The Gary Smith thread

No way. Kev has been outstanding so far at CM. Smith will have to wait for his chance and make the most of it. But there's no reason to break up the partnershaip between Beano ans Kev.

I think you're right.Gary will bench warm and appear in little cameo roles. He'll then get pissed off and hand in a transfer request and be off in Jan........................................

The Gary Smith thread

he is a big player for us and having him back is going to be like a new signing.

I remember MA saying this about Eddie Hutchinson, he hardly used him in the end

The Gary Smith thread

I think, based on Beans comments recently about his partnership with KOC, that Bean would be the person who would make way for him, but this would have to be if he was OFF form.

When Smith is back, it'll put pressure on Bean, and KOC as Bean could take KOC position as a holding/playmaking midfielder.

The Gary Smith thread

Bean and Smith would be AS's ideal centre mid combination IMHO.

KOC has done well and deserves to keep his place until things need changing.

The Gary Smith thread

He's going to have to wait for his chance imho. KOC give Bean license to get forward and the last couple of games Bean has been outstanding. Was a class above any player on the park against Bradford. I think we are starting to see a true box to box midfield general now he's found his feet at this level and got his confidence back. Bean is the Keane of the lower leagues without the growling, snarling and diving in:sorted:

You could almost make a chant out of that, can't quite think of a tune to go with it though :D

The Gary Smith thread

Maybe he'll feature on the bench on Friday? Never know, none of us expected Halls and Williams back so quick...

The Gary Smith thread

Gary Smith is much needed in my opinion. He is the only player to play CM that is an attacking player. Playing with Bean and KOC for example is far too defensive.

The Gary Smith thread

We need Smith back in the team once fully fit, he adds a bit of flair and creativity to the team looks for that killer pass. However dont really want to break up the bean koc partnership as they are both playing well. Smith playing though would probably result in more goals.

With Gary Smith back think we will see Maca scoring more goals :sorted:

:O

He has 11 before the turn of the year!

Thats more than our top socrer over the season for most of the last 5 years.

Anyone know the latest? Was expecting him back by now.

Saw him running and jumping over the Braemar Road side, I see his mate up here from time to time but I've given up asking him as he rings Gary and tells me he's fit for the weekend. Thios started at Barnet away and stopped a few weeks ago when I realised either he's mad or Gary is taking the pee, I suppose you could throw in that perhaps GS keeps breaking down.

That's what I keep thinking. Would be nice for an official update on him. At this rate he'll miss the whole season.

He wouldn't make the starting X1 so don't worry about him:rolleyes:

Saw him in the forecourt yesterday. It wasn't a petrol station forecourt. That is all.

Smith would still be a nice option to have though. Definately in the 16 man squad.

But the GPG sponsored his shirt. What have we done.

Its a closely kept secret but its time it was out in the open - when Bean arrived he was a defensive midfielder who needed to be converted to an attacking one; modern science came to the rescue when parts of Smiths DNA were cloned and implanted into Bean. Whilst Bean seams to have benefited from this procedure it has cost Smith so much that he has had to take to only appearing at places where Bean is not in attendance (rejection syndrome).
I can reveal that I came upon this info by carefully reading between the lines on many of P Gilhams emails. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Attacking Midfielders (SoPCAM) is investigating this matter.

If you were to read threads at the time of his signing some on here told people, he was a box to box player and not purely a holding midfielder. ;)

Seems he may actually get on the pitch, at some stage, tomorrow.

I didn't see anything in the article to suggest that. He has been out so long and hasn't had anything like a pre-season. He'll need several reserve/closed door games before he can even sit on the bench IMHO.

The Gary Smith thread

if he really is training... and getting close to fitness we're probably waiting for something like grimsby or barnet in the first few weeks of march to get him back on the pitch. unfortunately I doubt he'll start any matches this season unless there's an injury. doubt he'd be able to catch up fitness wise with everyone. shame, he looked a great player last season. what are the chances of him getting another contract at the end of the season...?

Most likely with a fork before the game to help with the drainage of the pitch

If you look at his injury record with us last season and now this and also his record at MK Dons which was also very poor. Then I would be surprised if he got another contract.

The Gary Smith thread

Definitely worth keeping at the club if fully fit and wages are not too high.

Debatable - if were in league 1 id imagine we can find a player just as good, who isnt as injury prone. Im sorry but there is no room for sentiment in football.

The Gary Smith thread

Pay as you play contract only...with his record he will be lucky to get anything else, shame but as said above no room for sentiment.

not sure a croydon paper is a reliable source of information, surely Smith will be gone soon
