I totally agree, none of the young players who have been released have been given any chance whatsoever. If i remember rightly they won their youth league 2 seasons running,so all of them must have been at least half decent. It seems we're not too bothered about developing younger players for a couple of seasons. I would much rather the likes of Allen-Page,Peters, Blackman,Fieldwick,Rhodes etc were given a chance to develop next season than players like Jay Smith who clearly isn't good enough !!! The smaller the squad we're going to have under MA the less chance we have of blooding youngsters. As for Blackman and Fieldwick I've heard they're on loan with no recall clauses and out of contract in the summer, so they won't be back !!!brighton bee said:im not doubting martin allens judgement but it does seem a bit harsh to get rid of basically all of these players who only came through the ranks 1 or 2 years ago after hes only been here 2 weeks. i just hope blackman and fieldwick dont go the same way(although it looks like fieldwick will)because whenever ive seen those two theyve looked very good prospects.

Boston Bee said:I think that because of MA's experiences at Barnet he knows well the League-quality players now in the Conference. And he can judge our reserve/youth players against that standard. I'd expect Martin to be looking to strengthen the squad in the summer from those player he's seen. Hungry for a chance to move up and impress, maybe we find more Powells and R*****ds.
It's a shame that Traynor etc haven't gotten a real chance. I hope that MA explained that they were going somewhere to play - if they do well, we might see them again, only with a lot more first-team experience than they would have gotten rotting in our reserves.
But I share Leicester's concerns, yes. /QUOTE]

As far as I can see there is no comment on this match on the official site (which to be fair is customary with behind closed doors friendlies) but seeing that Portsmouth gave a full report on the match on their own site including their full team sheet it would not have done any harm for Brentford to update us on the match and let us know who was playing. We could then have had a stab at guessing the players Whitbread was so enthused about.
markbfc said:We don't report on BCD games that are played away from Griffin Park as a general rule. These fixtures are mostly played at short notice, and at the home club's training ground.
Of course, when you are at the mercy of the internet, some clubs will choose to report on the game. I would venture that it would not been given house room on the Pomey site if the fixture had not been played at Fratton Park.

Mark, the measure and art of management is knowing when to "break the rules".

I thought this thread was about Bobby Traynor!
markbfc said:Correct. However, all I can say is that I have found it the best policy given the circumstances under which we currently operate at the football club.
PM me for a full explanation!
