Spot on. We may already have that 'creative midfielder' that is sooo lacking, we just haven't (until now) been able to utilise him.

If he plays right back it would enable spillane to move into midfield, am sure I read somewhere he started as a midfield player... might be interesting :)

We don't want to move KO as he is playing out of his skin at CB. Kevin is needed in midfield. Lets not look horse mouths in the gift , if we sign another player its all good. :sorted:

Then we will need to get another right back as cover......

Think you will find that's the idea of looking at Stephen Wright ;) We've got other players that can fill that position in the short term, but will need a long term replacement IF AS is looking to move Spillane there.

Is he any good on Football Manager?

according to my assistant, (NOT Terry Bullivant) he would be a fantastic signing. although he has a pace rating of 6/20

Ugly bastard n'all!

A pace rating of 6 out of 20 is not a great attribute for a full back.

Better than Danny Foster. released him as he doesn't even warrant a salary.

And thats NOT just on the game

any progress on this ?? do you think andy will sign him ?? if nothing the guy has a wealth of experiience..

I don't see the point with this one. We've got a big enough squad already and AS has been struggling to find his best side. This would only add to the confusion. If we need a right back, Pim can cover.

agree 100%. maybe more.

if (and only if) mickey gets injured then go and sign someone on loan.

AS mentions this in his post-match interview; specifically that he does not want to play players out of position to cover Spillane! I really can't see why having a back-up right back is confusing - surely it's more confusing to expect a left centre back or a last-minute loanee to step in? Or is it just confusing to some supporters?

There are many moments of madness on here but the concept of every new signing being the automatic first team choice or 'don't bother' is one of the stranger ones. Having experienced (and relatively cheap) players who contribute to the squad while waiting their chance - like Hunt & McCracken - can't be a bad thing. Having 11 fit players and a few juniors on the bench has long gone for League 1.

100% Spot on. Also allows Spillane into midfield if needed. Pim at right back is a no no he can pay left back not right back. I understand AS saying Smith has a good pedigree. If AS is looking to sort a deal as quoted in the Chronny he must think he's worth a punt I think this would be a good move for us. We then have as strong a group of players we have had for many a year to cover nearly all positions. One / two more quality signings whilst releasing a couple in January IMHO would have the strongest line up for a long time.

Pim is left sided, so i really cannot see him at RB, left back maybe, Osborne has excelled back at CB, and Legge is only a CB, Woodman cannot be switched either as the Orient JPT game proved. So really, we need a right back of some sort, if Wright comes in on a pay as you play deal then i cannot see a problem.

We don't have right back cover, Pim is left footed? Also Osborne is playing really well at centre back so would not want to move him. If we want to move on from this league we need cover:confused:

Nothing to stop a left sided player playing on the right although it isn't ideal. But as a stop gap it's ok in my view. My concern is simply that i'd like to see a bit of stability now as AS is beginning to sort out his best eleven.

So how is someone who has neve rplayed RB and is totally left footed making things stable. If you said Osborne or O'Connor at RB I would sort of understand. But PIM!! :nono:

Pim played a few Championship games at full back for Ipswich although I don't know whether it was left or right. There are other options as you've pointed out which could be preferable. Point is that I'd like any monies to be available in Jan to bring in a quality player in midfield rather than paid out when stop gap solutions are available.

As will get a midfield player in if he wants one, doesn't mean we can't sign Wright.

I don't expect Scott will sign a centre midfielder in Jan or anytime, he doesn't believe in playing the ball through midfield, what would be the point ?

We have 2 good centre midfielders in Bean and Diagouraga and David Hunt as a back up.
Surely MB cannot allow him to sign anymore players that he won't play ?

Your posts are so veiled  , Kevin the captain is also good .

I don't think there's anything veiled about them it's obvious that KOC is not rated by some, shame they pick on the captain and longest serving player.

Good news i reckon.

I've seen him play for Coventry on quite a few occasions, as follow Sky Blues with some Cov mates a few games a season.

I really don't rate him. He'd be an improvement on Spillane at right back, but for the money we'd pay him he's not worth it. He was rubbish at Coventry and had an awful disciplinary record.

as seems to feel safer signing older players.

i would rather we kept to our policy of finding young stars of the future from non-league or wherever.

they have far greater potential value too. ko is worth a few pounds now!

I think it would be a good signing, would like to see Spillane in mid field as think he has more to offer in an attacking role.

All I've got to say is Shipperley (and that bloke from Orient whose legs had gone).

Agree with these. It would be nice if our reserves were hungry youngsters rather than 30+ experienced pros.

I saw Stephen play last week. Looks physically fit but needs match and training ground practise I suspect, which you only get with a club enviroment. This guy is no Neil Shipperley, believe me. If Spilliane is out of form or injured, we don't want to bring KOC or Karliegh to fill in as that will disrupt the team. If Stephen does sign we then have some competition at right-back.

Having youngsters in the squad is all well and good but it's no match for seasoned experience.

Tbh, I never doubted that he wouldn't be physically able to play and couldn't see Scott making that kind of mistake. I just wonder if the policy is right - we don't have a lot of youngsters on the books pushing the older players which is always a worry.

But if we were to get rid of a surplus RW then we could have an extra needed RB.

Name me some clubs in the lower leagues that do. :)

I was struck by the age of some of the Peterborough bench but then Fry's philosophy has always been to have younger players in general. Swindon brought on a couple of youngsters as well I think.

Think in our position in the league we need to keep our winning run going, would rather have a "finished article"player to come in than keep moving players out of position.Pretty sure it would only be on a short term or play and pay contract.
