Good points but it's left back

Left side and with the lack of a natural winger he gives Poole the license to tuck in a bit where he is more comfortable. Looking at our team at the moment, it's obvious where our main threat comes from.

The Ryan Dickson thread

If there's no transfer fee & the wage paid is reasonable, I believe he would be a really good signing.
If we can find funds I think he is definitely worth paying up to 100k for.

Interesting thought.... but to me part of his appeal is that an obviously talented youngster with a lot of unfulfilled promise is apparently available without payment of a fee.

Who knows with the right attitude and good coaching he could be a valuable property in a couple of years or he could do a Folan and end up playing for Truro.

Indeed, but if Darlo did decide to battle it out, it may be worth offering a fee.

The Ryan Dickson thread

It might be that he is 'only' a left back and we DO need a striker but both at Shrewsbury and at Milton Keynes where he looked after Mark Wright he showed how important his defensive contribution has been.

With respect any player that plays his position well is someone that we should be looking to retain because, using the above examples, an adequate left back might have meant that we did not take 4 points from those 2 games.

To me he would one of those good 'investments' that i understood we were looking to attract to the club.

Don't think its a question of offering a fee to Plymouth rather convincing the player that we can offer him the best package and best opportunity

The Ryan Dickson thread

Very impressed by what I have seen so far. Sign him if we can afford it. :sorted:

The Ryan Dickson thread

Simon,

I take your point & would normally agree in terms of his playing position.

However at Shrewsbury in the 2nd half , a sub was introduced to clear approval & excitement from the home crowd & he certainly did seem to be a very fast & dangerous player - at first!!! Dickson, imo, completely nullified him & at 21yo appears to have the potential to become an excellent,as opposed to adequate or average, full back. If there's no transfer fee & the wage paiaid is reasonable, I believe he would be a really good signing.

:imwith:

Showed real pace, and encouragingly seemed to have an instinct for when/when not to commit to a challenge. I think he could be top drawer in a few years...

The Ryan Dickson thread

i doubt he'd come without a transfer fee... but he's only played three times for plymouth as a sub and his contract there ends in summer.. so the fee wouldn't be too steep.
if we paid fees for him and a decent striker, i would say business well done in the transfer window... maybe with a few frees to boot

The Ryan Dickson thread

Is there anyone out there we can compete with these days? That's the trouble with all these loans - any decent one we pick up we don't stand an earthly of getting.

The Ryan Dickson thread

i must say... if this is true about darlington it does wreck my day. only hope is that he loves what's happening at brentford at the minute... go on AS, convince him to stay!

The Ryan Dickson thread

Yay! Its ok

I just found that the bad spells of weather involved( along with distance from home)may be an issue

From what i have heard you are just waiting for dickson to decide weather to sign as distance from home is a big factor. From what i have heard you are just waiting for dickson to decide weather to sign as distance from home is a big factor.

Bad weather oop North

Oh well there you go then! The bad weather is always up in the gloomy North, he'll be staying then :sorted:

The Ryan Dickson thread

i spoke to poole about dickson and he said he hadnt herd anything about it, so who knows?

The Ryan Dickson thread

amazing how low BFC have become, if this is true that Dickson has signed for Darlo, BFC can't even compete with the likes of Darlington now.

The Ryan Dickson thread

well if he has gone to the bother of having a medical there, then surely it must be as good as done.

The Ryan Dickson thread

if darlo WANT him they may have agreed to carry out the medical in london... i would certainly expect BFC to travel the country to make sure they got their player...

It's not that often a player like Dickson becomes so readily available and futhermore has fitted in for us so well. I'm sure AS would love to keep him but as usual the board don't "appear" to supporting Andy, I hope i'm wrong but suspect i'm not.

If the "NEW" guys on the board really want to make a difference it's time to p*** or get off the pot !

I'm not sure this is entirely fair. He may have other reasons for preferring Darlo, who knows? Equally, whilst I think he's a great player with potential I wouldn't want us to go overboard and throw money at him, especially if we're going to play him at LB. We've other areas that need more important attention, IMO. If he has gone elsewhere, it's a real shame, but we need to keep some money aside to get a decent striker in (amongst others..)

exactly. whilst im disapointed we havent got him, which btw hasnt happened yet, it would have been stupid to give too much money away. Im sure it was just a choice for dickson, and something swang it their way.

The Ryan Dickson thread

Isn't he an attacking LB that defends adequately and allows Poole not to give too much defensive cover thus allowing him the freedom to score a goal or two?

:imwith:

He gives Poole a free role to be our shooting man. He's been very important in the recent goal scoring form Poole has showed.

The Ryan Dickson thread

Maybe we wont lose him now as Darlington have signed Paul Mayo, who is a left back who can also play at centre back.

The Ryan Dickson thread

if we seriously want to challenge for promotion we should be signing him up hope we dont let another good player slip away the board quit happily payed a fee for callum willock couple of seasons back so surely they must part with there money at somepoint to sign some decent players ! that are available

The Ryan Dickson thread

For gods sake if we lose this one its not good. He is strong,an attacking full back, part of the new belief..............please please lets not **** up again

The Ryan Dickson thread

It is only a BBC forum rumour - who knows if there is anything in it?

The Ryan Dickson thread

We really need to go for this one as I think our season depends on having this kid on the left side. I hoped that Darlo was too far north for him and that maybe he enjoyed playing for us but the fact that he has been up there makes me think that we are fecked!
Remember him coming on as sub against them for his first game and looking like Superman?

That was Coca Cola money we HAD to spend

The Ryan Dickson thread

The Calum Willock fee came out of the DJ Campbell money. No doubt we could again "afford" to spend £50k on a transfer fee if we sell one of our existing players for £500,000.

The Ryan Dickson thread

well if he has gone to the bother of having a medical there, then surely it must be as good as done.

:nono: he now knows what a bloody long way it is to get there & couldn't make himself understood in the corner shop, plus not a Cornish pastie on sight.

He's too terrified to even mention it to his other half & his folks are refusing to come & watch him play ever again. The medical itself was a nightmare, he wouldn't even handle a sheep on his Dad's farm in such a fashion.

In short he don't be wanting no part of 'em, London be a big scary city all roight, but them there northerners are MONSTERS

Not fair as far as I can gather.. I think Dickson's 'proposed' choice of going to Darlington has nothing to do with money becoming available from the boardbut more of the players wishes and also possibly that of his agents..

Sorry Guys, but maybe we do have to accept that Darlington are a bigger club currently than us, with better wages, a better ground and better prospects of promotion..

Fair points but I'd like to think that we are telling him that he liked by the fans and performing well and he would be much more in the shop window at GP than at that hellhole of a place in the middle of nowhere and likely of a brighter individual future with us than at Darlo. I would ask him to name any Darlo players that have gone on to good things and then feck him over with how well former Brentford players have done and are doing.
Tommy Miller by the way is the only one I can think of.

I think Miller was ex Hartlepool, not Darlo.

Hope we don't lose Dickson, but some things may be beyond BFC's control
