Hm. Now let me see.

A player turns down a deal from a (current) Premiership club, offered by a manager whose opinion I respect - which means Hamer was being offered something that would be near his worth.

That opens him up to an offer from a Division 2 club who are well-known to be cash-strapped.

On a scale of minus one hundred to minus 50, how likely would you rate the prospect of him coming here? Be honest now.

The Simon Brown thread

Without going in to deal i understand the deal was not that impressive eg no better than the level he is on now, forgive me for bothering to share

The Simon Brown thread

That's the one for me. If no one wants to buy him off us, we shouldn't get rid by pay-off. He's ok for a 2nd choice, but for crying out loud get Hamer or someone else in as first choice as at least Hamer's young enough to improve.

As we have just signed Seb Brown and I assume he is not likley to be first choice it seems it is Simon Brown or someone else for number 1 ...not both.

It wouldn't be inconcievable that (should the right deal be available) we got a loan goalkeeper in, Hamer or someone like him, and Simon Brown stays as number two.

I can't see we could afford a "first choice keeper" if Simon Brown remains, but we might be able to get a young but talented loanee.

Depends how Scott wants to spend his cash really

The Simon Brown thread

I have just finished my portion of humble pie & am about to go up for seconds - have just seen the goal and I agree - GET RID!

The Simon Brown thread

If he had otherwise been in good form, you'd shrug off a howler like that in an end-season game, but it was more of a last straw from a player who has got steadily worse (and was only average to start with).

Have to hope someone comes in for him. If no-one has by the end of June, might be worth discussing whether a moderate pay-off (3 months' money?) might be acceptable to him. Not sure we can afford to pay a full season's money (even without NI etc) to get rid of him, but I hope he's not our keeper next season

The Simon Brown thread

Pay offs mean we don't need to pay National Insurance and often the player will take less than owed as they're receiving the amount in one go so we could squeeze another young player out of getting rid of Brown rather than keeping him on the bench.
I don't quite understand your logic. If we pay him off in a lump sum we still need to find, sign and pay a decent second keeper's wages and NI. This would have to be done a lot cheaper in order for it to work out at less money than just keeping Brown on as 2nd choice. How many of these cheap, reliable goalkeepers are there floating about? Bearing in mind that we don't own Ben Hamer either so the club only has one other goalkeeper, Sebastien Brown. How good is he at this level? Nobody knows!

Two young keepers, the first choice of which has a habit of daydreaming and making the occasional howler because of it, another who's completely unproven at this level and may make his debut when the first choice keeper's injured, but he came through the youth system and is cheap so he'll do.
Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

On the way out of this league next season, I'd rather the devil I know than get into a Masters-type situation if Seb's chucked in the deep end before he's ready.

What's the story with Brown? He hasn't been taken north by Butcher has he???? Goalkeeper coach maybe??:fishing:

Last seen warming up in Gunnersbury Park for a 10.30 kick off tomorrow. However, the late news is that Beesotted have found a mangy old carthorse wandering round Carville Hall Park in much better condition and Fat Boy's services are no longer required.

Followed him down the road into the ground today..he dropped his kit bag twice, stayed on the kerb when it was safe to cross and had to wait for an old lady to help him across the road !! Told me he had a game lined up with Jim Stannard's veterans team tomorrow....but needs to eat a few more pies to get a regualar game !!:sorted: rofl

Fuuck off Brown, hope you are gone next season. Saw Seb warming up in training, not much to judge him on, but still looked better than Simon

you mean he got as far as asking the coach if he was meant to try and stop this thing (the ball) go in the back of the net? giant, and technically difficult step that one... brown hasn't yet mastered it :fishing:

The Simon Brown thread

How much did it cost to pay him off then? What does that make the total for this season in pay offs?

No idea but better we rid ourselves of problems or failures than let things fester

The Simon Brown thread

After the last few matches where he has cost us points, because if you are going to let goals in so easily knowing we have noone who can score goals, then he needs to go. Any business concern that has a liability in their midst eliminates it, so BFC should do the same.

The Simon Brown thread

it'll cost money to release him, we might have to have 2 loanee GK's and paying 'part' of their wages, than a GK on contract at BFC, to make the budget work?

Hamer was brilliant on Saturday, easily Brentford's number 1 keeper.

He wasn't brilliant - he could have got a stronger touch to the first goal for a start.

What I would say is that Hamer playing blindfolded is still millions of times better than Simon Brown.

Hamer came and claimed two early crosses and produced a wonder save at 1-0 down by pushing that shot onto the bar, he then saves a pen and we still lose 3-0.
For the cross catching alone I love him, I hadn't seen that for a week or two.

Oh come on, seeing as for most of the match it looked like Hereford's training ground, he did well to only let in three. Came out well and looked tall and strong for corners and crosses, nearly always decisive and the only time I saw him go the wrong way was for the first penalty kick.

Your words here don't say to me that he was brilliant though VTG.

Hamer's last game was the Bury game at home NB on the 4th March. 9 games in a row with the clown brown in goal. :(

has been told he wont be number 1 next season...middlesex chronicle...

In each of the 3 games leading up to his exclusion - Bury, Darlington and Accrington - Hamer was at major fault for at least 1 goal and AS was left with little option but to take him out of the firing line. However, I would think his confidence was fully restored in the next game as soon as Brown watched the first cross float past his nose so I'm not sure a 9 game rest was necessary.

Jimbee - who do you prefer - Simon Brown or Adam Griffiths ?

The last time I was in goal we let in 8. However, I can actually catch which possibly gives me the edge over fat bloke. :sorted:

Still got another year left on his contract..

Hopefully he gets himself a new club to take him off our hands. Same for Pead & Charlie Ide!

The Simon Brown thread

he's under contract, so it will be a pay off, or transfer to another club. We can't just 'release' him. the same goes for Ide (disappointed really in him) and Pead (glad he can go, again though it will be a pay off or free transfer)

"That defeat wasn't bad luck, it was bad players playing badly and leaves a sour taste in the mouth for the summer."

Bet there are a couple of those players already regretting having one eye on the beach!

Glad to see Simon Clown in his best position yesterday...sitting on a brick wall outside Edgeley Park !!..

Clown is one of the players made available for transfer...AS does not say Clown has been released - that was the comment by BBC Sport.

Stupid headline, got me excited. I'm sure someone will take Pead on the strength of his bizarre selection in the team of the year, not so sure about Brown though...
