He actually made Jason Roberts sound well-informed and interesting, and that's saying something!

It was actually Jason Roberts I was comparing him with and at least Owen's Mouvember effort detracted from his rather turgid punditary. Mr Roberts didn't even have that saving grace..................

The Michael Owen thread

Not suprised he's not worked out.

Will he train enough to be able to play football at that level? Don't get the impression his heart is really in football anymore. Has all the money he needs and would rather be out training his horses. Hope I'm wrong?

The Michael Owen thread

Real shame what's happened to him. He could have been THE England all-time great with most goals scored etc - until his hamstring went the first time.

The Michael Owen thread

Will retire at the end of the season

The Michael Owen thread

A true legend and a decent bloke. Shame his career is ending.

The Michael Owen thread

Had terrible bad luck with injuries in his later career, without that would surely have challenged Bobby Charltons England goalscoring record.

Good luck with the GG's

The Michael Owen thread

Always liked Michael Owen, what he did in football at such a young age was incredible. Every schoolboys dream, scoring for England in the World Cup Finals. Good family man too

The Michael Owen thread

Yeah comes across as intelligent and a decent bloke in interviews, a shame on his injury problems, but fortunately today people are focussing on what he did archive rather than what he wasn't able to.

The Michael Owen thread

Great shame what injuries did to him, would have flown by Charlton's goalscoring record. Really wanted him to recapture some form at Stoke. That goal against the Argies.........Wow!! Roy of the rovers stuff.

The Michael Owen thread

Hope he gets the chance to bang in a couple of goals before the end of the season

The Michael Owen thread

yep it's a pity to think of what might have been, but the good times he did give us were some of the best :sorted:

The Michael Owen thread

Loved watching him play for England, felt he should have won more caps particularly under the early Capello regime when he chose to pick donkeys like Heskey and Kevin Davies instead of him.

An old fashioned striker, played off the shoulder. I think the way the game has changed he's becoming slightly less effective with teams looking to play one up front it never really suited him.

My favourite Owen goal was against Portugal in Euro 2004.

The Michael Owen thread

Not sure he's a legend as he's not done, much for the last nine years

Depends upon your definition of Legend I suppose, it's a much over used word in Football today.

He was a world class striker in his heyday and deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as one of this country's great strikers. His nature and single mindedness never endeared him to the fans of the clubs he represented but he has always struck me a decent kind of bloke and family man. He wasn't given to hyperbole and playing to the gallery off the pitch but that doesn't make the achievements on the pitch any the less. The statistics speak for themselves.

Injuries have blighted the latter part of his career but he deserves the accolades which have come his way.

Except score goals regularly at all his clubs (bar Stoke) - despite injuries disrupting his career and winning a league title and League Cup you mean?

The Michael Owen thread

He won those by default rather than much of a contribution...great goalscorer yes..legend no

:imwith:he should have been an England legend, but due to injuries..

The Michael Owen thread

His biggest mistake was joining Newcastle, his career never really recovered after that.

neither did Alan Shearer.. he won **** all!!

Really? Not thought of highly at Newcastle at all - many fans there despise him, not exactly a success at Man U either.

Agree with HanworthBee here - good goal scorer in his day yes, but legend? not for me ..... lived of that Argentina goal for too long ...

Mostly pace. His announcement seems a bit pompous to me reminds me of DLT leaving Radio 1.

The Michael Owen thread

Think mr Travis has other worries now!!

What's pompous about it? Sounded quite sincere to me whatever the relative merits of his status in the annals of English strikers legendary or not:confused:. Personally thought it was quite touching the time he took to thank his family for their support over his career.

A great player whos proffesionalism will be missed.

He had a great career and was a great servant for England.

Loves his horses too much. More likely to be a horse trainer, like Mick Channon, than a football coach....

The Michael Owen thread

Not sure what he can offer the fa that won't be a jobs for the boys...never really improved on the push it past him and leg it....certainly no future coach.....my bet is he will be into the horses

I thought that but then I heard him om TV a few weeks ago when he said training/ racing horses would not be his life once he retired from football, he didn't like them that much is the impression he gave.

He has been looking for a career in the media and that maybe is where he is bound. He could certainly do better than the MOTD lot.

The Michael Owen thread

Can't see him finding a role at the FA as History would suggest that he puts Michael Owen first in everything he does. Could get a " shop window" job with them but nothing else

As for TV do we really need another " nice" pundit who won't say anything to upset the status quo??

Reckon he should stick with his horses and just enjoy his millions unless he wants to really go for it and fund his home town club

The Michael Owen thread

Sorry, couldn't give a crap what Newcastle or Man Ure fans think of him. 40 goals for England makes him a legend. FACT!

Not sure really, he doesn't really sound like a natural talker, though his grammar is good from what I've heard. No one on BBC TV apart from Pat Nevin has the balls to call it as they see it.

The Michael Owen thread

I heard him on motd as the expert summariser bloke who sits next to the commentator and he was surprisingly good. He offered a lot of insight into how a player would react and what he'd be thinking when talking about the match.

He definitely has a future in that role IMHO.

The Michael Owen thread

He's down there among the worst pundits - a couple worse I've heard would be Garth Crooks and Jimmy Case.

The Michael Owen thread

His daughters on love island...apparently
Is that a cross between "Fantasy Island" and "The Love Boat"? Or is it an excuse for a load of illicit knobbing?
