Lets face it, we're not going to find any better than AS. Crystal ball tells me our next manager will be "young, promising and hungry" or a "has been" or a bit "mental". Ok ... my crystal ball is a bit indecisive, but we can't afford class managers ... and they wouldn't touch us anyway.

Better the devil you know and a penny in dogshit is better than a peanut

Callum Willock

Oli Skulason

And failed to get those players you mentioned out of League One.

It's difficult to compare where Scott's signings will end up but I suspect Dickson will be Championship at least and players like Wood, Weston, Bean, Phillips and Bennett will be good League One players - which after all is the level Sodje and Burton are playing at.

The Andy Scott Thread

Talk of sacking AS at this stage is nonsense IMHO. Yes he has baffled a lot of us with selections etc all season but he`s young and learning his trade.

For me ,last season he hardly got any signings wrong.

This season it looks like 2 or 3 signings have backfired and it worries me when you hear some of the rumours of what they are on and how long we have them for. Any manager is gonna sign the odd dud when signing/changing lots of players.

However AS is an intelligent bloke and i`d much prefer we give him the time he frankly deserves to turn the season around.

I put £50 on us to get promoted again this season at 12s , thinking last season`s momentum and the positive look of the new blood would put us as contenders.
Reality check is we`re toilet at the moment.... on yesterday`s gutless performance against a crap side we are relegation fodder,
and if i was a betting man my money would be on Gateshead to beat us next week. Team spirit looks shot at present.

Hope i`m wrong and the team show up next week, otherwise we may well be the "main game" of any highlights show :nono:

Come on u reds....

The Andy Scott Thread

Ridiculous to be calling for his sack as quite frankly the practice of getting rid of managers at the first sniff of potential disaster leads to a lack of stability and long term success.

I will agree that I am extremley conscerned with the performances in the main this season, I am far from impressed by AS criticising players in public and even more worried about our chosen method of play. On that basis Andy certainly needs to look at his performance as a Manager and I would hope that the Board take issue with him on all these fronts.

I have been worried about relegation for some time and I feel that the style of play that As seems to prefer will be his eventual undoing. Hoof and hope worked in a poor division last year but will not work this season. AS needs to review the game plan and start to allow his players to actually play football on the deck as this just might halt the decline.

There does seem on the fact of it to be something not right between players/Manager etc quite what this is I dont know, in fact it may be the wrong conclusion but it is the imnpression given and that is very worrying.

There is time to put things right however the Board need to make it clear that should it look that relegation is a likely option then his position will need to be considered as we just cannot afford to retun to the bacement division.

Phil Holder

There is no way Andy Scott will be going on Wed. He is having a rough ride at the moment. but he will get over it. You cannot sack a guy that took you up last season. He needs time, and that was always on the cards imo.

What about Phil Holder wasn't he sacked after taking us up.

Guess you all know I've never been a fan of Andy, I find him arrogant, cold and a bit self serving.

But I'm not asking him out for a pint or to be a godfather to my kids, in fact the reasons I don't like him probably make him a very good manager.

He is learning, made a few mistakes, yes, but he's done a lot more right than wrong.

It is not right at the mo, and I do worry if he can't handle the players, but we owe him at least until Christmas (maybe later looking at the Dec fixtures) to turn it around.

Who knows... By then we could be in the play offs having beaten Leeds and looking forward to playing Chelsea away in the cup.

Still can happen!

Does debate intimidate you then?

I hardly think there's a juggernaut going to get AS out. But are you really surprised that someone was mad enough to start this thread after some of the recent results?

AS wont go anywhere unless he takes us back down.

This is silly thinking abut sacking AS after 3 months of the season lets give him some time to sort it out, probably his summer signings hasn't been good enough as they are no better than last season's players but hopefully he will sort it out and try and get some loan players in,i think we need about 3-4 players and then we should be able to survive in this division.

2. AS has helped us attract cash to keep us alive. For all those espousing the 'grass is greener philosophy', get on the web and read about Southend United.Or Cheltenham for that matter. Or Tranmere.Or Wycombe.

3. AS has a brain. Yes, he lacks experience, but bright people tend to learn and adapt. He will.

4.We have had a bad start. As amateur football people, we can seen the gaps - centre midfield in particular. As a professional, do we really think Andy Scott is blind to this?

5.Yes, AS has allowed himself to be unguarded in press conferences. We can all drop our guard after a bad day at work. Watch Fergie or Moyes deal with a bad day, and learn. They give nothing to the journalists and get on with the job of managing behind the scenes.AS will learn this.

6. He has attracted good players to this club, and he will again. If things do not get better in the short term he will bring in new blood.

7. Andy Scott is Brentford 'through and through'. People with passion work day and night to put things right.I am sure he will do what it takes.

lol AS can take the stick. He can also give it out. He has pissed off a few players believe me. They're told to play to a system and are frightened of making mistakes, which is stifling creativity.

The Andy Scott Thread

Why do we have to be like other clubs wanting to sack our manager after a bad run. Look at the bigger picture, it has been proved that the most successful clubs in the long term are those that keep and support their managers. Andy is Brentford through and through and he is learning, give him a chance. Also who would you replace him with who is better, Russell Slade? Get over it and support him, as he and the team need our support more than ever. IMO we are not far away from being able to achieve a mid table position which I think most supporters would have been happy with this season. Remember this is not only about results on the pitch it is also about managing/reducing the debt off of it which has been built up be previous boards/managers. Yes its no fun watching the way we are playing presently and it hurts, but don't go down the same route as everyone else, keep faith in Scotty and the boys and judge at the end of season.

The Andy Scott Thread

Too early for any sensible consideration of sacking a title-winning manager when you're not even in the drop zone, though we aren't playing well and haven't done so for several weeks.

Looks as though we were a bit unlucky with deflections for the first 2 goals on Saturday, which won't help a side low on confidence.

I have no problem with the manager criticising players after a bad performance, though think there is a fine line between criticising the team (or parts of it) and destroying individuals... Harry Redknapp's comment last season that his wife could have scored from a chance missed by Darren Bent was IMHO how not to do it.

If at the end of the year we are in the drop zone after a continued run of poor results, then the position may need to be reviewed. But for now let's get behind the manager

The Andy Scott Thread

I don't think anyone really wants Scott sacked but if it makes people feel better but saying he shouldn't be, then so be it.
We're 2-0 down against a poor side, nowhere in Yeovil's league as to playing ability against us and the arrogance of saying we have a squad that needs nobody else at the moment leaves a bench with Kabba as the forward that could change things! Worrying times but not a sackable offence. I feel better now.

We were rubbish a few weeks ago and getting worse, it's not fickle to be peed off after another disgusting defeat. Nobody seriously wants Scott out but maybe we want some fight back in our side and the crap areas taken care of. Apart from the sh*te performances supporters are getting fed up with the post match interview being the same broken record each week. The players are doing it in training but not on match day, apparently. Some one said the other week that we train against our selves and not the higher calibre of league one players.Even real sh*t players should give 110% though.

Not when he was at Peterborough. Daggers is his limit.

Everyone failed at Posh before the money came in.
Still was on the radio during the journey to Exeter, he comes across as a very likeable chap and it was a good listen. The job he's done so far after losing 6 players from last season should win him manager of the year. The club had a brilliant season last season and then they were ripped apart, it would have been easy for them to fell sorry for themselves but credit to them for what they are doing.

Firstly, although I am worried and frustrated by our performances of late and at the moment feel we are on the fast train to Dogfightsville to answer the question...Has AS passed his best before date- No, of course not!

However, why are the players doing their own thing on the pitch. Whoever is guilty of this needs a kick up the ****ing arse! why is this being tolerated by the rest of the dressing room? I find it hard to believe that someone like Kevin O'Connor with his experience is allowing this. I just hope it is not a marker of something else going on. Maybe it has something to do with AS's public comments.
I agree with Busy Bee that they should be dealt with in house and the whole squad needs a rocket and if necessary other players need to be given their chance now. Weston must start and Karleigh must play now Phillips is injured and what the hell is he doing not telling his manager he is injured! He should be fined for that. How can we blame AS solely if one of your senior players is not giving him all the info he needs on the day. FFS.

Extra encouragement needed...

It is quite understandable that most of us are concerned about the recent run of poor results and below-par performances.
But, please, let us not get carried away with things.
Most clubs-and managers- go through spells like this.
Now is not the time for putting pressure on our young Manager.
Instead, let us really get behind him, and the squad, and give them that extra bit of encouragement.

Did you go to some of the games under Leroy, Scott Fitz and Terry Butcher

Perhaps you will be reminded of this when we're playing Accrington next season ?

I'm not saying we should bring back Martin Allen, but let's examine the facts...

AS says he believes in the passing game but what do we see week in week out...the midfield being by-passed ( probably not a bad thing) and long hopeful balls up to Charlie, so are these his tactics or are the players not following his instructions ?
At least Allen was up front about the way he wanted his team to play ? He saved us from falling out of the league and took us to 2 play-offs, so perhaps all the people who knock the guy ought to cast their minds back.
He may not have taken us up but IMO it was the best time I have ever had watching the Bees.

So pehaps it's not beyond the realms of possibility that one day MA will return ;)

Let's have a few other facts:

Allen also signed Steve Claridge, Isaiah Rankin, Ricky Newman, Callum Willock, Paul Brooker.

Scott has signed a lot of excellent players on loan (Hamer, Rhodes, Clarke, Wilson) as well as the signings of Bean and Bennett (if you think back to last season).

Allen's History in FL Management:

Titles - 0
Promotions - 0
Play-Offs - 3 (3 lost)
Relegations - 1

Scott's History in Management:

Titles - 1
Relegations - 0

Allen saved us from relegation to League Two. Scott guided us away from falling out of the League all together.

I cant believe there is even discussion on the topic.
Got give him 5 seasons minimum. We will stay up this season of that I have no doubt.
We all knew it was going to be tough so leave him to get on with it.

The Andy Scott Thread

It may not be much consolation but after 15 games we are still the highest placed team promoted from L2 which shows you how tough this league is. Saturdays performance sounded awful yet l still believe in AS and the squad he has assembled. l do have a lot of sympathy with the complaints in the midfield and therefore l would go for a 3 - 6 - 2 for Gateshead and beyond. That should fool everyone.......

The Andy Scott Thread

I must hold my hands up and admit that I was 100% against the appointment of AS as manager. Last season ,although we finished up as champions ,we still turned in some sh*tty performances, ie Chester,Morcambe,Macclesfield etc. In truth we were the least sh*ttiest time in the division. If it hadn't been for Rhodes and Clarke, **** knows where we would of finished up. And I'm not taking anythig away from our Charlie either. WE had a excellent keeper in Hamer as well, and he is sorely missed. I must admit I did warm toward Andy Scott more and more as the season progressed. On paper we have a decent looking team, but it's been said our midfield to say the least is weakI still think it was wrong to let Elder go. One thing he was good at was roughing up defenders. Can anyone see Cort doing that? So although I'm not an AS fan,he must be left alone to do what he is being paid for. There is no one better out there at our level.

Here endeth the sermon.

The Andy Scott Thread

No more Martin Allen, please. If he loses his job at Cheltenham, his next appointment will be at an even smaller club than them. He won't be returning to Brentford.

These are our seven league games starting December 1st:
Colchester (H)
Tranmere (A)
Leeds (H)
MK Dons (A)
Gills (A)
Charlton (H)
Saints (H)

A team lacking confidence is going to find that schedule very tough. AS better get things sorted out in November or I predict we will be in the bottom two, confidence torn to shreds.

FFS you lot. In August AS was the Messiah now some of you want to sack him.
This is beyond fickle. If we sack promising managers every time we have a bad run we will never get anywhere.

LETS REMEMBER WE ARE STILL MILES BETTER OFF THAN WE WERE BEFORE AS, AND HE HAS WON LEAGUE 2 WITH VIRTUALLY NO MONEY. HE STILL HASNT REALLY HAD ANY MONEY COMPARED TO MANY TEAMS IN THIS DIVISION. SMELL THE COFFEE WE HAVE THE BEST MAN AVAILABLE FOR THE JOB. GET BEHIND HIM AND THE TEAM.

Absolutely true. All teams go through bad spells and talk of sacking is way over the top. I must admit I was not over impressed when he was appointed manager, but in his first full season we were promoted as champions. Some might say it was a crap league that we won, nevertheless we won it.

Even in August and early September I could see that as the season progressed we were going to struggle. Compared to last year some of his signings and use of the loan system appear to be poor. Maybe a reason for loan players is that with seven subs many clubs are reluctant to let players go out on loan. Personally I think he made mistakes with the two goalkeepers, both of whom give me little or no confidence. Also the strike force is about as potent as a poor guy suffering from prostrate cancer. In general I think he under estimated the difference in quality between League 1 and 2, but there is still time to turn it around.

As some say he is still learning his trade and that is true of every manager. I am sure he is big enough to take the stick. Last year he accepted all the plaudits, now this year it's the stick. Lets see where we are at the turn of the year before fanning the sacking flames. Personally I believe we will have a heavy flirtation with relegation, but somehow avoid the drop.
