The World Cup Thread

I couldn't see a thread for general WC discussion..... so here it is.

I can't wait, I absolutely love the WC. OK, I can leave the OTT Razmatazz and the diving, cheating and swearing but 3 games a day for the first two weeks watching all the worlds best players and all the thrills and the heartache, bring it on :)

I have 3 almighty pi55 ups lined up with the lads for the England games. We may not win it but for me the world cup is made up of moments for example Argentina in 2002, watching the that **** Batistuta crying after the Beckham penalty sent him home. What a day and night that was. The last Euro's were not great but the game versus sweden and welbecks goal, what a night that was.
The further we go the bigger that night can be. I just hope we get one or more nights like that in the next few weeks.

Can't wait for it to start. Actually look forward to watching England play with so much young talent for once at our disposal. If we can get out of our group then who knows.

Fancy Argentina to win it.

Love it! Will try and watch all the games although i may miss the Ivory Coast v Japan game @ 2am!

Don't we usually have a World Cup forum?

bought a tv today for the bedroom so can fall asleep immediately after the 2300 games finish, or half way through depending on the game

Can't wait. New TV in the office as well as we often work pretty late. Will tune in just before kick off for most games as can't abide the bollox that BBC and ITV dish out pre-match. I have aleady developed a real hatred for samba rhythms and if I hear the word "Copacabana" one more time..... Haven't decided who to support yet in the unfortunate absence of Wales but am leaning towards Colombia or perhaps Argentine.

The World Cup Thread

Can't wait either, love the WC and the buzz it brings!

The World Cup Thread

Struggling to get excited if honest but know I'll be a bag of nerves and kicking every ball come Saturday when it starts properly.
Expectations are very low but will pray this ordinary squad can become World champions like every tournament since 1970 when I first remember watching.

I wonder of there will many Bees out there. I know one who is going. Hope to see a few flags.

Chile for me.

Put a jumper on then.

Chile will never win it, no chance.

Brasil and Argentina will beat them, Spain will take some scalps and Germany and Italy will probably go a fair way as they always seem to.

They said that about Greece in Portugal!
FIFA Rankings - http://www.fifa.com/worldranking/rankingtable/

Not really a sensible comparison is it? Greece was a complete freak, they played fantastically well and it all just came together for them but they were pony again afterwards. What are the chances of it happening in the WC? If you were predicting a winner you would do it on ability and form, not just pick a name out of a hat and hope they perform a miracle.

OK, strange things can happen but it is unlikely. If I said England could win you would all laugh but if the gods smiled upon us and we somehow did it wouldn't be because I knew something nobody else did.

Looking forward to it! Working a lot of evenings so I will miss a lot of the live games though. :(

It's not a name out of hat though. They are a very good team and fancied by many as the darkhorses - based on ability and form. Definitely worth a bet that they'll reach the semis.

OK.

But IMO they will not win it. I think Brasil will crumble as well as they actually are not as strong as they have been in the past, I think it is Argentina's to lose but I thought that during the last WC.

I've got Greece in the office sweep so £10 down the khazi. In a different sweep I've got Cameroon.

I wonder if I can place a bet on how many days it will be before either BBC or ITV broadcast footage of a south american commentator getting excited and shouting "Gooooooooooooool"?

I've been thinking. What would the majority of all of you prefer- England winning the World Cup or Brentford winning the Play-Off final to win promotion to the Premier League? Hmmm.

Brentford. Why ask a silly question like that?

Better to fall asleep before it even starts.

What a stupid question.

Danny Welbeck is a doubt for the Italy game.

Not many Brentford connections with this WC. Gone are the days when Brian Turner turned out for NZ or the Merse for England. If you take away the Chelsea and Everton players how many players at the WC have even played against us? Lambert would be one but struggling to think of any others.

.............Oxlade Chamberlain............

Ben Foster, Fraser Forster, Leighton Baines, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert have all played league games against Brentford as far as I can tell.

I'd take us staying up over winning the wc

The 2 are mutually exclusive - so both

Ray Lewington on the bench for England

Isn't that like saying "would you rather your Dad died or a random bloke you'd never met in your life who happens to lives down your street"

Who did Baines play a league game for? He may have played in the League Cup tie I suppose as did Jagielka. Can't remember if Howard was in goal that night.

Wigan Athletic - her played over 100 games for them before he went to Everton.

Not even a contest. Bees every time.

Argentina for me as winners. England could get out the Group stages though. We are too vulnerable on the counter attack imho.

Got 8 more teams to sell in work sweepstake. Im taking the last one and Brazil are still there! Please! Not such an easy sell where I am even at £3 a team, as im 1 of 2 men in a building of 75 ! To help i do flags for everyone to stick on the top of their computer screens, that often swings it!

Luckily I can support Germany once England go out (the mrs supports England when Germany not playing) but I can't see past Argentina to win it. Expect Uruguay to make make semi! In 1978 holland made the final in Argentina - that game was the one that made the most impression on me and I went from liking football to loving it - subsequently started to go to brentford! I haven't seen the potential fixtures but Argentina v holland would been a nice nostalgic game for me
