same as saturday apart from Bean coming in for Pead i would have thought. Even though Pead has done ok.
the saying of "never change a winning side" will be in AS's mind though!

So basically, no change from yesterday.

Why would you drop Pead for Bean, who would be likely to pick up bookings for stupid comments to referees ala Swansea.
Pead done well yesterday. He went through the game un-noticed - something I like. If he was playing rubbish, then it would have been noticed. He done what was needed.

I'd bring Bean onto the bench instead of Osborne to boost midfield cover. Leave Pead in there as he had a good game. Nobody deserves to lose their place and a winning team shouldn't be changed.

Team v Barnet

Wouldnt change the team, all the players had great games no need to drop them!

Team v Barnet

Same side for me, no Benitez style fiddling about please Mr Scott

Team v Barnet

Andy's going to have a problem here and it's going to be important to keep a good squad sprit, so that there are no players who feel they're not getting the call they think they deserve.

Isn't that a great thing to say about Brentford FC!

Team v Barnet

If Wood or Smith are fit I would bring them back into the starting XI but have no problem taking the field with yesterdays line up if they are not.

Team v Barnet

"Don't change a winning team" - one of the most stupid saying in the history of football. Absolute cop-out. "Sorry Rolando, we just signed you but the boys did well last week so you'll have to sit it out until lose". Bullshit.

Now; "Don't let a ball bounce in the area" and "Don't make a substitution when defending a corner" are ace!

Team v Barnet

Same team as yesterday. Unless Wood/Dickson or Smith get fit (which is very unlikely) to replace Johnson and Pead respectively. Having said that, Pead did very well.. so a tough one.

Team v Barnet

The same team as saturday,Bean let us down by mouthing off and besides Pead done ok

Team v Barnet

"Sorry Rolando, we just signed you but the boys did well last week so you'll have to sit it out until lose".

I'd leave the fatty on the bench personally, whilst worrying about why I'd signed him.

Are you saying Bean is our equivalent of Ronaldo? :(

.....................same starting eleven please.........................

Even if all our squad turned up magically fit tomorrow the only player I would bring back on Saturday would be Dickson.

With Adomah on the right for Barnet we need extra pace and Dickson/Poole is the long term solution this season.

Central midfield is also up for debate but if O'Connor and Pead continue to destroy and distribute like they did on Saturday we'll be fine.

:imwith:

But - what about if Wood was fit but not Dickson? If Smith was fit I'd consider him as I think he contributes more in attack than Pead or Kev, but it wouldn't be an easy decision and I can't see any point in bringing Bean back if the others are doing a good job.

I agree with this totally. A little heat was sent my way when I suggested that Bean's actions against Swansea could (and should) cost him his place in the first team. Holysmit will have his revenge sent to him in my own sweet time. :sorted: :D

Understandably, if a referee is fussy, then life is a lot more difficult for the players out there, and players get frustrated. But Bean was the one who got himself red-carded, and there is always the danger that if a player misses a game because of suspension then he will have to fight his way back into the side. And bearing in mind that you don't change a winning side, there is every possibility that Bean may have to learn a new skill - patience - as he waits his turn once again.

EDIT: I just read Banana's post after posting this. Oh well, don't change a winning team. lol

Because Pead is not wanted, AS's words to him no doubt, and Bean is a player who AS wanted at BFC. He may have spoke to the ref, but at least he showed passion to moan at the ref unlike Pead, who although did ok at RB last season, he was sh*te for the majority of the games he played. I suspect AS will give Bean his place back, Pead is not a CM player, he should've left !

Team v Barnet

But he didn't. If Scott really wanted him gone, he would have released him like the others. He made him available, but also stated somewhere that if he was to stay, he wouldn't mind as he is a good utility.

Brentford would've had to pay Pead off to leave  so AS made him available for transfer on a 'Free'. If a manager wants you gone, then how can you be first choice?, Pead may well keep his place for Barnet, but i bet Bean is back in the next match.

Team v Barnet

I never said he was first choice, or should be.

I did however say that he should retain his place. He done well in pre-season, and done well yesterday.

Last summer, everyone was saying that Matt Heywood should have gone, and he was made available. He stayed and everyone fell in love with him during last season, as he improved.
Why can't that happen to Craig Pead this time around?

Team v Barnet

Bean will Replace Pead im sure of it, Bean is a much much better player and is way too good for League 2.

:nono::nono: he was crap and it showed yesterday.

IMO Pead is not good enough, and is taking up valuable money and a squad place, whereas Bean is IMO.
I suppose you're going to add Pead was in the League 2 team of the year, it was a joke and i bet every player who voted laughed their heads off when they found out he was RB of the year!

Managers do have a change of heart, esp if the player in question shows a fantastic attitude. Think the question is Bean and Pead or Bean and O`Connor. By the way, moaning at the ref does not show passion :)

It's all right he got himself sent off, he was showing passion

Team v Barnet

Why should Bean play? He let us down big time last week and Pead stepped in. Pead is a better option alongside Kev in my opinion.

Team v Barnet

Barnet will be a far harder test than Grimsby so we should pick our best first 11, if that means dropping someone then so be it. No room for sentiment this season, we need to go up..

let us down where 2-0 down with about 10 mins to go against a much better side and a card-happy ref:nono:

He should be back class-above pead!!!

Team v Barnet

i don't know if pead will be asked to make way for bean
at barnet but i do remember andy scott stating-
soon after his appointment-that a successful manager
must be totally ruthless

Team v Barnet

I think it will probably be an unchanged side, with those returning from suspension or injury on the bench. I'd rather have Dickson at LB than Johnson (though he did well on Saturday), but Dickson hasn't played pre-season so may need to be eased back in through a couple of appearances off the bench.

A nice problem to have for once

I'm not Pead's biggest fan at all but I think if Pead had done the same as Bean a lot of people on here would be slating Pead saying he should never play for us again and he let us down, not 'he was showing passion'. Bean, in my view, lost his head at Swansea after the ref missed a foul on him. Went in hard which got himself booked and then minutes later talked himself into a sending off. He wasn't that great at Bury

I have a feeling if played in central midfield he could have a much better season with us. Pead also doesn't merit being dropped after a good game. If you play well you stay in the team.

Team v Barnet

Salford, they are singling him out because he had a bad season last season, and is on the transfer list. That gives them the excuse that he is obviously not wanted.
So far this season, I have seen an improvement in Pead (that does include pre-season games). He is showing a bit more effort and determination. Just like Matt Heywood was like last Summer.
People just don't want to accept someone improving themselves to stay. He had the chance to move on, twice, but felt that he could give more to Brentford. Andy Scott wasn't upset about that, and was happy to see him back in training, trying his best.

Team v Barnet

EXACTLY. He let us down by getting needlessly suspended for Grimsby. We played well without him. Now he needs to earn his place back.

You're obviously entitled to your opinion but I'm going to strongly disagree. I also think people are missing the point when referring to Bean's red card - these things happen in football, I thought it was harsh tbh and I wouldn't let his first indiscretion influence whether he warranted his place back.

What I do know though is that Kev and Bean were a shambles as a partnership against Bury and that Kev was the better (or perhaps least poor) of the two. Pead and Kev were extremely effective on Saturday, albeit against a poorly performing Grimsby, and enabled us to get the ball down and pass it - directly contributing to the result imho. Yes, Pead gave the ball away a little too much, but importantly in my view, he was there, dropping back and offering himself to receive the pass.

Bean has played two games and been poor, ignorning his sending off. Pead has played one game and played well. I can't see an argument for swapping the two.

Team v Barnet

I am also concerned about Bean's self control given he was booked for dissent too in the Watford friendly - that must have taken some doing!

I'm starting to think that I under-reacted with my much-criticised comments about Bean in the Swansea match thread.

Team v Barnet

I think we may need a harder presence in centre mid for an away game so I would swap Pead for Bean and possibly also consider bringing Wood in at LB if he is fit. (I'm assuming Dickson won't be although have heard nothing about his injury lately)

May be harsh on players who get left out of a winning team but there is no room for sentiment if we are to get out of this god forsaken league.

I don't think Barnet will be much kop this year but at their own place the likes of Adomah can cause us problems and we will need to be at our best.

I hope everyone is going to this one. Sell out of our allocation would be nice.

I was very critical of Pead last season... but he was supposedly one of the best in the league for the SECOND year in succession so he must have something there, lets hope he shows it like he did on Saturday, I personally think he should be in at Barnet, if only on his performance on Saturday, only 2 things i would change but unlikely either Smith or Dickson will be fit,

Team v Barnet

I've only seen Bean play for us once - away at Bury. He had an awful game. In fact, he had no game at all. One of several no shows on that day. I'm sure he will improve. A lot of people seem keen for him to come back on Saturday, so I'm guessing that he must have looked really special in the pre-season kickabouts. I've never really been a fan of Pead's, but I reckon he probably had his best game for us against Grimsby. Given that, it feels strange that so many are calling for him to be replaced by out of form player for Barnet.

Bean wasn't overly impressive in the pre-season I saw (missed AFCW and Woking)

Team v Barnet

Can't see how Pead can be dropped, he made a couple of wayward passes but otherwise was spot on. Even if Bean is the favoured player by AS he must earn his recall, especially after Bury where he was anonymous/poor.
Would leave the team as was, it'll show that nobody is safe when they miss a game. We don't have a great depth of squad but need each player to know that when they get the chance they can hang on to their place when they do well.
Likewise with Dickson & Wood, I could understand if maybe a change in tactics were to dictate the need for a different set-up but surely the performance on Saturday was enough to show that those 11 can cope with what Barnet can throw at us (apologies for the long sentence).

Team v Barnet

I'd leave Pead in on Saturday, I think Bean will probably turn out to be the better player long term but hasn't started well and Pead has to be given the opportunity to keep 'his' place.

If Pead doesn't perform then Bean comes back in and gets to stake his claim for the place.

It so nice for AS to have these selection problems!!

Phillips to play, instead of Bennett, if he is injured

Subs...Brown, Phillips, Pead, Connell, Ademola

Bean was Scott's key man, for CM in the summer, I can't see that changing, on the basis of two poor games. Scott must have faith in his new signings, rather than last year's failed players.
One good game for Pead, shouldn't make him an automatic choice

Yeah, but let himself down with his dismissal.......If a player is sent off for a second bookable offence, due to dissent, he's had a poor game IMHO
