Throwing Chomps

Throwing Chomps

 I used to benefit from people throwing them from New Road though. Good times.

same here, during my ballboying days, used to stock up a plenty, may have explained why I hit 15 stone at the age of 15 ! :D

Throwing Chomps

It was a silly little idea that came from some right decent Bees fans looking for something stupid to do. They were finally sent an inflatable chomp and a massive box of them a few days before the 6-1 Bradford game when the pitch was littered with them. The organiser stood near me and I was talking to him as he arrested by the old bill and stewards who told him they had CCTV of him throwing one on the pitch. Maybe it had something to do with the colour of his skin as hundreds were throw that day but one person was arrested. Charges dropped but he told me the charge was throwing an offensive weapon onto the playing area.lol

still one of my funniest moments ever at a football match had to be a game at the Abbey Stadium against Camb.Utd, they had their big old Moose walking round and giving sweets to the kids, as he walks past the away end he throws some sweets over the fence for the kids gathered, only to get attacked by a bombardment of chomp bars from the majority standing in there, great scenes. :D

Midweek game I remember, took my brother in law who told me on the way to the ground he was splitting up with his wife. The chomp bars scenes really cheered him up

Remember a night game at Southend, in the LDV I believe, where there was numerous assaults on the pitch by said Chomp bars.

I think we scored loads that night - the Southend Stewards were on the pitch at half time throwing the back. There still only 10p

the old shop (now a house) which was always my favoured on the corner of new/brook road had done their research on the demand for chomps and ample supplies were always available in the there during those days :D

i always thought the chomp thing started at an away day in leyton orient where one of their players happend to have the name CHOMP. feck knows where i got that impression...

Kenny Achompong was your man. He got absolutely pelted when taking a corner at Brisbane Road in front of the away end!

My best chomp memory is Tranmere away in 2nd leg of play-offs.

We were behind the goal to the right and tranmere fans were behind the goal to the left, and there was a 15 yard wide section in between that was empty apart from a few coppers for security reasons.

In the 2nd half we launched a chomp attack on the tranmere fans who then picked them up of the floor and started lobbing them back. We; dthen do the same and they went back and forth for abuot 3 minutes. Some of the looks on the utterly bewildered policemens faces caught in the cross fire of an all out 10p chocolate bar war was priceless.

Throwing Chomps

Always remember Alan Cockram picking one up on the way back to the half way line and taking a big bite out of one following a goal.

Happy days.......

Southend, when we stopped them winning promotion -- stopped outside the ground be The Aged Williams - "Excuse me sir, but do you have any... confectionary... about your person?" Luckily only Fruit gums, mum.

Throwing Chomps

Chomps cost me 15p yesterday... outrageous :mad2:

Reading about the book 'Silk Scarves and Chomp Bars' got me thinking about my favourite Chomp moment.

Has to be The LDV game at Southend when we won 3-0 I think it was.

Richard Cadette scored in front of us and there was a monsoon of Chomp Bars chucked on the pitch.

Got the video somewhere.

If vcmazz or someone else can upload it onto the Bes channel on youtube they are more trhan welcome to borrow it.

Throwing Chomps

how did it all come about?

was something to do with Brain Statham

The book will explain it and explain it well.
One of the original Chompers talks you through how it started and the day it was killed.

Throwing Chomps

I think that LDV game at Southend was the pinnacle of Chomp madness. The sight of bemused stewards clearing a mountain of chomps from the penalty area will stay with me for life.

I can remember the last Chomp I threw. Away to Bristol City on the last day of the 92-93 season. I chucked it at the goading yokels in the terrace to our right.

Please don't tell my mum, or Ken or 333. :blush

they kept given them back to us which made it the pinnaclerofllol

Corner kicks were always a bit of a laff.

Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp:)

Definitely!!Absolutely fantastic night!! I couldn't believe it when they spent about 10 minutes clearing them all up and then gave them back to us to throw on again!!

My recollection of how it all started is also down to the Kenny Achampong thing.

I also remember being searched outside Gay Meadow, when the Old Bill were quizzing us and we denied any knowledge of it!! We managed to get a couple in though!!

Also remember someone being thrown out at St.Andrews for lobbing one on.

Finally, one of my mates has still got an original (which went to a few games with us) in his fridge!!

Brilliant times!!

Throwing Chomps

I was a yougish lad at the time of the Chomp craze. I loved it as I used to end up with pocket fulls of them.
I was stood fairly near the front of New Road one game and a Chomp Bar came whizzing down from the back and smacked the bloke next to me on the back of the head. He casually bent down, picked it up, unwrapped it and just shouted 'I've been Chomped' whilst tucking in and rubbing the back of his head :D

Throwing Chomps

The ocassion I recall is an away game at The Cottage, don't remember which particular Fulham game or how it finished, I just remember Jimmy Hill being absolutely showered with Chomp bars as he walked past.....good times :D

Hmmm. Could maybe use the footage to produce a Youtube 'trailer' ad for the book?

I remember that, think it started with him getting a bit of verbal, Jimmy gave us a smile and a wave and then before you knew he was getting pelted with hundreds of chomp bars. Good times indeed. lol

Surely a chomp comeback is on the horizon for Dons?

He turned into one a bit quick and his chin sent it sailing into the Thames Bothamesque.

It would be great, but I imagine a lengthy ban from football grounds would be the reward for some random Chomp throwing in this sterile era.

Can't ban 4,000 of us.

Chomps are 17p now. It is no longer financially viable .

Throwing Chomps

It is - allowing for inflation.
Well, I suppose ten Chomps each is £1.70 per head - yes, I suppose it could work. I feel the club should embrace this though and look at it as an extra revenue stream, Maybe have men (or women) walking around with those cinema style ice cream boxes that hang round his (or her) neck, vending Chomps instead of ice cream and Kia-Ora. Rather like those stone/rock/gravel sellers in the stoning scene in 'Life Of Brian'.
