Sam Saunders

I didn't think he was on a trigger based deal??

He's on a year plus one year option deal, whether its appearance related I'm not sure, maybe abee or BeeH can shed some light, if possible.

I recall it being appearance related, maybe something like 20 starts. I'm sure when he signed he said he backed himself to get the number of appearances to get the extension.

Sam Saunders

I don't think i would be bothered either way if he signed or left - guess it depends on where we are next season.

Sam Saunders

.................well played Sam...............have been on the fellas back in the past but is taking his chances of pitch time welll recently..............

Sam Saunders

Fantastic tonight when he came on well played sammy. In fact he's looked good for a few games now. Great delivery tonight unlucky not to score twice.

Sam Saunders

Dont know how he did it but the whole game changed after he came on. Sam is not one of my favourite player's but credit where credits due. Well played Sam.

Sam Saunders

It seems only yesterday that people were saying Saunders was surplus to requirements and could be quietly put out to grass at another club, having no further role to play at GP.

It was only yesterday.

Sam Saunders

Massive credit to Sam. I thought the substitution was wrong at the time but he completely changed the game with a willingness to get the ball down and play and the desire to put himself about. A really professional cameo.

Sam Saunders

Didn't think bringing him on for Dallas was a smart move but boy did it pay off, great work Sam.

Sam Saunders

He brings something different to the team and people need to remember that,Yes we all know he has little pace and cannot skin a man but what he did display tonight was a willingness to succeed and he done it.He had the courage to stand up take and the penalty and was so unlucky with the free kick hitting the bar.His passing was excellent and i hope this is the start of good things for him after being out the side for so long.

Sam Saunders

EGG ON MY FACE when sam came on as sub as i said what else can he do other than free kicks ??? say no more

Sam Saunders

Changed our game. Scored a pen and nearly scored from a terrific free kick. A good player to have on the bench. :)

Sam Saunders

Brilliant tonight. Great pen and free kick, but it was his ability to keep the ball that really shone through.

He showed tonight why in the absence of Forrester he shouldn't be on the bench but on the field from the start. He has experience and guile whhich is sadly lacking at times.

Sam Saunders

Agree that we should persevere with Sam. When he plays well, we play well.

Sam Saunders

Game changing sub, came on and showed a real desire and the willingness to win. Got stuck in and was a real pain for the Swindon defence. Great pen and unlucky with the free kick

We all know he has no pace but he does have a footballing brain and as he gets older that thinking keeps him as a genuine option. He scurried all over the pitch and tried to close Swimdon down. Was more effective in his 30 mins than most in their 90 mins

So who gets dropped now? People were screaming for Dallas, now it's get Sam in the side, he's a good replacement...... Leave it at that.

Sam Saunders

Sam is better when the play has broken down - last 20 minutes is fine but in the first 20 minutes he's too easy to play against imo. He was excellent tonight when he came on but - again, imo - it was BWP for Trotta that made the difference. The whole tempo lifted.

Sam Saunders

Sam played very well. Best player last season and he showing his worth now with some important goals. Dallas is the one we should stick with, Saunders proper replacement.

Not me, I've stuck up for Sam and feel he's been unlucky not to feature more often this season!

Tremendous player, who is capable of being a useful squad player in the championship, should we make it, and if we don't will be a very valuable asset in this division!

I would bring in Saunders for Dallas.

Nothing against Dallas but from what i've seen of Dallas (which isn't much Shrewsbury (A), Scunny (H) and today) he has made a far bigger impact as a sub (although I read he was good at Carlisle) and the pace he injects into the side, could really be useful against tired legs.

Sam Saunders

Showed composure on the ball and gave the team an outlet. Without doubt one of the best dead ball specialists at the club.
The substitution showed that an old wise head can be beneficial sometimes.

WELL DONE SAM!!!!!!!!!!

Sam Saunders

Sam's a quality player....we knew that from last season. Yes I know he probably isn't good enough for the Championship, but he has a hell of a lot to offer at this level sometimes, and he proved his worth tonight. I wish him all the best for our run in.

My Swindon mate in the away end said he went 'Wheeeeey' for his free kick, only for it to dip and hit the bar. He also said that proved how good he can be. Saunders is incredibly useful, we should remember that even if he's not quite right for it week in week out this season.

Sam Saunders

Last night was an example of where experience triumphed over youth, cannot be unestimated. We need to get this balance right for the final run in. It also shows me that the likes of Reeves, Dallas etc are all good prospects but there is a place and time to play them, not in games like this.

IMO Sam is at his best at the head of a diamond formation but we have ditched that now. He lacks pace which is a disadvantage [ obviously] if you play wide but it didn't matter last night.

Spot on Mr Pipe, he's now being used sparingly as he should be, and last nights cameo proved that, a fantastic performance that lifted the whole team, and that's why we won, when we gain promotion I think he still has a role to play, let's not be hasty in letting him go, you're right, he does have a footballing brain, lets make use of it.

Sam Saunders

Sam Saunders..............villian to hero in 10 minutes................it can only be the GPG

yes. piece in the chron on discussions in the next two weeks with the management on next season.

i like him but if we go up it may do his chances of a contract harm. very decent division one player in my book. good bloke too.

Sam Saunders

He did well Tuesday but personally I don't think we should offer him an extension

Sam Saunders

I've never been a great Sam fan tbh but there is no underestimating the role he played in Tuesday nights win. Sam has no pace, won't win anything in the air or tackle on the other hand he is capable of fantastic free kicks and is an intelligent player who can pick a pass. Offensively he gives us something defensively gives us little.

He has a good attitude and does give 100%. He has had many trials and tribulations under AS and Uwe and periods of favour and periods where he's struggled to even make the squad let alone starting XI yet he has applied himself worked hard an on occasion made a telling contribution. It may well be that given an extra bit of time and the calibre of opposition in the Championship that he is worth keeping on should we be promoted...bit of a conundrum for Uwe.

Will probably get a start on Saturday- and deservedly so after his cameo on Tuesday so let's see how he performs. Long term you would see Dallas as having far more potential than Sam but Uwe might think he is worth a years extension.

Sam Saunders

Hope he stays. Has always risen to the occasion despite long periods on the bench under both AS and UR. Deserves a chance even in the Championship.

Hypa with all due respect if it was your money would you give Sam a contract in The Championship when he isn't good enough to play regularly?
Love Sam, good attitude, both of my daughters love him and he's been a good servant but it's a business and I hope he gets us up and then earns himself a 3 year deal at a club in League 1.

Sam Saunders

Sam Saunders seems a similar situation to when we had Glenn Poole. A reliable, and sometimes spectacular midfield goalscorer. I couldn't understand why Poole was suddenly dropped after what I thought was an excellent season when he scored something like 14 goals. Same thing this year with Sam. I guess the quality in the squad has just gone up a notch, and maybe the tactics with only one up top and no forwards that are that decent in the air (like Alexander was last season) don't play to his strengths. I think he's worth another contract, but if he doesn't get it, I hope the same fate as Poole doesn't await him.

Bugger!! beat me to it. If we don't go up probably worth a one year contract. If we go up I really don't feel he would feature at all which wouldn't be good for the club or Sam so I would hope he gets a good deal with another L1 club. Like the lad he does give 100%.

We're not playing the diamond formation which seemed to benefit Sam if nobody else and you're right the standard of midfield player has improved.
Sam is a clever footballer but isn't big enough, quick enough or strong enough to cut it at a higher level. He would be snapped up several league 1 clubs if we released him.

Sam Saunders

I would offer him a one year deal he is one if the more experienced players and always gives everything when he plays .. Showed balls to take the penalty on Tuesday..we need to keep players that want to be brentford .. Trotta will be long gone after end of the season

Pity he won't bee gone before, especially if Farid fit for the run in.

Sam Saunders

Huge credit to Sam. To smash home not one but two pressure penalties in a week shows real bottle (and technique). Well done that man.

Sam Saunders

Proving a few of us, me included, wrong at the moment.

Sam Saunders

Played well, thought he was tiring and expected him to come off and not Tom, credit to him though, kept going, a good free kick and then that penalty which he won himself....

Sam Saunders

I think he'll have to play every game now, in case we get any more pens. Or maybe he could just come off the bench to take them.

Sam Saunders

after that last min winner that now sets us up for an automatic push i couldnt care less if hes given a five year contract, top effort by him over the full 90min and you can tell how much he cares about that result and our club, always gives his all and i couldnt be happier for him. rosler seemed to be quite happy with him at the end as well :bound::sorted:
