Team vs Crawley

IMO barring injuries the same as started at Shrewsbury. If Nico isn't fit then I'd rather put O'Connor at RB than bring Mac out of mid. Adam will have to wait but I'm sure he'll feature as a sub.

Same as last week. But play Forshaw in mid field and McCormick right back if Nico injured.

Why drop Trotta, if anyone's in need of a rest it's probably CD but hopefully he's recharged after a week off.

Just think at his age he can't play at 100% week in week out and we could do with him fresh for the mid week game

Team vs Crawley

Better to start with him and sub after 75 mins ?

maybe but Grigg plays in his position and I still feel we should be able to beat Crawlwy whether he plays or not...I'd like to see Grigg given a start in his natural position

it's the only way we'll get the best out of him for sure ???

I like Grigg but IMO he has to wait for his chance. IMO we can get the best out of Trotta by starting with him and then subbing. Why would you leave out our second top scorer who is playing well ?

We have three games in eight days against lowly opposition; each should be predicted as three points. We have a squad and it should be planned to be used over these games to maximum effect. No passengers, no rose-tinted glasses, no favourites.

Our good run has been based on keeping virtually the same team (barring injury or suspension). If someone has a knock or is badly out of form, no problem with 1-2 changes, but I wouldn't want 'using the squad' to mean 3-4 changes every time or playing a virtual reserve team in the middle game

Hence my use of the word "planned".

I thought the "lowly opposition" argument would have been firmly kicked into touch after last Saturday. One of those "lowly" teams kicked Fulham firmly up the backside last night.
There are NO easy games in this league and we would be arrogant fools to think that there are.

Crawley are midtable ish, only lost 8 games and were seconds away from winning at Rotherham last time out.

Pretty sure he will choose that team , i can see the argument for mac in the middle but who would he drop ?

Yep I reckon so, im a massive fan of Macca in the middle, gives us so much more bite and bosses the game but im also a fan of playing both him and Dougie. More than happy with Macca at right back when of the best ive seen, he could be playing upfront or in goal and i would be happy ;)
Guess if Mac was in the middle with both Adam and George then Dougie to make way for Nico but for me Dougie, Mac, Sav and Forshaw start every week.

Goodness! I was commenting on the run of 3 games in 8 days and the need to pace ourselves and I was using "lowly" to contrast between the obsessive threads about Wolves and Orient, not to suggest they are easy, just that we need 9 points. I cannot see the same starting X1 across the 3 games, so there's got to be a bit of mix-and-match.

I would be very pleased with 7 points from the next 3 games, I would be ecstatic with 9 points from the next 3 games.

I would have thougt so too but who knows whether any of team carrying a knock. Warbs will also consider:
(1) Savile is on 8 yellows - he is a must for the Wolves game.
(2) Donaldson may need a breather and Akpom is natural replacement plus won't know if guy can really help fire us up to Championship without giving him a go from start.
(3) The need to give Grigg match time in his preferred position (not out of sentiment but with 17 games to go we need as many of our players match sharp as possible).

Button in goal, Mac centre mid and any nine others should be good enough to beat this lot.

A fit Forshaw should surely play.
Mac at RB was a key element in the early stages of the run that launched us up the table. Why change?
Sam Saunders, if he's back to full fitness, must surely be in contention for a midfield slot.

Because Mac is so much better in the middle, however the removal of Logan makes that inevitable.

Who would your middle three be? Mac, Forshaw and Saville? and dropping Doulgas? Tricky one - I think Mac will go back to RB as not sure MW knows his best midfield yet -although guess he can use the rotation policy with midweek games coming up as a reason to chop and change. Very tricky now players are coming back to fitness

Douglas has played well in the last two games but Mac, Saville and Forshaw are the dream team. How can you know your best midfield with what's on offer, Saunders showed v Port Vale that he can tuck in and roam, he became a ball winning monster who could launch an attack whilst finding a pass and that Walsall wally thinks they have the best midfield in the league!

Exactly. Midfield is his best position, but for the moment he's our best RB and we're well catered for in the midfield department.
I rate Saunders as Saville's equal at the very least. How to accommodate all four of SS, Saville, Douglas and Forshaw? I don't know. I imagine rotation is the answer.

Douglas is like Clayton- he wasn't dropped by Rosler and Warbs won't leave him out either. For me Mac in mid is our best chance of dominating games. Nico has come from Arsenal to play and IMO, he will play on saturday if fit. That means Saville and Forshaw vying for a place. Trouble is we've got too many good players now. Glad I'm not a manager.:)

No problem with having the same starting XI for these three games, but with a good bench players can be subbed so they don't have to play 3 x 95mins.

Savilles x8 yellows need to be managed though.

But if Nico isn't fit for the weekend you would really play KOC ahead of Forshaw?

Also we have dominated many games this season with a midfield of Douglas, Saville and Forshaw.

I don't see it as selecting Kev ahead of Forshaw-more keeping Mac in mid as he is THE player. Adam is terrific but IMO Mac has more in his game. But as I'm not managing the team , it doesn't mean diddle. I'll be interested to see how Warbs handles the situation as I wouldn't drop Saville.

If the weather forecast is correct for the weekend, the Cambridge Boat Race crew are more likely to figure :D

All about opinions and I agree that Mac is more effective in the middle than at RB. However Forshaw is the best CM is the division IMO so would never leave him out if he was fit.

Whilst I full appreciate the worth of Mac in our team I disagree that Mac has more in his game than Forshaw. Forshaw's visiion and movement and technique is far better than Mac's and ultimately he will play at a higher level than Mac.

Has Judge left the equation then?

It's simple, we will need to rotate with the quick games. George is still a youngster, he won't play every single game from here - though its fair to say he might get an enforced rest at some timethrough more yellows. IMHO Alan Judge could well be our most important midfielder between now and the end of season and would be the second I put in, as a fit JD is priceless.

We are fortunate to have two hugely talented players. Not sure I agree that Forshaw has better movement and vision although he probably shades it on technique. IMO where Mac leaves him behind is experience and sheer physical aggression. When/if it hits the fan, you want Mac in mid IMO. Hopefully both will play at a higher level with us next season. Pick three from Dougie, Mac, Saville and Forshaw. On paper Saville gets nudged but IMO his recent performances have been superb and I wouldn't drop him. No harm in Adam Forshaw realising he has to fight to get his place back which he will.

I think when Saunders is back fit there are some selection dilemma's but at the moment the team picks itself for me:

-----------------------Button------------

McCormack----Dean----Craig-----Bidwell

-----Forshaw-----Douglas----Saville----

-----Donaldson----Trotta-----Judge-----

Agree with your basic argument regarding the strength we have in that particular area. See Mac as an exceptional Division One midfielder who could hold his own in the Championship but I think Forshaw has the talent to go and play for one of the lesser teams in the Premiership. Different types of player but equally valuable to us at the moment and long may that continue.
