Revealing stat on Sky today was that 65% of Charlton's goals was in friendlies whereas less than 25% of Rooney's have been. His record in competitive games is seemingly better then.

Rooney is England's top scorer in competitive fixtures - 27 goals.

Not sure if Sky, or whoever compiled the stats. count the Home Nations championship as competitive though.

Thought Chambers was really poor over the 2 recent games. He gave the balll away numerous times and got himself in some poor defensive positions against opponents who weren't really a threat. Was Gibbs injured last night because if not I don't understand why he played Thursday and then Baines came back in last night. Baines has gone backwards from the player he was 12 months ago.

Henderson doesn't get involved enough, he just doesn't impose his presence on any game I have seen him play.

As for Rooney, I like him because he is one player who really shows he cares about playing for England. His scoring record stacks up but there were times yesterday when he looked like Paul Hayes on acid. His first touch was shocking on a couple of occasions and over the 2 games he must have missed at least half a dozen fairly simple chances. Having said that I'd still pick him!

Not in final stages of major competitions - Charltons goals won us a World Cup semi final !

A semi final we didn't need to qualify to get to. A tournament also of only 16 teams back then too. We were lucky to get out of the group stage only progressed once Ramsey did away with wingers.
Even in a poor WC this year in which England scored two goals Rooney made one and scored the other. He is nowhere near the class that the media hyped him up as, but he is still our best chance of a goalscorer.

His scoring stacks up because he's played in so many "competitive" games, i.e. qualifyers against poop oppo - how many of them have come in the final stages a major knock out tournament?

So you're actually attempting to belittle Sir Bobby Charlton and England's efforts in 1966.
You need to take a long hard look at yourself you silly person you.

Rooney is everything wrong with football nowadays.

World class at late teens. Moved too soon. Too much money too soon. And now? Is 35% of the player he was in 2004/05.

Yesterday he was terrible. Besides the free kick he literally made mistake after mistake. A literal 1/10 performance.

This England team is embarrassingly poor.

We need to limit the amount of foreigners in the premiership. Max 5 in the 11.

But they won't do that. It'd upset sky.

It's a shame. Money has ruined football.

Cricket is slowly getting there too

Ah well. Tiddlywinks it is.

Agreed. Hate SKY!
Cricket needs to be very careful as Sport England are very close to pulling the plug on their ECB funding!

Yeah, he cares so much he showed up at the last Euro's with a beer gut and big floppy boobs. Couldn't be arsed to keep himself fit during that period he was suspended.
Should have never been included in an England squad again....

No it isn't. He was fat and apallingly unfit.

and scored the goal to get us into quarter final.

where did you see his " big floppy boobs " btw ?

Can we stop talking about Wayne Rooney and big floppy boobs please. I read the GPG to get away from the wife, not to have constant reminders. :(
