual. He comes across as a very clever guy. Fascinating appointment and yet further evidence of how staggeringly forward thinking we've become.

Robert Rowan

Ties in with the Moneyball approach mentioned in Calvin's Nowhere Men...

Robert Rowan

Delighted to see this - we won't be able to compete with the likes of Cardiff, Norwich, Forest financially (at least in the immediate future) so taking a Moneyball-style approach to get us punching above our weight is absolutely right. How good is it supporting Brentford right now?!

Robert Rowan

I guess he'll be on the ER terrace shouting "don't fanny about, just get it it the box" to Button, then.

Robert Rowan

I'm not really sold on stats personally....but my opinion is irrelevant!

more money is being pumped into bfc by its owner week in, week out, than cardiff, norwich and forest combined.

Robert Rowan

Very interesting appointment (have we officially appointed him or his he just looking around BFC?). Seems like someone who can really add something to the current set up and if he is that impressive perhaps there is a bit of long term succession planning in mind.

13.47% of Bees fans will be genuinely underwhelmed.

Are you stating this as a criticism or an observation . Either are incorrect in my view but you are a bit out of touch with what is really going on IMHO

Robert Rowan

Working wonders for Stenhousemuir so far this season ;)

Robert Rowan

If he is so good why hasn't MW used him yet, why bring him in if he's not ready, we can all see Andre is tired oh sorry wrong thread.

Robert Rowan

23 years old! Blimey. Fair play to him.
I hope this database he created wasn't just a saved game on Football Manager.

Robert Rowan

Robert Rowan would appear to still be at the Club, his name appears on Page Three of the Programme and on the Official Site underneath the entry for Director of Sport but above that for Head Coach. A year on from the last entry on this thread I cannot help but wonder just what his Job Description is? What is his responsibility at the Club? He is 24 years of age but would appear to have no football experience other than Statistics. His position in the list appears to indicate that perhaps the Head Coach works to him, does he? Is he responsible for the recruitment of our Summer signings? What other duties does he have at the Club? I did start a new Thread but there being one already started it was closed however I do find it strange that he has managed to stay off the 'radar' for so long and wonder if anyone has any views on him. As our two D.'s of S are part time and he would appear to be a full time employee his influence on both the Team and Club may be quite large. Has he picked up many of the Duties previously carried out by our departed 'Manager' other than actual Coaching/Team selection? Was he involved in the dismissal of Dykehousen? It does seem strange that he has managed to maintain such a low profile or perhaps I have just missed his write up in the Programme!

Robert Rowan

... what about Bob the Kitman, I'm convinced he's the real mastermind behind everything!

Robert Rowan

Yay, another thread where we can talk about stats. Much needed on the GPG!

Agreed, it was so sh*t last season, get rid of it now but if it turns out to be a good thing then I love it again.

Mmmm.. I might take that approach Northamptonbee

Yes I am aware of that, it was the position of 'Head of Football Operations' that has interested me. If he is working full time on Analysis why call it 'Operations'? To me Operations implies more of a hands on approach, an involvement in the football side of things. Hence the questions " Did he pick up any of the duties previously carried out by Warburton and does he have any supervisory role in respect of the Head Coach?

I don't really have any idea but I saw that the recruitment for the new post of Logistics Manager was seemingly being handled by Robert Rowan. That would suggest that maybe, as Head of Football Operations, he's based at the Training Ground and has responsibility for the football issues/personnel matters that may have previously fallen under the remit of the manager.

For example, who does Peter Gilham and the Logistics Manager report to? Obviously not to the Head Coach and I'd guess that Ankersen and Giles don't have line management responsibility for staff, so I'd imagine that's where this Rober Rowan character fits in?

Since his promotion in july he is now in charge of everything football related going by his new job title Head of Football Operations so he is the boss in charge of everything football related at the club ie player signings and i presume the head coach has to report to him hiring and firing, report also states he will be working along side the dof's so i presume on a equal footing with these 2 but he is here full time were dof's are only part time so able to run the football dept on a daily basis.

Perhaps we have a 24 year old 'Manager' who was responsible for the Dismissal of the Head Coach after finding that he was not following processes?

Robert Rowan

Looks like we got ourselves a whipping boy! *Punches palm* Yeee haw!!!

Do you really believe that's what happened? Really?

Robert Rowan

Not necessarily but in effect if the Head Coach works to him as Head of Football Operations then by implication he must then have a supervisory responsibility. Someone must be the Head Coach's 'Boss' and if the Directors of Sport are part time then who is? I do not have a problem if that person is Robert Rowan but it may have implications when we make another attempt to recruit a Head Coach. I should add that I am a supporter of the new way of doing things but still remain interested in attempting to unpick exactly how things are planned to work. I do believe that a lack of clarity is one of the reasons that many on here do not understand and are anti the changes.

Fair enough response. I belive the ultimate decision re Marinus would have come from DOFs/Matthew, not Robert. But your point about clarity of structure within the club is a fair one, and one I wouldn't necessarily disagree with. It's all become a little murky. But perhaps that was to be expected with such a huge change, things may just become naturally clearer with time.

Robert Rowan

So is Rowan the midfield enforcer that we need or does he play as more of a false 10 (whatever that actually is) ?

Robert Rowan

This is getting ridiculous. Mystic Meg next?

What has his age got to do with it?

Robert Rowan

It is clear that we need a Director of Sematics. This is a position of great responsibility and of extreme importance as each appointment at the club must have a title that clearly reflects his entire job description and relative position, so that he can be hung out to dry when anything goes wrong.

... and I still have visions of Bob Oteng sitting in a large chair at one end a darkened room stroking a white cat...

Misuse of capital letters, eg: Club, Programme, Coaching, Team, Duties, Manager, Summer, etc etc

To summarise you are visions about Bob Oteng's pussy.....a thought which mere Stats cannot countenance.

Robert Rowan

Please, no more analysts at the club. Too many cooks spoiling the broth comes to mind.

The cone analyst starts work next week ensuring the cones are set out in the right formation to ensure maximum confusion to all. :D
