Team vs Norwich

After three defeats in a row, a home game against the side rock bottom could be turning point in our season one way or the other. Huge game once again.

As far as the team goes, no doubt there will be lots of ideas and potential changes floated about off the back of the Burnley defeat.

How would you line up?

For me:

Alvaro
Ajer Jansson Pinnock
Canos Norgaard Janelt Henry
Ghoddos
Mbeumo Toney

Zanka for Ajer if he is still out.

If game state has us in need of a goal in the last 15 mins I would also like to see us change setup to look something like this:

Yup, would go for that. Ghoddos deserves a start.

Like the look of those, though in the second one would perhaps bring on Jensen for Ghoddos as he'll actually have some movement up front to aim at.

We did well in early games with Janelt FTT or Baptiste and Norgaard I would start with the available three from this.

The losses have coincided with Janelt being out. The late winner vs West Ham papered over the crack where his presence was missed. It was good to see he managed to come on for some decent minutes against Burnley

So who would you play alongside Vitaly and Christian in the middle? Jensen, FTT or Saman?

For this one I'd go with Ghoddos given he carries the greater attacking and goal threat. Plus his cameo against Burnley has probably earned him his chance.

Definitely. What's the point for these players if they come on and do well, then don't get picked to start the next game?

Would love to see a 4 3 3 in this game. Am I right to say that this formation is a big risk when playing the established PL sides.

I do love the attacking intent it brings

It’d be a big risk for us as we rely on 3CBs to dominate both boxes and most PL teams won’t give us the freedom to have our FBs attack. But perhaps we could approach Norwich as a rerun of last season where both are Championship teams but they are missing their two best players. Particularly if we need to give Pinnock/Ajer more recovery time.

So we could go for:
Alvaro
Roerslev Pontus Zanka Henry
FTT Norgaard Janelt
Mbeumo Toney Canos

Risky and discourteous but doable.

Funny, but that team looks less attacking to me than 3-5-2 with Ghoddos sitting just behind the front two and Canos as an attacking RWB.

That was my thought to revert ot a 433, but I'd put Ghoddos in for FTT, as it gives a bit more protection to Alvaro.

Burnley was a baptism of fire for Alvaro, at a club that were eager to get points on the board.

I hope that a week on the training ground will see him reinvigerated.

The classic 3-1-3-1-2 formation featuring the superb attacking midfielder Ivan Toney in behind the clinical striker Saman Ghoddos, with Charlie Goode replacing the skipper at the back! What could possibly go wrong?

hard to judge him on sub appearance against Leicester when he started against villa he was MoM i think he is a better option than jensen and i had him in my starting 11 for burnley

Team almost picks itself.. wonder whether this would be a good game to go 4-3-3?

Fernandez, Roerslev, Pontus, Pinnock/Zanka, Henry, Norgaard, Janelt, Ghoddos, Canos, Toney, Mbeumo..

Subs: Cox, Goode, Stevens, Jensen, Bidstrup, Forss, Onyeka, Fosu, Pinnock/Zanka

We’ve had one really bad half, now isn’t the time to throw out the tactics that have done pretty well so far.

Ajer is a blow, but Zanka has done ok and don’t write off Charlie Goode just yet. Plus Norgaard can drop back if necessary.

If Bryan is fit then 9 of the 11 who are likely to start are probably our best players on current form…yes, at the moment Ghoddos offers more than Jensen or FTT. The bench is a bit light, but Roerslev and Bidstrup look capable at this level and some of you feel Fosu will do well. And we also have Jensen and FTT to bring on.

Yes he did it last season but i dont want to see that happen in the Prem.

We are struggling for numbers and form in the middle of the park so lets keep one of our best players in there.

If we lose Ethan/Pontus...................... I would rather see TF trust players in their positions ie play Goode, or change the formation up and play 4-3-3.

You could be right, as My Cynical said tho it could be time for 433 so we catch Norwich off guard and we get Canos further up the pitch. This is a massive massive game now because of our injuries.

I would suggest we want to be a bit more positive than this in this game! Especially if mbeumo isn’t fully fit.

Assuming all fit:

Fernandez
Zanka Pontus Ethan
Canos Norgaard Rico
Vitaly Ghoddos
Toney Mbuemo

Bench still has FTT, Jensen, Bidstrup, Forss, Goode, Tariq, Stevens, possibly Peart-Harris (Back to fitness), Cox

That's still a good starting 11 and reasonable options off the bench for the likes of Tariq, FTT etc to have an impact over 20 to 30 minutes.

The key for me is that the understanding between Fernandez and his back 3 CB's improves quickly.

I'd say that that's about as strong a team as we can we can start at the moment. Thomas Frank will put them in the right frame of mind to give a good account of themselves on Saturday.

If Mbeumo is fit he must start alongside Toney. Forss is very different style of player. With Mbeumo he's a lot more creative anyway plus his movement makes him easier for midfielders to find with a pass.

Worry is who is fit especially as there seems quite some doubt about Pinnock's hip needing rest

I’d play Canos on the left but agree this is a game for 433. I’d hope Frank has learned not to persist in a formation which we don’t have the top personnel available to execute and so having two reliable CBs against the weakest attack in the division is better than a scratch three which showed its vulnerabilities last weekend. This is a stronger, more confident and organised team than the one we lined up with against them last season in the Championship when we should have really got at least 4 points. And it’s facing a much weaker, disorganised and demoralised Norwich lacking Buendia and midfield bite.

I’d probably also play Ghoddos or Jensen instead of FTT to start as I’d want us to go for the throat to have someone playing balls to the front 3 rather than just outmuscle their midfield which is not the most committed anyway.
