Terry Butcher?

Greg Dyke was seen having dinner in a london hotel yesterday with Terry Butcher who coincidently has just left his management job and is free.

Butcher for Brentford????? Good/ Bad You Decide

Terry Butcher?

Wasn't Sven also with them at the table!

Terry Butcher?

It was a chinese all you can eat jobby with Adams, Perryman, Diash and Atkinson from what I'm told.

If true and it was linked to the vacant job (and it wasn't just a social thing) then I would say good.... but how would we afford his likley high wages?

Because, assuming he was successful, we wouldn't have to pay him off. Leroy and Fitz were probably on no more than £1500p/w each, but imagine what we've spent on managers this season (including payoffs).

Terry Butcher?

oh? you see when someone said that we were interested in a new manager with initials TB, I assumed it would be Tony Blair as he was going to be out of a job in a couple of weeks and could get into the club for pre-season?

i must have jumped to conclusions!

Terry Butcher?

Sounds good to me. He'd raise our profile higher than Allen ever did and be useful for attracting new players, most lower league players would want to play for him. Maybe there's question marks over his managerial ability but from what I remember of his time in Scotland his teams play the type of football we'd need in League Two

Terry Butcher?

Let's get some bloody t-shirts printed up of the legend.

Which England game was it where he had the bloodied bandage, was it against Italy in the World Cup qualifier or was it Sweden?

Was it Motherwell he managed? As an SPL team they can't have been all hoofball?

Sounds good!

Following negotiations today, Sydney FC and Terry Butcher are pleased to announce the settlement of all matters which allow a mutual and amicable parting of the ways after Terry Butcher’s resignation as Head Coach of Sydney FC.

It has been a full and hard season and once again Sydney FC has achieved considerable success, often in the face of daunting injury lists and considerable challenges.

Club Chairman Edmund Capon said, ‘ We have all admired Terry’s tenacity and drive in these often testing circumstances. On a personal note I would like to say that it has been a privilege to know Terry and to work with him. He is an impressive an indelible legend in football history and I and the Club wish him every success and fulfilment in the future.”

Terry Butcher?

but why does everyone rate Butcher?

Does he have experience in League 2?
Does he have a record of success in the lower leagues?
Does he have a record of success anywhere?
Is he a good coach, who could improve the players we have?

I suppose this coincides with the new red and white kit design? Sad to no longer see the bees in stripes though ;)

Took Motherwell to a top 6 place twice and a cup final when he took over a club in administration. The Sydney experience had as much to do with behind the scenes than on the pitch. Craig Brown rated him.

Could do worse.

Terry Butcher?

A great player in his day & exactly the sort of bloke you want as an on-field skipper, but the last bloke I would want actually in the dug-out defining the way we play.

Surely his many "expert summariser" (sic) outings emphasise that he has headed the football a few thousand times too many.

In the words of Peter Kay......NEXT!!!

Terry Butcher?

Yeah but in Scotland a top six also means bottom seven doesn't it! :fishing:

Im suggesting we select someone with a better record than Leroy, which it would seem Terry Butcher does not have.

Terry Butcher?

I think some people are letting Butcher's achievements for England cloud their judgement. No thanks......

Terry Butcher?

He should stick to talking about England on 5 Live

I think some people are letting Butcher's achievements for England cloud their judgement. No thanks......

:imwith:

He has a record which could only be described as average at best. He didn't do a great job at Coventry. He wasn't any better at Sunderland and his major achievement at Motherwell was getting his side to beat Celtic 2-1 on the final day of the season to cost them the title.

We can do a lot lot better than him.

Terry Butcher?

is this a joke? he was gonna go to australia recently to manage sydney - if he loves money at the expense of achievement that much then i doubt he'll manage us for £1,500 a week!!! :cutthecrap: :cutthecrap: :cutthecrap: :cutthecrap:

Terry Butcher?

Oh Dear...

Sydney FC were reduced to a frustrated outfit, driven to exhaustion by the ineptitude of the football policies thrust upon the side by the same people who thought it a good idea to hire the very man who brought the club to it's knees, the drunken, slovenly, bleak, mentally deranged and clueless English long-ball and gruff hack merchant, Terry Butcher.

I thought the Celtic contingent would love this rumour ;)

I hear our new away kit will be orange and all players will be issued with flutes ;) :fishing:

Terry Butcher?

If he is in the frame and reading this, could the GPG scupper the second Brentford management recruitment in 4 months?:fishing:

Terry Butcher?

Who is "only one steve sidwell" anyway? It's a first post by them and no details on the hotel, when, and whether anyone else was there.......

lol

I wonder if Butcher is a U2 fan. ;) Seriously though I just think that Butcher isn't a particular good manager and his track record is proof of that.

Terry Butcher?

ffs - we won't be happy until Alex Ferguson pitches up will we?

Here's an idea - how about when we appoint a new manager we give him a chance to park his arse in the chair before we start crucifying him. Unless of course, he's ex-Brentford which would be ok.

Terry Butcher?

I s he not about to be out of work and earning very little? Brentford may well attract TV & Radio summarisers because of it's location and added earning potential. ;)

:imwith: I don't think it matters who gets it, there will be people who will just say they're sh*t for the sake of it.

Yes we could get Leroy or Fitz back or Tony Adams- they have got worse win percentages (in England) than Butcher. That appointment would make the choice of Teddy look sensible!

Well said, who knows if he is part of this or not but Leroy, Fitz or Terry Butcher, you decide.

I didn't really want Adams and I would like Daish but I seem to remember Motherwell having a cracking run under Butcher and him being praised for the football they were playing and would not throw the toys if Butcher is talking to us.
