Is stan the man to save brentford?

What do the fans want for League 2 next season, pretty football like we were promised by Leroy or battling football with results!

At the end of the day results are all that matter!

:fishing:

I'd like to see pretty football with results thank you very much!! :sorted:

It seems to be a major misconception on this board that all you have to do in order to win games is to 'battle' and 'get stuck in'. That is just as ludicrous as saying you can win games with a team full of twinkle toed wingers I'm afraid....

Dunno your age Mr Cynical but the only manager in my time to have overseen "total football" at GP was Fred Callaghan, whose side for a while were pure entertainment with that great midfield and good forwards (even if we finished 11th every year ;) )
Perryman`s team played some nice stuff at times too but he too failed to get us up.
Struggling to think of any other manager who didnt favour a/ the direct stuff or b/ "normal football" which {lower league} players are best at

Barcelona we aint and never have been

True, but it doesn't take someone with 3 brain cells to realise that if "lump it forward, aim for a striker and miss out the midfield" isn't working for 80 minutes, or even half a season, then a tactical change is in order. Or does it? What's happened to the Brentford that could string a few passes together or even, you know, get a few crosses into the box? Absent this season, but at League One level the ability to kick a ball in the air 20-30 yards is an expected ability. Charlie Ide seems to have been the only player we've had this season who can get around the back and get a cross in. Sadly his crossing needs work and the dozy midfield have all been too asleep for the last 44 games to bother trotting 40 yards up the pitch in support. Barcelona we ain't and don't expect, but this season's team would probably go under in the League of Wales.

Oh I don't know... under Dodgin we played some fancy stuff and got promoted to boot. Don't think total football had been invented then though, maybe we were ahead of the times back then..

Terry Butcher?

Total football was invented by the Dutch in the early 1970s surely? Which would be before Dodgin's time at Brentford.

Perhaps, but maybe Dodgin actually invented the concept, then franchised it out to our clog wearing cousins? Maybe Cruyff was his secret love-child, conceived during his National Service days protecting Holland from the Soviet hordes?

Eh? Eh?

i hope he didn't shout! was he constructive or his usual 'tell the f^ckers to play with some f^cking pride Brian!'

standing with him at each home game leaves the ears ringing!

Terry Butcher?

Brentford invented the scientific method of football employed by John Beck- I'll find the info on this when I have time, but apparently we used this back in the early 50s in an attempt to get back up to the top division, employing a match statistician to analyse play.

Terry Butcher?

I saw Paul Groves in the Noshery this morning, having a cup of tea and a bacon sarnie.

He had a clipboard and pen and paper and appeared to be waiting for someone. :sorted:

So along with Butcher, Holdsworth and Jimmy Sirrel, that completes the 4 up for the job.

I'm backing Sirrell all the way

I totally agree what happy days, when Brentford had a mid-field with squeaky voices, iron fists and silky, attractive skills.

Terry Butcher?

The manager has been selected and will be announced this week, straight from the mouth of Mr Dyke.

Wow !

what a revelation....

In other news, Alex Ferguson will announce the Manchester United team, at some point this week, ahead of their European Semi Final.
Tony Blair will speak, at some point, on behalf of the government.

and Bananas will grow on trees

Anytime fella,

Don't forget the headline later in the week 'SmiffyBee, suspected of being a sarcastic genius' ;)

The question is do we all know who the new gaffer is?? :D

My money is still on Jimmy Sirrell......I was told this by Gash Bee, who was picking his lunch out of the PR's bins yesterday :sorted:

Terry Butcher?

Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow

There'll be sun!rofl

Considering your pronouncements that Darren Patterson would be Brentford manager last December and the latest boss would be announced on Saturday, you can't blame those who lack faith ;) :fishing:

It actually came from the man himself Mr Dyke. He wasn't alone also, his companion would of done a better job had they been incharge this season.

Terry Butcher?

Terry Butcher has a place on the outskirts of Stirling that he bought when the gaffs cost 250k ish according to a jocky friend of mine who lives nearby. This place has gone on the market for a cool £1.2 million!!!
Money won't be his major reason for work methinks.

Terry Butcher?

I spoke to Terry today as I bumped into him in town and he told me he has taken the job and looks forward to the challenge of keeping the BEES up next season.

Welcome to BFC Terry!
