Stuart Attwell
I have thought for a while that he is unfairly treated by referees and that he seems to be a victim of his sheer size and physique than anything else.

Just sent this to the powers that be - suggest we all do although it won't make a scrap of difference. Made me feel better though.
Dear Sir,
As I sit down to write this letter I am painfully aware that the powers that be in football have little or no regard for the piffling inconvenienceswho plague the game - ie the fans - and as such am only to aware that I will probably get no response from your offices.
That said I felt I had to write regarding the performance of Stuart Attwell at the Brentford v Notts County game last Saturday and your, frankly, incredible decision to condone his incompetence.
I was at the game which was wrecked as a spectacle eight minutes in by one of the worst decisions I have ever seen on a football field from a man who clearly has no concept of how the modern game is played.
Nathan Elder's sending off, by the same man who 'saw' a goal when 15,000 other people didn't, was beyond belief at the time and meant the thousands who paid to watch the game were cheated of a genuine game of football.
I was, foolishly as it turned out, quite relaxed about the whole thing and felt the disciplinary body would rescind the red card on watching the video as I have done repeatedly.
Given the evidence - Elder back-peddling, watching the ball, the defender attacking it and the reaction of Edwards team-mates to the clash and aftermath - there was in a legal sense no case to answer.
Your panel - presumably made up of gin soaked old duffers anxious to get to their gentlemens' clubs - felt differently. No surprise there because it was ever thus with a body seemingly hell bent on alienating itself from the paying fan.
At the age of 40-plus I have watched the game for decades, played representative football and still play three times a week and know a foul when I see one.
Elder's was not a foul as I'm sure your panel, were they not so determined to protect gaffe-prone Mr Attwell, would agree.
But politics are at play here and it's only Brentford who will suffer. Were it Manchester United or Liverpool, the game would have gone on with a free kick given and nothing more.
I'm sick of the way the football authorities treat fans and lower league with utter contempt...I suggest you get our house in order before you have no game to pass ludcrous decisions on.
And start by taking a long hard look at Mr Attwell before he starts to cost people their jobs.
Yours Sincerely,
Jim Levack

Good letter but they will have stopped taking you seriously at 'gin soaked old duffers' Im afraid.
Have to be honest and say that I am not surprised that they rejected the appeal. It seems to me that common sense is in short supply at these hearings and they will do everything possible to come down on the side of the poor old referee.
Then they will start saying that the respect campaign is necessary and all clubs should support it. That's absolutely true, but they don't seem to understand that respect is a two way thing and not just there to protect the referee.

vodka?
Anyone else get a note back explaining the process for how the appeal is made and who makes up the panel, with 2 lines at the end saying everything was done correctly?
Waste of time i guess, they will keep supporting this clown
Sky Sports is the best bet. They would love a chance to have a go at this idiot ref.

They will always have an automatic response, but you can all but try.
They might get fed up with the amount of letters/emails they recieve eventually.
Everyone should send their letters and emails to the same email address/postal address.
I'd love to know who that independent tribunal were and what their footballing experience is.
I just spoke to someone at the FA and they have had 'a lot of e-mails' about Nathan Elder and he told me that the sending off was reviewed by an 'independent tribunal' who decided to turn down the appeal. It is - apparently - up to the club to prove Nathan's innocence, i.e. you are guilty until proven innocent and whatever was provided was not sufficient to get the independent tribunal to change the outcome.
I'd love to know who that independent tribunal were and what their footballing experience is.

The man is a joke.
Quality!
Their members are drawn from a Judicial Panel, which comprises three categories of individuals: FA Council members; individuals with football experience (e.g. former players, referees, managers, etc.) and specialists (e.g. lawyers, accountants, arbitrators, etc.). The specific composition of each Commission is determined by the Judicial Panel Chairman. Commissions are generally comprised of four members, including one from the “football panel”.
I read this as being a panel with at most one from the first group, who could have been a referee.![]()
Email i got from the FL
Thank you for your email.
We will ensure that Professional Game Match Officials - the body responsible for the management and administration of match officials – are made aware of your views.
We receive numerous queries and complaints regarding individual referee's decisions and their overall performance. Although we are unable to respond on each individual incident, we can advise that the performances of all officials are constantly monitored by way of club and assessor reports, the match video or DVD and, at some grounds, the Prozone statistics. The match is also analysed by the Referees' Manager, referee's coach and the referee and, despite the perception of some, match officials are most accountable for their performance.
Referees make their decision based on years of training and experience and what they see at that moment in time, from a position different from anyone else in the ground - he can only act on what he sees, assisted by the other match officials and not everyone will agree with the decisions he takes.
Contrary to expectations, the Referees' Manager will not attempt to support a referee out of sheer loyalty (Really). It is his responsibility through PGMO to identify training needs of not only individual referees but also of all National Group match officials.
The Manager also works with his group in a bid to constantly improve standards in a game which has become faster and more frenetic over recent years. Every match is recorded and referees are under closer scrutiny than ever before.
Thank you for contacting The Football League with your view.
Yours sincerely

I've bolded the thing i thought was funny!
"This ref in particular has had enough problems as it is, and not overturning Nathan's appeal has saved him from an investigation."
Every thing falls in to place.
The incident was on Sky Sports News around half five. Unfortunately the sound is off at work so couldnt hear what was being said, but Georgie Thomson had a bit of a chuckle.
Schedule said:Graham Poll joins Mark Saggers to assess the impact of the FA's respect campaign and the performance of football referees this season.
Dominic Holland is due on the Hawksby & Jacobs show shortly.....good time to bring up the subject of tw*twell on national radio
If so many people in the media clearly know Attwell made a bad decision and are pointing out that the FA is making themselves look even worse by backing him, thus undermining their own processes for the sake of their young FIFA starlet, why don't they just admit they've got it wrong?
I'm sure if it was a West Ham player this would all have been sorted in time for him to play in their important cup match tomorrow.
