If you've voted then your choice is in italics . . .

cunning! i see what you did there! but ta! (although i do think that i could have remembered who i voted for - but appreciate that anyway!)

The New Manager Thread

When you look at that list we should be able to get someone decent in!

The New Manager Thread

I hear that McLaren bloke who recently managed England is available

The New Manager Thread

Didn't Paul Simpson jump ship after getting Carlisle promoted?

not sure that is quite accurate. the bloke almost saved carlisle from relegation when they were about 20 points adrift (that might be an exaggeration). then got them straight back up first time. then promoted - and then PNE snapped him up. so "jumping ship" is a bit harsh. and certainly wasn't a move to a team in a division lower......:D

The New Manager Thread

Surely KD has to get this appointment right or his position becomes untenable?!

How will the process work ?
Will it be different to the recent appointment processes ?
Will the same people responsible for the appointments of TB, LR and SF be involved ?

We need to get this one right, it might be best if KD, GD, etc are not involved in this one !

A lot depends on the salary offered, A lot of assistant managers in the Championship are on 100+. So we are as usual, beggars, not choosers.

MA would add at least 1,000 to the gate instantly. At around £10 a head, he would make up his own extra salary by February...

I realise that, but i was pointing out the irony of the post.

We cannot expect a manager who has success at the club to stay, any successful manager will be looked at by other clubs.

I'd rather have a manager stay 1 season that got us promoted than one that has 1 season and gets us relegated and is sacked.
There is no loyalty from anyone in football so why should we expect any back.
I don't think MA would be interested anyway. He can bide his time and wait for a much better option imho.

The New Manager Thread

MA absolutely MUST NOT be in the running at all.... he'd only jump at the first opportunity to go to a higher league AGAIN which would only further de-stabilize our club!
At least we would then get compensation instead of paying-off another failure...

The New Manager Thread

This bunch of muppets surely cannot be entrusted to get it right for a fourth time!!! :nono:

I think we could all see that Leroy was the wrong decison and that Butcher was a PR stunt. God knows who is next.

Dickens and Dykes knowledge of football is nil yet this are the blokes that are going to decide who will lead this club forward! No chance with this lot of smug, arrogant tossers on the board.

Dyke, Dickens, Rogers et al all need to clear off before this club even takes a half step forward.

The New Manager Thread

All common sense says that someone like Cotterill or Neale Cooper or even Mike Newell would be a good scrapper to get us out of the mire, but i have this irrational desire for some good times again. And it cannot be denied that the MA days were certainly lively......

The New Manager Thread

People really do have short memories. Allen was constantly on the look out for the next job, his tactics were nothing short of shocking, he always sat back after we went 1-0 up, even if we took a 2nd minute lead and most of all, he wanted more money in L1 so he isn't gonna settle for the budget at the moment. I know he probably would have gone regardless of the budget but, do you really think he'll come back with Dyke here? Get real.

Also, I feel sorry for anymanager who comes to us as he is always in the shadow of Allen. Great times, move on. It is a part of history time for a new chapter.

The New Manager Thread

Cotterill or Alex Inglethorpe-but would he leave a comfortable job at Spurs ?

The New Manager Thread

also to be fair to the other guys, i think any new manager would stick 1000+ on the gate at first. more if you count the ST holders who have been staying away.

hope is hope whether it wear a tank top or not.

This is very true in his final season with us. MK Dons lost promotion as he went all negative, now Ince has them winning 5-0, 4-0, 3-0 by always playing winning football.

Given the range of Dykes "contacts" take your pick from any of the BBC pundits or BBcCsport columnists!

Graham Taylor anyone???

Now if only Dyke had contacts at Sky.... The joint management team of Jeff Stelling, Charlie Nicholas, Phil Thompson & Paul Walsh would get us up the leagues in no time! lol

The New Manager Thread

Get Newell on the list.
He would be a great shout.

He would be as far as management ability goes, but as things stand, he is the very last person I would choose. He is someone Brentford could do without at the moment.

If Cotterill would drop to L2, he is a good option. Daish is the other contender, but that would involve more £££ in compensation. The criteria should be either a knowledge of the non-league scene or good contacts.

Is Chris Hughton still on the coaching staff at Spurs or did he go along with Jol? He would represent a gamble though.

The New Manager Thread

not sure if anyone's stated it earlier, but we could well do without anyone looking to expand their media career whilst with us.

MA, TB even dear old Steve Claridge (I bet he throws his hat in the ring) popping up all over 5-Live, Talksport, Sky Sports really grates - it's not raising the profile of the club, it's raising their profile and definitely detracts and stops concentrating on their day job.

Re Parkinson, take your point GeeBee, I'd forgotten he was at charlton, and that he'd done the dirty on Huddersfield to take that job, but maybe he's ready to stick his head back over the parapet now - Being a good number 2 for too long can lead to you being type-cast for want of a better phrase.

The New Manager Thread

frank burrows would be my choice

vast experience at this level of the game
(turned cardiff around when they were in a shocking mess)

is available and wants to manage
a real footballing man
and after beating cancer, reviving brentford should be easy

ST holders are counted whether they go or not. So there could be just 500 in GP but the gate/capacity will still say 2500 in official figures.

i know. what i meant was that we'd get 1000+ on the gate, but then more in the ground once you count the STs coming back. sorry sorry i think faster than i type...

Going 1-0 up....oh happy days! :sorted:

The New Manager Thread

Perhaps there should be a proper poll at GP a bit like the one Luton had. At least we could blame ourselves if it all ends in tears again.

I just hope we get it right this time, the consequences of another bad choice would be immense.

The New Manager Thread

id have Newell he done well at Luton

The New Manager Thread

another poll, not made public !

the anyone but MA and anyone but AS, should be made aware, that Terry Butcher, can be called upon in both catergories, and is currently unemployed. :sorted:

The New Manager Thread

I would go for Cotterill just over Daish as if Matthew Benham does give him a kitty (could someone update me if I am wrong), then I would trust Cotterill rather than Daish with the funds.

The only way we can get out of this mess is if we invest in a decent midfielder (i.e. Moore) and a mobile striker (i.e. not Facey :D )

Think if we stay up and it is due to the transfer funds made available then Benham comes out of this looking like a hero whilst the board are made to look like even bigger prats!

As I said though, is Benham still gonna give 200k to the manager?

What about Leroy!?...Everyone deserves a second chance in life!

Yes he was on the look out but who doesn't apply for jobs when in their current roles? I expect most people do.

And with regards to his sitting back - at least we were consistently having leads to defend.

Im not saying he will come back though I hope he does - it was a lot more fun when he was in charge.

The New Manager Thread

Mr allen please take your righful seat in the managers office and get us out of the s..t AGAIN

The New Manager Thread

Cotterill, Simpson, Daish or at a long shot Whitbread would seem to be good candidates....

We should not go back to MA - he did a good job before until the last 2/3 months...

.............maybe he will learn from what went wrong in the last couple of months and correct it for next time...............

i have to go with my heart on this one and give my support to ann stanford. ;-)
on a serious note all the managers listed are realistically not going to go near gp. it's a position no one will want and i think we should just let bygones be bygones and embrace the wonderful facilities that other blue square teams offer. all hail part time employment!!!!! x

Most Blue Square teams are full time these days.

Just as big a question is who on earth is going to pick the manager this time round? Clearly we can't afford to allow the 'selection panel' responsible for such disastrous appointments as Fitz and Butcher to have anything to do with the next one. However, that doesn't leave us with a lot of options..

Is there anyone we can trust to make the right decision??

We line up all the candidates along the deadball line at one end, except for in the goal. Thorpe then takes a run from the edge of the area, briefed to score in the open goal.
Whichever candidate he hits is eliminated until the last man left, probably one of the one's nearest to the goal, and he is appointed manager king. (The candidate, not thorpe)

Maybe they should put a list of applicants on the GPG at let us choose. :D

That's not a bad idea... I fear this is another leak that has made it from the board room to the GPG. Whose your source Louzer???!!!

We could maybe do it at half time in the next match as the entertainment?

They asked Montague to do it, but then all the candidates would have to perch on the cross bar (if morecambe was anything to go by).

And Ide slipped over in the rehersal and suffered a reccurance of his earache.

'Both tears & sweat are salty but they give different results.Tears will get you sympathy, sweat will get you change "
A manager is needed to make the Team sweat, this if our performance and results on the pitch is to change. Saturdays game was a step in the right direction - more sweat and effort apparent.
I dont thinK M.A is the correct choice right now - a boost in attendance figures due to a popular (infamous?) Manager being appointed is o.k short term but RESULTS is what will draw the crowds back with the resulting increases in revenue.
I see Whitbread as a Contender for the job. We could a lot worse than putting Ann in as his assistant !
As an aside, the Superstore is now at Premiership standard since her return.:)
Whoever is put in charge at the end of the day is going to have an uphill struggle, so support the descision made and let them get on with it !

Mike Newell would be great. But Martin Allen knows this club and knows how to inspire players and fans. It will also give the club a much needed boost. It would be interesting to have his first game in charge of us again against is old club MK.

i'm personally refusing to rule myself out of the running.
