Hunt in midfield for O´Connor, who moves to right back and Osborne plays in the heart of defence, if Bennett goes back to Reading ?
A lot of assumptions there !
Up the Bees from Futerventura :)

O'Connor will stay in CM

Bennett will be suspended

Osborne will stay at RB

Assume makes an "A.s.s." of "U" and "me" :sorted:

I was thinking longer term, not for tomorrow ... but when Alan Bennett´s loan extension lapses at the end of January.

Sounds like a good signing to me. Cover for the midfield battles that lie ahead!

Knows AS from his Leyton O days :suspect:

Local (ish) lad looking to get back south. Has six months to prove himself of a contract for next season when we will be back in Div 1! :sorted:

Hopefully a player in the Hargreaves mold who will roll his sleaves up and get stuck in. :sorted:

If he's half as good as Evo was when we signed him from the Shrews we are on a winner! :sorted:

The last thing we need is Bean out for a few weeks.

Could it be time to unleash Poole in CM just behind the front 2 and ask Williams, Wood and KOC to work like feck?

I would reckon that Hunt was signed specifically to fill in for this kind of situation, and I doubt Mr.442 is likely to drop Poole in the hole (much as many of us may like to see it).

According to that piece on the Shrew's OS, he came off on his debut with conclusion? :suspect: :D

My medical book says this is simlilar to concusion but 'L' of a lot worse

and still only good enough for Shrewsbury :grey:

errr, won't that be the shrewsbury that everyone thought were the best team we'd seen at GP when we drew (should have won) earlier in the year??

i ask you

scott has generally signed good players so far, we are second in the league with games in hand, and we sign an experienced midfielder when our squad looks stretched and still people moan.

welcome onboard david. good luck with the keyboard warriors (most of whom hated Bean earlier this season but have been suprisingly quiet since his brace on boxing day).

I've always rated Bean and yet I think Hunt is a bad signing. There must be cheaper, less injury prone Premiership/Championship youngsters out there who could cover central midfield. At least we haven't given him a 2 year contract.

do we want a young kid thrown straight into a promotion drive - his experience, I believe, will be invaluable.

How do you know how much we are paying him???

:imwith:

The Shrewsbury web site confirms that David Hunt had his contract paid up (presumably at a discount) through end of June and therefore money for the next few months is secondary to demonstrating to either Andy Scott or other watching clubs that he is fit, raring to go and looking for a contract in the summer. He has played around two hundred matches at this level and I would have thought he is exactly what we wanted rather than an untried Premiership youngster whom South Wales Bee supposes would be 'cheaper'. For every Steve Sidwell out there there are plenty who never make the adjustment from pinging the ball around at the Academy to the 'in your face' rough and tumble of League Two football.

If Bennett doesn't sign for anyone else in the transfer window it seems likely he will extend his loan to the end of the season.

There must be cheaper...

My wild-a*sed guess is that this is a cheap deal, cheaper than an untried Premiership kiddie. He wanted to move back to London, his contract was paid off and Andy Scott knows him; we've only signed him until the end of the season. He seems only to have been injury-prone at STFC and we need some "in-yer-face" midfield cover, not a premiership nancy boy; we're in League 2. Bean is turning out to be our key man and I doubt that Hunt will be as mobile but lets' give him a chance, eh?

........I was hoping to see David Hunt......

I've just texted Andy Scott and asked him to play Hunt up front with Simon Brown and drop Charlie and Bowditch.

Good man - any chance I can have the number because i've got some thoughts along the same lines about the defence and i'm more than prepared to share them

He's having dinner at the moment but he said he'd prefer you to wait until you see how Charlie does at centre back in place of Bennett before rejigging the rest of the defence.......the meek shall inherit the earth......if that's alright with the rest of you of course

Ok, when he's ready, but i've got John Mackie waiting on the other end of the phone and he's having dinner with Lee Thorpe in Lincoln so the sooner the better really. Cheers - in anticipation :sorted:

Why on earth are we bringing in an experienced, available, london based player that AS rates and has been imterested in for a while when we are light in midfield anyway? (Joke, I can't do those icons)

Why don't people just let him get on with the job he has done bloody well to date. So far in his reign as Manager on his own, his wheeling and dealings players wise have IMHO been excellent. A couple of the short term loanees might not have set the world alight but all others have benefitted the team and made us stronger.

Let the man do his job, some people need to understand the days of paying out hefty fees on exciting, record breaking transfer targets isn't going to happen if we plan on surviving. AS appears to be following the brief of producing a winning team within financial guidelines and long may it continue.

Obviously wasn't part of the shrews promotional push:rolleyes:

Lets hope he's a part of ours:shrug:

Good signing in the sense that if we lost, O'Connor or Bean right now, we'd be screwed.

Smith's not match fit, Pead's injured and erm is there anyone else who can play there available apart from Ochoa?

Experienced player, bit injury prone. Wants to be in London (a good thing ala Bean) and I'd imagine on **** all wages, as Shrewsbury paid him up.

6 months to prove himself. If he's desperate to stay in London then he needs to perform, either to impress here or somewhere else.

Makes sense for all parties concerned.

is the rumour that Bee H is stepping down as CEO "in january" cover for him being signed as a squad player before the end of the transfer window true?

i can see a conspiracy theory here.........cesc fabregas was going to sign but Bee H says he can fill in until May........

he's got a foot like a piston engine........

The David Hunt thread

Bit of an underwhelming signing given our stated priority is a right winger and a striker but I can see his use as a squad player especially if he does come cheap.

Can't believe the moans here. We have a settled side and midfield so to bring in a keen, hungry experienced midfield player with a good team ethic as cover at what is likely to be a low cost seems to be an excellent move with very little downside.

He also brings something new to the party with his long throws and dangerous free kicks.

Good move.

1-0 down with only a few minutes to go, Hunt with a long throw into the box, Elder nods down for Charlie to react quickest, back of the net 1-1.

The David Hunt thread

Yes.
Let us give this guy a chance.
Also, from what I have read, his long throws could be very useful indeed as an extra option, if and when needed.Especially when Nathan returns...

if we won the champions league ten years in a row there would be moans here.

ONE OFthe all times fav aswell ,you dont wanna go up brentford or
its brentford innit , Good signing imo roll on playing a game again and some more points:wave::wave:

2nd in the table with games in hand before any additions to the squad and people are still whinging. As I've said before, some people on here aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

For those who need an update, so far moans I recall since Christmas

1) Moaning that AS still was responsible for John Mackie and Simon Brown

2) We're not serving up sparkling football and tonking teams

3) Nathan Elder is the worst centre forward in this division

4) AS is clusless on substitutions

5) He's mad playing Poole as he's lazy

6) He's mad not playing Poole as he's our best player

7) Adam Newton is the worst captain we've ever had, and that John Halls is also useless

8) AS has messed up, lack of planning, when Wilson, Bennett and Hamer all leave we're going down

9) No atmosphere anymore so that's why I'm not singing or cheering

10) Why don't we spend gamble amd spend lots of money on anyone available, it's obvious we have no ambition

Unbelieveable, God knows what people would have to complain about if we were struggling!

sonofabee - I'm delighted with how we're doing in the league, but this doesn't mean that I'm not allowed to voice my honest opinion on a new signing.

I'll take back the "cheaper" part of my earlier comment as he's clearly not going to be on much but his injury record is terrible and he generally doesn't seem at all highly rated by fans of his previous clubs, which I don't think is a good sign.

I'd be delighted to be proved wrong.

The David Hunt thread

How can a 26 year old with 200 appearances have a "terrible injury record".
