 I used to benefit from people throwing them from New Road though. Good times.![]()
same here, during my ballboying days, used to stock up a plenty, may have explained why I hit 15 stone at the age of 15 !![]()
Maybe it had something to do with the colour of his skin as hundreds were throw that day but one person was arrested. Charges dropped but he told me the charge was throwing an offensive weapon onto the playing area.lol:shrug: I used to benefit from people throwing them from New Road though. Good times.![]()
still one of my funniest moments ever at a football match had to be a game at the Abbey Stadium against Camb.Utd, they had their big old Moose walking round and giving sweets to the kids, as he walks past the away end he throws some sweets over the fence for the kids gathered, only to get attacked by a bombardment of chomp bars from the majority standing in there, great scenes.![]()
Remember a night game at Southend, in the LDV I believe, where there was numerous assaults on the pitch by said Chomp bars.
the old shop (now a house) which was always my favoured on the corner of new/brook road had done their research on the demand for chomps and ample supplies were always available in the there during those days![]()
i always thought the chomp thing started at an away day in leyton orient where one of their players happend to have the name CHOMP. feck knows where i got that impression...
yer you was a porker![]()
how did it all come about?
was something to do with Brain Statham
The book will explain it and explain it well.
One of the original Chompers talks you through how it started and the day it was killed.
This book just gets better and better. Wasnt around during the chomp throwing days unfortunatley so look forward to reading what its all about.![]()

Got the video somewhere - If vcmazz or someone else can upload it onto the Bes channel on youtube they are more trhan welcome to borrow it.

I think that LDV game at Southend was the pinnacle of Chomp madness. The sight of bemused stewards clearing a mountain of chomps from the penalty area will stay with me for life.

Finally, one of my mates has still got an original (which went to a few games with us) in his fridge!!

Reading about the book 'Silk Scarves and Chomp Bars' got me thinking about my favourite Chomp moment.
Has to be The LDV game at Southend when we won 3-0 I think it was.
Richard Cadette scored in front of us and there was a monsoon of Chomp Bars chucked on the pitch.

Hmmm. Could maybe use the footage to produce a Youtube 'trailer' ad for the book? The book will explain it and explain it well.

The ocassion I recall is an away game at The Cottage, don't remember which particular Fulham game or how it finished, I just remember Jimmy Hill being absolutely showered with Chomp bars as he walked past.....good times![]()
I remember that, think it started with him getting a bit of verbal, Jimmy gave us a smile and a wave and then before you knew he was getting pelted with hundreds of chomp bars. Good times indeed. lol
Always remember Alan Cockram picking one up on the way back to the half way line and taking a big bite out of one following a goal.
Happy days.......

chomp chaos.........everytime they cleared the pitch another load got thrown on........in the end the players were chucking em offlollol
coupled with a pitch invasion for all the goals it was very funny
ended 3-2 i think............still not sure as too busy laughing at the chompingrofl
Surely a chomp comeback is on the horizon for Dons?
It would be great, but I imagine a lengthy ban from football grounds would be the reward for some random Chomp throwing in this sterile era.
Chomps are 17p now. It is no longer financially viable .
Well, I suppose ten Chomps each is £1.70 per head - yes, I suppose it could work. I feel the club should embrace this though and look at it as an extra revenue stream, Maybe have men (or women) walking around with those cinema style ice cream boxes that hang round his (or her) neck, vending Chomps instead of ice cream and Kia-Ora. Rather like those stone/rock/gravel sellers in the stoning scene in 'Life Of Brian'.It is - allowing for inflation.
