I'd go with that. Won't be such a physical game as Rovrum, so better suited to Barbet than JOC, who was clearly at fault for Rovrum's 1st goal in any case. The lad Charlton have got on loan from the Arse was very sharp in front of goal on Saturday! Marco needs match time to get as sharp as he was when he had his previous run in the team.

I'd go with that too - although would prolly swap Judge and Swift positionally.
(or bring in Macca for Josh if match-fit and put Macca on the right DM and Woods left)

The thing for me is Djuricin. Personally I think Hofmann and Vibe are better team players and contribute more. I have seen little of Djuricin that makes me think he is worth 1 Million plus. (what ever price we have agreed) But for me the question is does DS have to pick him to make or break him. We need to find out now if we want to keep him. If he can't make it against Charlton then he is not going to make it. Because of our safe league position and needing to find out if he is worth his price tag I agree he should be picked but not because I think he will contribute more to the team than the other options.

As a lone striker I still think he has more potential than the others.
I maintain he just needs:
a) Decent service not the sporadic half chance
b) To get a goal and see some confidence return
c) Have a decent run with the same or similar side so they learn to play together - which is particularly important as he needs it to be second nature to know where the providers will put the ball for him and those providers need to start putting the ball into the positions where he's gambling on being like any good striker

Sorry but I really don't want to see Swift in a defensive role.
1) He does get caught with the ball. In the attacking area we could recover but not as a defensive two.
2) When he does break through then things open up for us. Either giving him a scoring chance or options for others.
3) The boy can score. We need goals from midfield and Swift is second only to Judge.

Macca in for Josh.
Barbet in for JOC and the other nine from Saturday please.

I'm hoping playing him central he would HAVE to do it

Marco

I'd have Hoff warming up from the beginning and on at half time if Marco doesn't get involved and if Macca isn't fit to start be happy for Josh to play alongside Woods given the opposition and the fact we're at home.

Is macca fit now then ?

I know not mate, I read he was back and training before Wolves game but haven't seen or heard anything since. I think he was tailor made for a team like Rotherham away, not so key for Charlton at home so happy to see him back but not concerned if Josh gets another go alongside Woods.

I will be upset if we don't buy in an upgrade for Macca next season,

Vibe

I am not sure I can hack watching Vibe up top on his own again.

I would be tempted to stick hogan on the bench, he only needs 7 minutes to score a goal and against Charlton surely he will get a chance and what a lift for the whole club that would be. 83rd minute sub.

Also can't see swift as a holding player.

Tin helmet on! To be honest I would not be unhappy if I never saw AM in a Bees shirt again. We will not be relegated and should be looking to the future.

If we play like we did on Saturday we won't pick up many points between now and the end of the season, would you rather that than play Macca in games where we need to match our opponents if they come to battle?

That's my team. Macca and Barbet a must. Would still give Marco another run out as I reckon he can offer more than Vibe can and needs game time to get his sharpness and confidence back.

I'd go along with that for a home game. I want to see MacEachran get games under his belt.

We looked like a very weak unit at Rotherham.

No argument Les, Maccas not the future.
However if we don't get a loanee in and I've seen nothing to suggest we will, until we are mathematically safe there are games where I'd start Macca.

Team for Charlton

Where we were superb in midfield, however if you were there at Rotherham you'd probably agree that Josh and Woods aren't always right together, especially against bully boy journeymen.

They'll just have to learn then I guess. :)

Team for Charlton

Really? I gave you more credit than that, you need options in midfield and ours are very limited this season with lots of lightweight, tidy players without any steel or width.

MacCormack (who isn't anywhere near as good as people make him out to be) is a short term option that just papers over cracks. We have to give MacEachran game time this season to work out what we want in the summer. I therefore agree with TadB - it's a pointless exercise putting Mac there. I'd rather see Barbet if the concern is physicality to see what he could do.

Don't get it at all, you'd rather play the wrong formation and players out of position until the end of the season just to get them experience?
We could play Rotherham 6 games on the trot and we'd lose every time without players who will battle and stand up to their bullying. Josh is a quality footballer but I wouldn't want him in the trenches alongside me. You need experience and nous and nasty sometimes but we don't have so we need to invest in the summer or we will struggle next year.

How are you playing MacEachran out of position in central midfield? We're not playing Rotherham. I know we need a player like that in the summer - haven't denied it - but it's not that relevant to a discussion about the team on Saturday. I'm just putting more value on misplaced passes than missed tackles I guess.

A bit depressing that you and NB are both suggesting Josh should miss out after his performance in the Wolves game. Was he that bad at Rotherham?

Woeful, he dangled a foot in one tackle and removed it when the oppo player snarled at him. I have already said at home vs Charlton not unhappy for Josh to start alongside Woods but he doesn't deserve to based on Saturday!

You responded to my post that you'd rather leave Macca out and play Barbet further forward? Did I misunderstand?

Yes you did. I would play MacEachran. If we wanted to look at options, I'd be inclined to have a have a look at Barbet at some point this season to see whether there's anything there. We know what MacCormack does and doesn't give us and he's unlikely to be here next year anyway so I don't see a point in him playing.

I think Josh and Ryan both have qualities and need to play as much as possible, I also think that too many games where they get beaten up and bruised as a pair isn't going to do either any favours, Ryan was tackling and battling for two again at the weekend, Charlton aren't going to come and be silky IMO, we somehow won five on the spin with Macca's leadership and I don't want to us melt again this weekend. If it Ryan and Josh and they do a Leeds or Wolves then superb but .....

Even if we're losing week in week out you wouldn't play him?
I find that strange

Canos has somethiy to prove after Rotherham, but should be used as a sub. Ryan Woods every time. He has the attitude and will improve. Macca would be handy. Him and Judge to put a rocket up Djuricin.

Why do all of our potential line ups always see a central midfielder playing on the wing.

Apart from Canos and Saunders who really are suited to play on the same side, its a bit frustrating that we are always trying to shoe horn someone into a not natural position. I hope we bring in someone else or maybe try a real winger like Gogia on the other side.

Agree, pointless putting them in the side in some respects, if they are being played out of position, when they have a bad game out of position, they get slagged off too!

Team for Charlton

Nico should've been going forward and crossing a lot more than he did at Rotherham (no crosses at all in fact) so I want to see us start playing with a proper holding player to cover.
I wouldn't trust Woods sitting in front of central defenders, has to be Macca. This position needs to be a big priority in summer, although mentioned on beesotted, I like the idea of trying Colin there.

The other central midfield absolutely has to be attack minded, not sideways minded. So definitely McEachran for me. Wait a minute, I can almost hear it AGAIN "what about Woods at Reading". Is that it then?
