Strikers

We're on a bad run at the moment and we just aint scoring goals. It's as simple as that. We're doing ok and hopefully things will pick up again. I seriously think we should have signed Ali Chabaan (staines town), i went to watch them last weekend and once again he looked awesome and scored 2 goals and created a hatful of chances. The signings we have made from non league clubs has been good, (dj, sodje) and im more then sure this lad could be another dj. Why doesnt Leroy ask Darius about Chabaan as he is on loan at staines and see what he has to say about him. I don't know what everyone else thinks, but its worth a punt? Hopeully we can push on again starting from saturday.

im assuming he'll play for free-great lets get him!


if not then we cant afford him.whether or not we should have signed him instead of someone like willock or moore is another story but both players came with more experience than he has

We've off loaded Rhodes for a bit and Gummy goes in about 8 weeks, after which we may have 3 shillings and sixpence for a cheap striker, posssibly, maybe, perhaps.

Rosenior is such a sh*t manager that hes failed to address the problem in midfield and has brough in a carthorse striker instead

I reckon we would have signed him if we hadn't just blown 50k the week before on Moore. There has to be a reason why he hasn't made it at a higher level though.

Away from home they not, but at home they are missing their fair share,
we should have beaten Yeovil, Bristol City and Gillingham but we didn't convert our chances, i read somewhere that we had 8 shots against Forest thats not bad away from home against the "best" team in the league.


We do however need a 20+ goals a season striker, we needed one last season and the season before as well.

Thats strange because I thought Kuffour has been our best player this season so far.:scratch:

Everyone I know who went to Forest said Paul Smith had nothing to do, so I assume the 8 shots must have been well off target.

I also assume when Leroy signed Wijnhard he was expecting Oli to do a job in midfield and so it was a target man he needed........ but neither of those have worked out so far.

It seems that the more we play the less we are creating and even with Owusu back it will be well into January before he regains any fitness, thats if he has no setbacks. I think the only player we may see in the near future may be Cox, who I think could do a good job for us upfront, but again it will take him a few games to get going!

Lets hope Rhodes has found some form, but it will be a struggle anyway with our midfield at the moment.

He's not even starting Swindon games, came on after 75 mins on saturday.

He wouldn't be far off my best player of the season. I can't think really think of anyone who has done any better.

Perhaps I'm reading this wrong and perhaps he would win a Player of the Year poll by a mile if it was done today :shrug:

But he wouldn't get my vote :shrug:

I'm not saying that he's been so outstanding that he's winning it by a country mile, more a case of the bar being very low thus far and imo his only competition is Heywood and Griffiths.

defense needs sorting out as well. We have about 6-7 forwards on the books, they may not all be great but lets get the basics right before we bring in another hopeful "one for the future" forward.

Build foundation and stability at the back. Defend further up the field, condence the play to enable you to win more 2nd balls, which in turn gives you more opportunity for the midfield to create chances for forwards.
Sometimes it will not be pretty, but it's important to grind out some good results and build cinfidence.

I agree that we would have probably signed him then. I agree that there must be a reason why he's not made it at a higher level and from what i've been told it was something to do with his attitude. But surely Chabaan would'nt cost much and im sure we could even loan him. I just hope things pick up soon.

I thought Moore was free, and the 50k went towards covering his contract ?

Ali Chabbhan should have been signed regardless of talent, he has a name that lends itself to headlines and catchy chants

I think we still need a striker. How we find the monies I don`t know.

Upfront we have:

Ide - who is kid and should only play 30 games max on top form.

Thorpe - will miss fist couple of games through suspension and getting on.

Connell - not an out an out striker

Montague - one for the future.

agree, but the ones which have come on trial have been awful and not worth a punt. There must be a non-leaguer around who hasn't been snapped up yet, but as you say the budget is probably stretched to its limits now with Canoville looking like signing and possibly Smith too. Prefer these 2 than signing Shakes.

Montague hasn't impressed me yet.
One for the future...........possibly,who knows.

Must not be used as one of our main strikers this season !

I disagree. We look lightweight in both departments and if we don't score goals there is going to be a big problem this season. Ace Face's points are completely valid on our options going forward.

But we have a trialist who looks the business in midfield and I haven't seen one yet to play upfront. We might be able to get away with the three with have (Thorpe, Ide, Connell) along with Peters and Montague and look for a youngster on loan to fill any gaps. That looks like the plan

Could not agree more. If we have a decent defence and midfield goals will come along with cleansheets, even with our current strike force.

to be honest, The potential team at the moment is a mystery to me....

Brown is a given
Mackie-Heywood I believe is Butcher's preferred partnership at the back.
O'Connor seems to be in the plans...

I havent seen enough of Connell and Thorpe so yes I agree, up front is a bit of a mystery...but I contend that central midfield is a bit more of a worry...

We have Mousinho, O'Connor, Pead (injured) and Poole (injured)

Maybe another loan deal is an option and probably cheaper, nearer the start of the season. :fishing:

That would assume that none of the three are good enough which would be an admittance of failure - I can't see someone lending us a 4th choice striker.

Why? They are obvioulsy still looking for another forward, hence the trialists in that position, so surely if their final choice is someone on loan, whats the difference, apart from a much shorter contract?

I'm thinking more that the lending club would insist on a starter - would TB be happy with that?

I expect most fans of most 2nd div clubs apart from Peterborough and MK Dons are saying the same about there respective clubs.
