still waiting for Martin "he loves this club so much" Allen to come back.......

are you heads in the sand types waiting still?? move on. jog on.

He can only come back if we can pay him.;)
Maybe he would have already come back had we been able to afford him but you might be right.lol

Steve Cotterill would be an epic signing :sorted:

............................just like ABBA and Michael Jackson..........................  ;)

btw does anyone, apart from the two gentlemen concerned, know how abee and Bee H have voted?

It would be nice to see M A however A S deserves, to at least retain a senior position .
This season should be about stability; not a repeat of last years fiasco.

i got the impression that the idea was to give andy scott the holiday period to see how he fared

of course we would like to think that the "hundreds of applications"
(greg dyke) are being worked through and some sort of shortlist drawn up

one would like to think that certain prospective managers who may already have thrown their hats into the ring (steve cotterill? martin allen?) have
been contacted and also possibly some that perhaps haven't (mike newell?
neil cooper?)

there is an enormous job of work to do here and the appointment has to be right but i am also concerned with the transfer window is about to open that the new manager will not be appointed in time to re-build a squad that is about to be weakened further when the loanees return to their clubs

the new manager should be tasked with turning this season around, restoring pride and securing a top ten finish as a springboard for a promotion campaign next season

This is a board about about opinions. It's obvious what yours is. But perhaps you should keep your snide remarks to yourself. There are a lot on here that want Allen back, me included. You don't, lets move on shall we? One thing for certain is we need someone that knows what he's doing. On the whole Allen did, and since he went the managers and the football we have played have been sh*te. But don't worry Allen will not come back, but let's hope for all our sakes we get someone that can turn this nigtmare around.

I hope your wrong, we need Allen back like never before.
I just wish someone would say something.

I heard the rumour that Allen turned the job down and both Adams and Cotterill have applied.

You got that from the News of the World, of which ex-Chief Scout John Griffin has an "in" with the columnist that writes that section. Draw your own conclusions.

My speculation (and it is only that) is that the board will have talked to MA but in view of the passage of time I think they did not reach agreement :( I would be disappointed but I feel that if MA were going to return, then it would have been concluded by now.

On this basis I hope that we are talking to Steve Cotterill. Although the passage of time is frustrating, I think the board recognise that this is a hugely important appointment and it will take as long as it takes to get the right man in. I do agree with Southcoast though in that it would be nice to hear something even if only a reassurance that matters are in hand. Perhaps I am out of step but personally I'd like to hear something said to the fans.

If we can't get Allen then Steve Cotterill is the man, but knowing the way the Brentford board operate they will do SFA until the transfer window closes and then it will be mission impossible to avoid relegation.

Surely...surely even they must be able to see that Scott is NOT the man ?

.

or maybe they have reached an agreement that involves the entourage returning and as we can't afford to piss into a pot then maybe it is all a bit fecked up. Please read this as it is as close as you are going to get to the truth. I don't know if I want him back but I know that he wants/wanted to come back.

Why does he need a fecking entourage with him all the time?No need to answer that.Who ever comes in should be paid on results as if they should need encouraging anyway. If we paid £35 with £100k bonus for promotion it would be well worth it.

Judging by the way the board operates I reckon they'll go for Andy Scott to try and save money and hope that the division is so bad there must be 2 teams at the end of the season worse than Brentford ... it's a huge gamble though, at leat for the fans. I'm sure Dyke will be able to put a positive spin on looking forward to life outside the football league.

I credit ABee and BeeH with more sense than that - assuming they have a part to play in the appointment. Just wish the club had more money to play with and this would be much easier.

NB,

Serious question - how do you know that he wanted to come back? Speculation or something more solid?

Personally I would love to see him back but it seems to me that the only way we could afford him is if Leicester had to make up his wages as part of his settlement with them.

Hope you are right as I think we would have a similar problem wage-wise with Cotterill, Newell etc.

WWB you surprise me with this. I have read your posts and you have a good knowledge of football and the club imho so I am surprised that you would want a man that would bring mayhem with him to come back.
He would want Lee whatshisname to come back so that would mean Brett being sacked as well as John probably. He would almost certainly want to bring back Whit so that would mean the end for AS, he has a very frosty relationship with the current chairman, he would almost certainly cause at least three other club staff to leave (if rumours are true) and he would want to spend the 250K earmarked for several young players on one or two experienced late in their career players ala Brooker and Newman.
He would demand a release clause for no fee if a Championship club came in for him and he would bring absolutely no guarantees of success with him.

If Fulham appoint a new manager, what is the likelihood of Lewington becoming available as a new man brings in his own staff?
Would Keith Millen not fancy a run as a No1 (if adams has applied then why not millen given similar roles at Championship clubs?

Lewington has been guaranteed a coaching job at Fulham whatever happens. Why not Adams if he has applied?

I doubt you would have mentioned this if he had not played for Brentford. The sooner we pick the top job without sentiment we might be headed in the right direction.

To answer your question, he's an assistant manager of a club that might be in the Premiership, lives in Bristol and probably earns twice as much as any future Brentford manager will. Hope this helps.

There was a full page (p7) written by the Chairman in the Wycombe programme which covered TB leaving, the CEO leaving, how the Chairman sees the timetable for the appointment of a new manager and the plans for additions to the playing squad during the January transfer window.

...............for those who didn't get a programme, is there any chance that the article might be linked here on the GPG?..............

Im no fan of Adams and his managerial successes speak for themselves should you wonder why. I dont like his style of football and like Allen I think it is wrong to go back unless it is for footballing reasons ie Lewington (who may not want to work with the new man) or a Coppell who has a proven track record of success. Obviously the latter is not available but I chose him to make my point. Millen to answer two posts in one, has a proven track record as a coach only since Gary Johnson arrived at BCFC as before that the club kept failing expectations. IF GJ were to say be approached by Fulham in the next week or so do you think that BCFC would give the job to Millen or would he possibly hang on to GJ's coattails and follow him to a Premiership club?

IMO BCFC wont go up and GJ will not be there past this season as his star is in the ascendancy in football circles. KM will not be given the job when Johnson goes so he may want to start out on his own knowing he is financially secure and has good family links to the area as well as (and finally) being a long playing servant of the club in the past.

One of the subjects raised a month or so ago was that should important programme articles be reproduced on the official site maybe a couple of days later. I raised with the BFC board last week (by email) that since the last home game both the Team Manager and CEO had left and that we needed to communicate our thoughts as the supporters would be expecting to read something in the Wycombe programme. GD emailed me back immediately and said that he had written an article for the Wycombe programme. For me the article said all that could reasonably be publicised at this stage. I'll ask Peter G tomorrow if it can go onto the official site as I'm not sure how we stand with scanning and reproducing on the GPG.

Thanks for responding abee. To echo the comment of others it would be good if something was on the Official Site too. Sorry, we're never satisfied!!!

I don't think the GPG should have scans of articles from the programme. Reproducing any important articles on the OS would be the way to go or even better impart the same information slightly differently for the different medium.

I agree. When I referred to scanning I was remembering that there was a spell when we were getting scanned Chronny articles on here pretty early on Thursday mornings.

................as long as 'the smelly socks brigade' can see it on the OS or anywhere else come to that (just as long as we're pointed in the right direction), I couldn't care where it might be scanned/copied/played around with/given to LarrySigny to rewrite (delete as appropriate)..............

But he has less experience as a number 1 than AS so why should he be any good?

I thought most people feel that we need an experienced hand at this stage not another rookie.

Being a good coach has no bearing on whether you make a good manager e.g. Wally Downes, Sammy Lee etc..

I think that a coach being upgraded to a manager also has far more chance of succeeding when he goes to a different club rather than taking over the reins at the club where he had previously been a coach.

Could Hodgson's appointment put Ray Lewington in the frame for us. Most new guys especially someone like Hodgson will want his own people backing him up :fishing:

Yep, I was trying my best to drive the Chron into an early grave. :D I'm not in the circulation area anymore otherwise would have still carried it on.

To be honest - with apologies to Streetboy - there haven't been that many scoops in the Chronicle for some while. Anything interesting I try to precis when I can.

I was thinking back the other day - I can't recall many circumstances where a sacked manager has been replaced by his assistant. Plenty of examples of a successful manager moving on and the assistant stepping up of course - can anyone think of any of the former?

He's probably earning 200k a year at Fulham so I guess not. He's also too nice to be a manager.

Ray pretty much said he had a job for life there after they lost 5-1 so I don't see him coming to us and risking having no job in 6 months

Newsflash: The list of managers wanting a Premiership job with a millionaire benefactor is much larger (and more talented) than the list wanting to take over a failed League 2 club who average gates of less than 5,000 a week, have sacked the last 3 managers with an average timespan of 6 months, and are 10 million pounds in debt.

i.e. there's no comparison.

Marriage in haste, repent at leisure. i.e. let's take the time to get this next one right. A proven non-league manager who wants to step up to the Football League.
