Subs!

Are we not allowed to use them anymore?
0-0 with 20 minutes to save our season and creating eff all!
Not the first game when I thought the lack of subs is scary but hopefully the last.

Subs!

today showed that andy scott has a lot to learn still no subs used when it was crying out for reid

Subs!

Surprised Shakes wasn't replaced on the hour, given that he wasn't exactly on it, and that we didn't see anything of Reid - again.

Subs!

Steve Coppell was always very reluctant to use subs, if I recall. I think it was a mistake to stick Heywood up front when Reid was on the bench, but I'm not sure we have any real impact players sitting unused.

Subs!

If we had more on the bench maybe. I don't think Reid was more likely to score than those out there but if Smith was at all fit he would at least have changed the pattern of the game which was what we needed. Andy has also found most success with a settled side and seen them battle to the end to get a late win a couple of weeks ago.

Subs!

The lack of subs is highly frustrating but I'm hoping it is just that he doesn't have confidence in his squad rather than any ineptitude or anything. Next season will be the telling time for it.

:imwith: Haven't seen anything of Reid to suggest he would have made a huge difference

Whilst still untried it beggars rthe question why is he here, surely he is more likely to score than Matt and letys face it we were winning the balls in the air already.

I was incredibly dissappointed in AS Rochdale made subs to win the game, we made just one and it was already determined before they scored. I dont mind losing ( well that not totaly true) but i detest losing and not lmaking an effort

Subs!

We should have used the maximum number of subs allowed, as we had nothing to lose and could perhaps have put players on who could have a)made fewer mistakes, and b) might have done something to make it looked as though we still wanted to make something of this season.

Subs!

As NB says, I've felt in quite a few games recently that Scott seems reluctant to bring on subs - even getting the bench to warm up, so as to gee-up the payers on the field, seems to be unusual.

Why Shakes was not replaced at half-time (as he had his regulation one decent cross in the first half) was a complete mystery and I guess Smith is still not match-fit, which is why we did not seem to be able to create anything.

Subs!

Yesterday i would have brought on

Sankofa for Pead
Reid for Shakes
Brown for Poole

and gone

--------------Brown-------------

-----Sankofa--Heywood--Bennett--

Brown--Mousinho--KOC---Dickson--

---------------Reid----------------

--------Connell-------Elder---------

Subs!

Not for the first time AS has been reluctant to use his subs. IMO we needed to change the game, his substitution of shakes for Brown was just like for like, he threw Haywood forward when another recognised striker would have been more practical. Hope he looks at the games he has been in charge and learns from the mistakes in time for a proper push at the Title next season.

Nobody has! He's never been given a chance, even when we're feckin desperate. We've all got used to his weekly run out of between 2 - 5 minutes, which no doubt will be considered by many as sufficient time to assess and justification for him not being good enough. Our manager doesn't appear to know how to change things, when he needs to. I hope he can learn quickly, otherwise it doesn't look particularly good for the future.

Subs!

AS keeps on about how young his team is and how they are still learning. TBH AS is still learning himself, so maybe it's a case of the blind leading the blind.

............I do not want a blind leader..................

Aside from him being a striker and Heywood being further forward being a big cause of their second goal
Pead in no man's land playing 2 players onside was a big cause for their goal too ;)

But yeh, I would have replaced Shakes with Brown and Poole with Reid, pushed Dickson to left wing and Reid up front and gone 3-4-3. No difference at this point between losing 1-0 or 5-0. You have to try, right?

Also, we have the perfect players to put out a really strong 3-5-2, Shakes and Dickson both have enough energy to run the touchlines. I don't see why we don't give it a go.
Code:
             Hamer
  Osborne Heywood Bennett
            O'Connor
Shakes Mousinho Poole Dickson
         Connell Elder

S: Brown, Pead, Brown, Smith, Reid

That back 3 with KOC sittin just infront looks immense, would love to see this team, but with smith in Cm insted of Mous

Subs!

The Mous/Kev partnership in midfield has been really good in the last few matches and has filled me with more confidence than any other combination this season outside perhaps of a few Smith/Kev matches when we were really flying, so I left it as-is.

I thought Mousinho was poor on Saturday - very ineffectual which was disappointing as he had looked good coming back. Smith should have had the last 20 - if he was fit enough, that is.

Christ knows how though, given their relative sizes Mous should have been able to hold him off easily.

Although I'm very much a 4-4-2 man, I've been thinking exactly the same. With exactly the same line up as you. It would give us the extra width, accomodate Poole and the ability to retain both Connell and Elder in the side. It's got to be worth a try in these last few meaningless games I reckon :)

That's not how football works ..... thankfully.

And we've sent Charles out on loan... Deary me, Andy!

We have Heywood fit and Sankofa as back up, Osborne was ill not injured. Think AS was also talking to Reading about extending Bennett loan deal, although bearing in mind we are now out of any play off hunt, we might try and save money assuming Bennett is costing us something.
We have just enough bodies to tied us over.

I thought Bennett signed the day before we played Macclesfield, March 7. Given the deal could have been 31 days I'm surprised he isn't available on Saturday

I'm also surprised it wasn't extended before last Thursday, given that if we had won on Saturday we'd have been right in the hunt for the top 7 and Bennett would be a more than useful addition.

Presumably it can't be extended now

Banana says he isn't available and I'm sure he's right. ;)

As for the rest. Loan deals confuse me, but I'm sure you are right too. ;)

The loan had to be extended before the recent deadline. There were a number of extensions to existing loans at other clubs to make the end of the season/playoff scenarios, but we obviously didn't make any so Bennett should be off very soon.

Subs!

I would do away with loan player deals and the Bosman. Much rather see EVERY team fielding a squad of contracted players, who actually feel a real sense of allegience to the club that employs them.
I didn't see too much wrong with football until they started poncing around with the rules to be honest. As far as I'm concerned, we play in Div.4( whatever the"suits" want to call it) and would like to see a long term plan to rebuild the team and club. Rather difficult if you have to change the whole squad (virtually) every year at least.
Oh yes, I would also introduce public flogging for footballers "agents", greedy gits. No wonder young players today get all "uppity" after half a dozen decent performances.
Jumpers for goalposts, three and in? Proper football boots instead of todays "carpet slippers"? Yes please.

AS has been quoted as saying he needs to see more of Reid to see if he is worth signing, what better chance than Saturday when it seemed clear to me we were making no headway at all.
Elders finishing is very poor at the moment I hope that after his op it improves.

Couldn't agree with you more - first class comments - especially the bit about Division 4. :sorted:

Don't disagree I would have been more inclined to give Reid a chance than stick the proverbial 'big man from the back up front' but disagree that AS doesn't appear to know how to change things. We've had ample evidence since he took over that he has got a damn sight more right than he has wrong in terms of tactics and the squad in general....just don't think Saturday was one of those occasions.

Nice idea in theory, but we can't turn back the clock and we have to live with the Bosman ruling.

And, given that the Bosman ruling puts virtually all the power in the players' hands, I think significant numbers of loanees will continue to play a part in the lower divisions as there is less reason to invest in players who can walk away at the end of their contract.

I would however like to see some cap placed on the number of loanees who can play for a club in a season (perhaps an exception for GKs), rather than just on the number you can have in the squad on match day...perhaps 6 outfield players in a season

Everybody's right. What-ho! I make that Pimms o'clock :D :sorted:

Surely the way to get around the Bosman ruling is to have your better players on contracts that end in the 2nd week of August. That way anyone who is eyeing up your better players and wants them in their squad will have to pay for them. Big risk is that you come to the start of a new season, play one match and then half your team leaves for nothing though. Hmm... :banghead:
It doesn't make sense that if a player is out of contract you can get money for them though so the Bosman ruling appears sound, but then it is strange that not a lot in football makes sense but this quirk was fixed.

No player would sign that contract and we'd be f***ed trying to bring new players in during the summer if the players we had signed up turned out to be sh*t as we'd have to wait until August 2nd for that money to be freed up. :banghead:

What's a little extra to add to the billions of debt the club already has? ;)

I would very very very very very very very much like to see this team, but with Sankofa for Bennett, as he will be at Reading, and Smith in CM insted of Mous. Qualityyyyyyyyyyy side, and it plays very well to our strengths

Subs!

i'm with you too!!,

Moses should've come on for Williams, Poole was injured so had to come off, but the bench lacked players to come on and make a difference.

Subs!

Moses would have livened things up and created a few more chances towards the end. Dickson did ok but still looks a way off full fitness.

Why were there subs sponsored by subway and ours not

Espeically as ours was sub of the day :sneakoff:
