short term striker problem

Can't we get a premier/championship youngster in on loan like we did with young mr Rhodes?.Surely we have the resources now????

short term striker problem

I think we need 2 or 3 and a few creative central/attacking midfielders:sorted:

short term striker problem

Guess we let him go knowing the Nicky and Cort were both going to be out for a while still? :(

Yes thats right, AS thought he would hinder us on purpose.

Or , he thought he wasn't good enough

In preseason I was fully expecting a young loanee striker to be part of the mix. Hopefully AS is investigating this.

I don't think we need another player, we can manage with what we got. However plays up front at the moment is going to feed on scraps until we have someone in midfield who can actually create something. Play 5 in midfield if we are short or bring in Wood and push Weston up front.

Dont massively like him but that Liam Dickinson bloke who Brighton had appears to have dropped down the pecking order at Barnsley who paid £150k for him in the summer, but have just loaned in Garry O'Connor and Chris Wood.

He's not prolific but got 3 in 9 for Posh in the championship at end of last season.

No good if the strikers aren't getting no service from the midfield, thats your problem

short term striker problem

You can have Eddie Johnson. And David Elm. That would solve all our problems!

short term striker problem

**** the strikers bring in someone who can pass forward

short term striker problem

WE have plenty of strikers as others have said we need some central midfield players who can pass the ball forwards

I know...we'll get a centre forward in................and play him on the right wing

Simpson is a quality striker. No need to bring in anyone else just pick him when he's fit.

I think the challenge is that almost everyone will be looking to loan in a striker who can pop in loads of goals. We have an ageing and injury-prone strike-force whose experience should have delivered some goals; this has not happened. Creativity, left, right and centre is needed, we have not created enough opportunities from anywhere.

If you mean Simpson well that worked out ****ing well then didn't it.

for the short term, we should ask about that young lad from arsenal who's banged in a load of goals at every level for them and england - afobe i think his name is. if wickham can do it for ipswich in the championship at 16, why not a 17 year old in league 1?

a potential gamble but worth asking about at least, imo.

short term striker problem

dont forget that wickham is very strong physically already which I think helps.

I know Afobe is a six footer but dont know how ready he would be for the physical side of the game - its somethink Bostock is still learning for example.

We might discover we don't have a striker problem at all if we were to give the present incumbents some decent service.

Spot on , doesnt matter who we have up front they wont get any service from our crab like midfield. A creative central midfielder is a must ( I think ive mentioned this a couple of time before :D ) or we will always struggle for goals.

with weston, adams, simpson we have quality wingers???
why shouldn't our "strikers" get service?.
A quality strker would score goals in our team i believe.

We do have decent wingers but sometimes this doesn't work using wingers as our only supply as teams are wise to this and double up on our wingers or centre halfs deal with the crosses.
We need other options players breaking forward from midfield to score or midfield players making passes to play our strikers in.
In my opinion we need a complete new central midfield to give us the options to break down the opposition as our midfield can only pass the ball backwards and sideways.

Actually what we need is for Weston to lift his head before crossing instead of just wrapping his foot around the ball and hoping. He over hits far too many crosses which is great if Simpson is playing as he comes in off the wing behind the front two. But since he has been out we have stopped scoring.
Also Charlie is prone to getting into the box too early when he should be holding his run a bit if the ball is coming in from the left. You cant anticipate where Weston is going to put the ball so you have to time your run from a deeper position. (Years ago Chelsea had the same problem with Le Saux who had spent time playing with Shearer and Sutton with one going near post and the other far post and banging in 50 odd goals between them. Chelsea were playing with Casiraghi and Zola and every time Le saux crossed it would as sure as eggs is eggs miss the fantastic run Casiraghi had made whilst Zola was coming in over the penalty box with late runs also missed the ball. )
Simpson is not a winger but puts the ball in the right place but again not quickly enough so his crosses by pass McDonalds early run.
My bet is that AS will take a look at Simpson and Alexander up top as soon as Simpson is fit leaving Charlie out. This will be to suit Weston but it wont work as Weston's final ball is not precise enough as he just hits it.

They need to get somone in to work with Weston on his final ball
( Neil Smilie springs to mind)

I dont think they need anyone extra, I hope Scott and Bullivant have identified this and are trying to do something about it. However, I think it is more down to whether the player actually wants to progress (not just Weston) but any player. I was listening to Gary Johnson last night and he said there are too many players just happy to "plod on" and earn a living rather than push themselves, he quickly weeds them out!

I remember hearing that when Carl Hutchings was a young player and trying to break into the first team he was known for staying on after the official training to do another hour or two practice - I wonder if any of the current squad do extra.

Just feel we need other options than just hoping that we will get goals from crosses,we need goals from midfield players who can break from midfield and score or make telling passes from midfield and i feel none of our current midfield players offer us anything going forward.

Watch Alexanders goal against Everton and look out for Adams waving his hands in the air on the edge of the box. Weston still crosses into the box despite four defenders and only their hesitation and Alexander's decisive and well timed run and jump ensured the right end result.

If a goal is scored Weston's decision was the correct decision however if you freeze framed the scenario for coaching purposes and asked a group of players what Weston should do next, 9 out of 10 players would say pull the ball back (on the floor) to Adams.

I've heard it all now. Having a pop because of how we scored a goal against international defenders.

If only you were in charge.

I was not having pop as I went onto say if a goal is scored you cant do that.

What you can do is use the example to show Weston that there is another option available to him if he could just lift his head before striking the ball.

Everton defenders and keeper will have got a rollicking for their positioning and indecision which Alexander fully exploits.

To change Weston into a Premiership player he has to be coached, raw pace is not enough. The ability to make decisions and then to make the right decisions at the right time is a crucial skill that he lacks.
Someone of Smilie's knowledge could help with that.

 Casiraghi only played 10 times for Chelsea before injury cut short his career and only scored one goal. So not sure you have a very good example. :fishing:
£4m Insurance claim paid out though if you were interested. ;)

2 manu kids gone to bradford on loan.
surely we can get a goal scorer for a month or two?
don't say we don't need one?
would Rhodes be scoring on our side?
I say yes.

With Mac out for three weeks and the fitness of Simmo, Cort and Forster a doubt then I think we need a loanee in, even if it's just for a month.

short term striker problem

I think Mickey Spillane would make a good stop-gap striker.
