The long throw tactic

The long throw tactic

Yes. get the ball in the box lad.

I completely disagree. We score from about 1 in every 100 corners at the moment (probably even less than that), and you are generally even less likely to score from a long throw in. It is sensible/logical to play a short throw in, retain possession and build an attack to your strengths (i.e. passing and movement). If we were a team that had a few lumps and liked to play more direct (ala Andy Scott), then playing to our strengths would mean the long throw would be a favorable idea.

None of the best teams in the world use long throws. Do you think all these highly paid and qualified coaches are all missing a trick that only the football genius Tony Pulis has picked up on? Somehow I don't think so.

There couldn't be any harm once in a while varying it up though?

No one wants to see only long throws, but the occasional long throw wouldn't be the harbinger of the anti-football apocalypse

What does Ade have to say on this?

The long throw tactic

If Harlee is a good offensive header of the ball I would hate to see a poor one. The guy wins about 90% of all the balls that go into the penalty area but only gets 1 or 2 on target per season. If he could learn to direct a header he would score 10 a season.

Problem is Harlee has a head shaped like a fifty pence piece which therefore makes it difficult to determine the angle which the ball flies off at. He didn't do badly with his head in the Play Off final for our one bright spot.

I know what you mean, but I would rather see a quick long throw than one where everyone gets in to the box and prepares for it like a corner. If Clayton wins a thrown in, gets the ball and throws it quickly to Forshaw who is making a run through the middle that is all well and good. But I have seen us do this a few times already this season anyway, so I don't see what the issue is with our current set up!
