Ron Jacobs RIP

Ron Jacobs RIP

You couldn't meet a lovelier person.

I'm very sad to hear this news.

He really was a staunch Brentford fan and always optimistic about the team's chances whenever we spoke.

He fought ill health for a while but was always down at Griffin Park when he could.

My next pint will be toasted to you, Ronnie.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Can't believe this, what a funny bloke he was. I got to know him through Brentford and then the Ealing Road Casuals where he was appointed the first manager of that club, spent many a night with him in the Bricklayers, he will be fondly remembered and my next drink I have will be raised in memory of a great characte who will be sadly missed.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Very sad, I knew him well as he used to work with my Dad many years ago, he was always good value on a long away trip!

Ron Jacobs RIP

RIP Ron.

A true legend of a Brentford supporter.

Used to see him quite a lot out and about in Hounslow, and would always stop and talk about all things BFC.

God Bless you mate and hopefully The Bees can do it this year in your memory.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Didn't know him well but He sat in the same row as me for a while and would always have a word
He gone to join the big Bees family in the sky
RIP Ron

Ron Jacobs RIP

Rip true gent. Been going to brentford for 23 years. I can remember him for 23 years!! Absoloute legend. If we go up its a bit gutting that such a bee through and through like ron will miss it. Rip ron, have a pint with bernie for us!!!

Ron Jacobs RIP

Terribly upset by this very sad news. So many stories to relate about Ron. His love of BFC and sport in general, especially boxing and cricket was enormous.
He was extremely supportive of me back in the 70's and 80's, something I will never forget.
RIP Ron. We'll never forget you.

Ron Jacobs RIP

R.I.P Ron lovely lovely man Brentford legend who loved the club so much

Summed up perfectly mate

Rip Ronnie

some fellow legends up there to knock about with .

I'm sure I knew Ron but as I am ageing names and faces never seem to match up any more ! As a thought if it is at all possible could we have some sort of page under "In Memorium" of pictyures of our great friends sadly passed away so that we can recognise them. In my fifty years of going to GP I have met many great people home and away but never really got to know all of them closely other than by first names. I would love to be able to put names to faces and feel the loss more of my fellow Bees.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Ron liked cricket. I remember in the 70s and 80s meeting up at Lords to see Middlesex play and also sink a few pints. Farewell Ron.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Very sad news indeed. We have lost one of our most loyal and fervent supporters. Ron is one of my earliest memories of supporting the Bees. A true fan and a true gent.

RIP Ronnie.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Ron was Brentford Character and Brentford Legend.

My condolences go to all Ron's family and to those who knew him

So loyal, so friendly, so knowledgeable about the Bees, non league football, boxing and cricket.

Ronnie is probably the only Bees fan I know that had his own song “Oh Ronnie Ronnie, Ronnie Ronnie, Ronnie Jacobs”

No doubt this song will echo from the stands at Shrewsbury on Saturday and in the Paddock when we play Crawley

Ron Jacobs RIP

Very sad news indeed, I like others have known Ron for many years through both Bees and Sunday league football where as cheshirebee says he would encourage right to the last minute even if we were getting beat. Every Sunday you could guarantee at least one supporter, Ron, with his walking newsagents under his arm or in a carrier bag when it was raining.
Someone said about his liking for Bolton, true, I don't think there was any particular reason but I do remember going to Forest (the season before we played them in the cup) and Luton with Ron to watch Bolton play!
As has been said Ron loved his boxing and he and Jersey Joe used to regularly go to York Hall etc after a Bees match.
Some great away train trips, some of which I remember the return journey.....just!
Last time I saw Ron was at Stevenage last season in their clubhouse, the highlight of the evening.
Ron, RIP, I am so glad to have known you as you were both a character and a gent, God Bless.

As someone else has said if anyone hears about funeral arrangements please post here or better still PM me.

Ron Jacobs RIP

As soon as funeral arrangements are made details will be posted. As so many of you have noted Brentford was Ron's life. He was uncompromising in his lifestyle, his love of BFC and football in general was legendary, as was his love of a pint with mates. His encyclopedic knowledge of boxing and cricket was equally staggering. I am a richer person for knowing him not just as a Bees fan but a human being. He would buy my children Xmas presents every year even if he was struggling himself, and was genuinely incredulous to receive anything in return. Brentford FC was his family, his love. Brentford fans will take care of his affairs, I don't think he would have wanted it any other way.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Another true Brentford legend gone, seems so unfair after his unwavering support over so many unsuccessful years when the club is at last going in the right direction. I will never forget the ubiquitous and unmistakeable sight of Ron, newspapers jammed in his jacket pocket, cheerfully heading for the nearest betting shop or pub at so many away grounds since I started going in the 60's. RIP Ron

Ron Jacobs RIP

Yes - Stan and Ron go back many years.

SO sorry to hear this, Ron for me was a gentleman, I remember him from years ago when I was about 18. Not seen much of him in recent years. RIP old friend.

just seen this sad news....RIP Ron

Just to echo other posts...Ron was a complete one-off. The word 'character' dose'nt even scratch the surface.

I knew him for many years, both through Brentford and being co-founder of Ealing Road Casuals, he was our first manager. He took it very seriously, as he took all his interests. His knowledge and enthusiasm of a wide range of football, boxing and cricket shone out.

I shared my last few beers with him a couple of years ago in the Earl Haig in Hounslow West. Ron was not in good health for some time, but, surrounded by the Sunday papers, he held forth as always.

Many anecdotes spring to mind but perhaps they should be mentioned on another day. I just hope he's met up with Tony Ross and they're setting the world to rights as usual.

Many condolences to family-miss you mate

Ron Jacobs RIP

Ron was one of those guys that was at every game i have ever been to. I first spoke to him at Bradford in the early eighties and saw him everywhere after that. I used to see him around with John Matthews, another face i havent seen for years.

My abiding memory of Ron is when he was on the door of the Bees club. He always wore a dark suit white shirt and tie undone with two newspapers protruding from the jacket pockets.Lovely memories of a great Brentford supporter.

Rhino, you make a really good point.

Although I've not really spent much time with Ron in recent years, my recollection is that he didnt really have any family to speak of.

Do you know how his funeral arrangements are being taken care of ? Would hate to think that it's not done properly.

As you suggest, I'm sure many Bees on this thread (myself included) would contribute if anything was needed to make sure he had a dignified send off.

Ron Jacobs RIP

I was fortunate enough to work at thorn Emi in Feltham with Ron many years ago and spent many an hour sloping out of my office to talk bees, cricket and boxing. A true gent and always give you the time if day. RIP mate...I can hear a booming voice shouting at you at the pearly gates "who's your favourite football team".

I only knew Ron to say hello to in the brickies as a fellow bee, but am happy to help if I can.

Really interesting reading everyone's memories of Ron Jacobs.

I had seen him around at various football and Non-League football matches over the years but i only really started to get to know him a couple of years ago when i started speaking to him at Hanwell Town FC and Southall FC games i would make sure he had all the players names and a team sheet at Hanwell Town games and he would have all his papers with him a pint and a cheese roll and he was happy (Ron was a vegetarian). Ron started to come and watch Hanwell Town play more over the last few years as it was easier for him to get when he moved to Brentford a couple of years ago. As i said in a earlier post he was a big Southall FC supporter so he was very happy that Southall started ground sharing with Hanwell Town three seasons ago. I used to get the 297 bus back to Ealing with him some times after Hanwell Town or Southall games and we would chat football non stop on the bus we must have drove the other passengers mad as Ron didn't have very good hearing so i had to speak loud to him at times and then he would get the E2 bus back to Brentford. I would also pop into the Princess Royal pub some times after Brentford FC games and give Ron football programes that i had got at various Non-League football games i had been too since i last saw him he loved his football programes as most of you will know.

Im going to miss the guy :-(

Ron Jacobs RIP

Have only just read this very sad news.

I'm proud to say that Ron Jacobs has been a very good mate of mine for the last 40 years. As well as following Brentford together, we spent many days together supping ale in front the Tavern Bar at Lords Cricket Ground throughout the 1970s. We even missed that 6-4 win at Crewe as Middlesex were busy beating Glamorgan in the final of the Gillette Cup on that day.

Ron's love of sport knew few bounds. Football at Brentford, Hounslow Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Hanwell Town and a host of Sunday League teams. Cricket at Middlesex CCC and also Ealing CC. The latest editions of Boxing News and Racing Post always accompanied the newspapers under his arm.

Our Ron was never the luckiest of men. I recall travelling by train with him to one evening match at Stockport during the 70s. A group of us, including Ron, played cards on the way up. As we neared Stockport, Ron jumped to his feet having lost out on a good-sized winners pot. To add to Ron's annoyance, his fly zip broke and he had to walk from the station with his newspapers strategically positioned.

We entered a pub and Ron asked the barmaid for a safety pin. Pin in hand, Ron headed towards the toilets where he stood behind the door trying to join the two sides of the fly together with the pin. Suddenly, a howl of pain let out as somebody barged open the toilet door and bashed in to Ron. I will leave it to you to imagine what had happened.

Ron's health has not been too great for the last few years and this sad news is not, perhaps, unexpected.

God bless you, Ron. It has been a pleasure to have known you. RIP you true legend.

I remember speaking to the Southall FC chairman at a Southall game last season and getting Ron a Southall FC pin badge Ron wanted to pay for it but the Southall FC Chairman wouldn't have any of it and kindly gave the badge to Ron for free Ron was made up. He always wore his Brentford FC badge where ever he went.

They don't make them like Ron Jacobs anymore.

Does anyone know who is actually dealing with the arrangements? And if not how we can find out.Seems there's a genuine feeling that RJ gets a send off he deserves.

Ron Jacobs RIP

Can't say I knew him myself but he was clearly regarded highly by those who did.

RIP and condolences to those who knew him.

Johnny m I think we need to find out whos looking after the funeral arrangements ie where he died which hospital?, which undertakers are looking after the arrangements ??? maybe someone in the princess royal might have an idea ?? seems a very awkward situation wanting to help but not knowing which way to turn obviously if people want to help we need a central point to help Ron lay to rest with a fitting service maybe a lay preacher???

Ron Jacobs RIP

A few of his friends are meeting tonight in the Princess Royal to discuss matters, as soon as further details are available I'll let everyone know. I'm not sure I can give peoples names or details until I've spoken to them. Rest assured that whatever happens I'll make sure everyone is kept informed.
