Sam Saunders
Congratulations Sam looks like you are the new GPG scapegoat. Don't worry though, most of the previous holders of this revered title have done well.

He is a confidence player who thrives on getting games under his belt. The problem is that the likes of Harry, Adam and to some extent Toumani and Douglas are keeping him out of the team.
I still think Saunders has a part to play over the course of the season once suspensions, injuries and/or general fitness take their toll
Proved himself before and have no doubt he will again. We know his game is not based upon pace but generally speaking would never fault him for effort, even if not always productive.
He has a lot of competition in front of him and perhaps would benefit from a few games in the dev squad to get his game back on song
As others have said it is a long winter and injuries, suspensions and dips in form will necessitate Sam being called upon
To write him off at this juncture seems somewhat ridiculous unless he is sold and the money reinvested on better. Don't forget the likes of Sheffield were interested and speaking to a Stevenage supporter they would bite our hands off to get him!!!
I can't envisage a situation where he might be selected through choice in any of the midfield positions -
Can you remember the last time he was selected through choice..... oh yeah..... 2 days ago.
I would say he is a 6th choice midfielder now. I can't envisage a situation where he might be selected through choice in any of the midfield positions - I don't see the point in keeping a well paid 29 year old in those circumstances.
scape·goat [skeyp-goht]
noun
1.
a person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.
Can someone point me towards the posts that cast Sam as a scapegoat please?

I've always been a big fan of Sam - still am. I don't know him but I feel that a) he needs to be wanted; and b) he needs to have good run in the side, to be at his best.
There were games last season where he was outstanding. I hope he gets the opportunity to re-discover his form.
Agree Sam has shone at times and is still a useful squad player. But in the recent run of games you could argue that Forshaw and Forrester have been or close to being outstanding. These two look capable of playing at the level we want to get to (Championship) so it's no surprise to seem them ahead of Sam in the pecking order.
If they stay in form then it'll be a while before Sam is starting for us. Only injuries or suspensions will give him a chance. So as Les said he'll be a squad player at best and may hanker after a move away and regular football.

Yes, my point is that I would rather see a younger player in that situation who might bust a gut to improve rather than a seasoned professional who is likely to get frustrated (and unhappy) or worse, hang on and let his contract run down. We have seen both and neither are good situations. That's why I said it might be best for both parties.
If Sam wants to go then fair enough, but I don't think that would be benefical to Brentford. Also your being a bit presumptious (sp?) there as Sam has worked hard to get into the team having been frozen out in the past, so maybe he will do it again. He looked superb in the JPT game and when he was injured I believe he was on beesworld, which demonstrates a fantastic attitude.
He has been unlucky not to be in the starting 11 this season (albeit partially down to injury) and I think he will work hard again. I don't think anyone would have noticed that he had a poor game on Saturday if he hadn't featured so little previously as lets face it Forresster was annoymous on Saturday but because he's been on fire it's just labelled a bad game.

There is only one ''s'' in Forrester. Thought I'd tell you before SmiffyBee had a go at ya,lol.
he's banned isn't he from the gpg?
Why has he been unlucky?Didnt go Saturday but most who did said Harry had a bad game and got hooked so what how many bad games has he had?Sam is not in Forresters class IMHO not that bothered if he left in order for us to release some funds for another striker as we still have a young talent in Dallas waiting in the wings. Not making Sam a scapegoat though whatever that was all about
Unlucky not to get game time, because he got injured at the start of the season and that Uwe has decided to play Forshaw on the right in his absence, I'm certain Sam would have started reguarily if it wasn't for that injury.
Whatever for?
In place of who?
I would like to think he would have been on the right, with Douglas and Foreshaw in the middle next to Forrester on the left, if we had two upfront.
For the games where we had five in the middle it would have been Saunders Douglas Foreshaw and Forrester with one of Adeyemi or Toumani.
So it would have been for Toumani at the start of the season - and we MAY not have signed Adeyemi.
Fair point but and only seen Sam playing in a 5 with Forrester working and that was away at Preston last season. As like most on here agree we need to have 2 upfront home and away and in a 442 so can't see many starting opportunities for him even with Adeyemi out
Played well when he came on tonight
.............yep,did well when he came on .............onwards and upwards...............
I thought he had a decent game. Not as direct as Forrester or Dallas but kept the ball well and brought others into the game.
Very poor last night, I think he knows his time at gp is rapidly coming to an end
