Seem to remember GD saying Brentford could be the West Ham of West London, well we are not even the Dag & Red. of West London, perhaps we should now start to align ourselves with the likes of Ebbsfleet, if the worst should happen and the dreaded R word is the result, how would we manage as we are stuck with most of the players on 2 year deals, and break even gates are said to be 4250, it would be interesting trying to achieve these attendances in the conference.

If only!!

On an average gate of 4250 the forecast loss is around £500k per season.

With our present playing budget the breakeven average attendance is around 6,000 assuming an average ticket price of £12. We had less that 3,700 for a local Derby on Tuesday.

Sack Butcher

Why?, because he was moved to centre forward about 30 seconds before they scored?

I suggest you buy the tape and watch it for yourself.
Mr Thorpe was playing centre half and got beaten to the ball by McNeil in the air. Ball was knocked on and the other Stockport forward scored from it.
If only we had someone like McNeil to play upfront, alongside Ide

Sack Butcher

Why sack TB, who is going to come in and change things around??

In my mind there are a lot of problems at GP at the moment and the majority are not coaches or players at the club, plenty to sack but not the team manager

We will not go down this season, but we have to halt the slide that is bringing the club to conference side standards off the park and soon

Sack Butcher

We probably won't be relegated but we are facing a double whammy on the finances. As Abee stated earlier " on an average gate of 4250 the forecast loss is around £500k per season " and l am assuming the asset value of GP has peaked and is now falling. l guess the Brentford finance hat trick would be complete if it were Northern R

You're all talking b.....Look at bradford city where I live. Good manager, well liked and 15000 gates, yet worse start than ours. Its far too early to judge our progress, our away record is good. In fact would be unbeaten if not for the worst ref. decision in memory (excl. Maradonna). With both CB injured Thorpe was obv. choice in that position. Our side is not that bad and will improve as will our position. Have some faith you pessimistic lot.

Thanks for the debate. But TB chose the players ( poor and injured, and often both), is responsible for tactics and motivation........I agree we have those players for 2 years but are you really telling me that MA would not improve them in 90 minutes? Really.........
I am a Bees fan of 45 years, home and away, and yet I am losing interest. I bring family, friends etc and have 4 season tickets ( which realistically get used rarely all 4). I find the style awful, the effort lacking............

Now is certainly not the time to panic - as one of the earlier posts mentioned we're only 3 points off the playoffs, 5 above relegation, we've beaten teams above us, we've started to clear out the dross that got us relegated, we've hardly had a settled side due to injuries and suspensions, so all in all we've not done that badly. The table will only start to take shape after 17-18 games, and although we've not had the best in performances, the results aren't bad for the players we've been able to put out in the first 9 games particularly when a number of those are new pro's with very little experience.

Also, some of the players that have come in look like they are of the level of the league we are playing in:- Brown, Pead, Mackie, Smith, Thorpe, Shakes and Poole are not significantly better or worse than many of those players we come up against which, given time and a few additions (particularly at the back) might be a decent side in a season or two.

Members of the board don't necessarilly know a lot about football (I think KD may have said as much during the ill-fated manager search), and so to make the 'promotion budget' statement has kind of tied the managers hands. This has to been seen as a long term managerial appointment, and as such TB and AS are in a much more informed position to make those sorts of judgements on what league position the current squad may or may not be realistically challenging for.

Got stuck in traffic last week coming back from Birmingham and put on Radio Oxford to listen to the live game. Oxford v Salisbury I think, cant remember just wanted to get home. What did catch my attention was that according to the commentators Oxford were a club in crisis, had lost to some semi-pro outfit the week before and they couldnt stop refering to the many player issues etc. at the club. Tonight was going to be a bad crowd, awful in fact, what with the M40 shut from Junction 10 and the fans losing patience....... as the game went on and I still sat in traffic they announced that nights paltry attendance........ 4200 plus! I remember the commentator saying "Every season we think we have bottomed out and then it gets worse!"

Not a totally fair comparisson I know, but if they are struggling with that support in the conference, it scares the hell out of me!

The other thing that surprised me was that they were playing some sort of wingback system with Steddy Eddie H and a couple of others in the middle. Maybe my lack of football knowledge is showing here, but why are people complicating the game so much at the lower levels today? Is it a coincidence that fans seem to spend more time working out what formation it is that we are playing rather than the quality of what we play?

Also do we have the quality of players to keep swapping and changing so much? I know the glorious game is moving on and becoming more tactical by the week, but it still takes a certain level of skill to adapt and understand the many changes. I think TB and AS are trying to be to clever at this stage and need to keep it simple, let other teams change, adapt your marking and keep your basic shape. Unfortunately I think that is 442 with the team we have, but i would be quite happy for it to be consistent.

I dont think sacking is the answer at this stage, but some back to basics is.

out of interest is there an abee law of business that states "if you buy sh*t players, you get sh*t results" ?

I believe (among many others) that our initial signings this season were piss poor. So far none of those signings has lit my fire. To name names, Brown, Mackie, Poole, Thorpe, Connell, Pead.
In fact I would hazard a guess that between them they have made less than half the total appearances that they COULD have done IF selected for every game played? Now some may use that as an excuse as to why we are so poor and inconsistent whereas I prefer to suggest that in the main these players will be forgotten by the majority of Bees fans by 2009 , they being so poor!
If I am right about the standard of ability of this collective group of players and their ability to collectively or individually improve our results, would it be fair to ask for some responsibility to be taken by the individual or collective group responsible for bringing them to our club?

PS I know why we have to sign sh*t players, but I ´kin hate it when I am told that they are to be the backbone of our team and the rocks upon which our new foundations will be built!

You can't expect to always win headers, but Pettigrew playing him onside was at fault.

We are heading to the conference. We have the worst set of players in 45 years of watching bees. The smallest crowds. We need leadership. There are so many good managers in the conference that it seems a stupid decision to employ him. Lets list a few who would consider GP- Mark Stimson, Jim Harvey......

Thanks for the debate. But TB chose the players ( poor and injured, and often both), is responsible for tactics and motivation........I agree we have those players for 2 years but are you really telling me that MA would not improve them in 90 minutes? Really.........

Your contribution (S/T wise) is immense, but you are a disgrace, calling for a manager's head after 9 games, it's bad...but we are not bottom and certainly not doomed to failure....

We have cleared this up now..I was thinking of the dagenham game.

a lot of people are saying we are only 3 points of the playoff places, so what!! I have been watching now for 50 years the last two home games have been pathetic some of the worst defending I have seen the midfield is lightweight the forward line has no punch. This smacks of last season we were in the playoffs after 8 games and finished bottom. Does anyone know what happened to the 250k Dyke said he would give to Butcher? Nearly everyteam we play have 4 or 5 6ft plus players, I'm afraid this division is built on that type of player.

What happened to the football at the beginning of the season when we were pinging the ball about from left to right back??

I sit near the dug out and Butcher and Co didn't know what to do when we went 2-0 down.

Dyke said no such thing.....Dyke has never said he would fund the club. He is a chairman, not a sugar daddy.....

Why didnt you lean over and offer them your advice...seeing as they are apparently clueless ?

What Dyke mistakingly said was, there was an extra £250 available for TB.
he announced this around May time, I seem to remember.
It raised a few eyebrows then, and indeed it was a false dawn.

He was wrong.
The deal did not happen, but whatever money was promised, it was never going to be coming from Dyke.

Right !

thats it...I've decided, as a voice of positivity, to clamp down on foolishness today...

BUTCHER CAN'T FKIN RUN, HE'S GOT DODGY KNEES !!!!

As for not being "shouty"....
Who is considered the better manager...Steve Coppell or Neil Warnock ?

Well said Smiffy old son oh and Mr Warnock is not a manager at present lol lol

We are not one of the two worst teams in this division.

But we might be the other one.

Thanks for that I didnt mean Dyke was personally going to give TB the money dosen't matter at least someone else remembered the 250k figure

Against Wycombe Poole struggled against a good right midfielder who eventually won the penalty. From the first five minutes it was clear it was a situation that needed addressing. Butcher did nothing.

The MK Dons left back was the source of 90% of their attacks. Our players couldn't deal with it. Clearly a need for some management intervention on the tactical front. Butcher did nothing.

Against Stockport Sammy Moore was dropping deep picking the ball up from our CB's. Playing pretty much as a holding midfielder. We were 3-0 down for ch**st sake. He's probably our most creative player. He won't hurt the opposition from the half way line. Either Butcher didn't notice or was happy with it.

Dagenham clearly had two decent players on their left side. Starosta had his work cut out dealing with them. It's not Charlie Ide's game to play a defensive role as such we were somewhat exposed. Butcher then takes off our right back and replaces him with Pead. Easy to see which side Dagenham would concentrate on in the second half. Two goals later........This of course could be excused if Starosta was injured. He didn't look it to me. Haven't seen anything written about this substitution either. I know Pead is familiar with the right back role but to throw him in the deep end was asking a bit much.

There are always times during games when the players are struggling to gain the initiative. That's the time when the manager earns his money.

At the Dagenham game the arguments among our players were becoming serious. The players appear to be lacking ideas and direction.

If our Managers name was Bill Bloggs and not Terry Butcher ex England captain would people still be showing blind faith? No doubt many of us assume he's tactically astute. Have we really seen any evidence of it?

This is serious, the fact that we are under a quarter of the way through the season means for now time is on our side. The situation feels no different to me now than it did last season. OK we are in a difficult situation re removing the manager as such he should have a few more games to turn it around but as each week goes by the conference gets closer. Dropping from LG 1 to 2 didn't feel disastrous. Dropping to the conference is

A win of any sort tomorrow would be a welcome relief.

What is the point in sacking Butcher/Scott at this stage of the season. It has been a poor start and mistakes have been made but we went down this road last season Hiring and firing Rosenior followed by the cheap option of Fitzgerald. We still went down played crap and now have a complete set of new players settling in. if we get rid of Butcher a new manager would have the same players until January at least, have no money to bring anyone better in and get slagged off and sacked for the poor position we are in. Dyke said we were after a manager with experience at this level then appointed Butcher, Greg Dyke, who appointed Rosenior, Fitzgerald and Butcher and has not invested in the club is the cancer that inflicts the club and is the reason we are where we are. Championship Football?? Your Having a Laugh, unfortunately at the Fans expense.

Sack Butcher

The point is that it is better to admit your mistake now than when we are in the conference. Two facts stand out. firstly no-one wants to watch the current team 3.500 vs dagenham will become the norm. Secondly, the players are getting worse. The loan players are dispiritied and unless I am blind not a patch on how they were 5 games ago. The common denominator TB. I agree that it is ridiculour to sack another manager but not half as ridiculous to employ 3 such poor choices.

As said at the start here he should go. The players were a disgrace today at hereford. No effort. No skill. TB managed to make things even worse with his substitutions. Can someone on here who does not think ~TB should be sacked now please try and explain to me how a substituion taking off connell and in effect replacing him with Heywood up front might be the best option???
