As a side note, how ridicilous that the away goals rule only came into play after 120 minutes. Very, very unfair, IMO.

I don't really understand the 'away goal rule' surely it should be after ninety minutes (the same for both sides)...

Every kick Burnley had in extra time I was silently cheering, everytime Spurs attacked made my toes curl.... lucky, lucky bastards....

The Burnley players did themselves proud, other than Akinbiyi. Couldn't trap a bag of cement and continuously gave the ball away cheaply.

Good to see Harry twitching away. If only Burnley had held on, every ground they travel to for the foreseeable would be giving it "4-1, and you f*&^%d it up".

Ade can trap it further than I can kick it.The only saving grace is Spurs will get thrashed in the final..lets hope Ferguson doesnt put out his ressies

I really wanted Burnley to win this game. However, a tremendous effort but no prizes.

Thought they looked worn out in extra time, but didn't realise that they didn't need to score, as they would progress with the away goals rule. Have a feeling that if they needed to score then they would have kept up the pressure, instead of trying to see out time.

The late escape came from nowt last night. I was sitting watching with my lad and we were saying how they were going out in a gay way. There was no last ditch defending or any real pressure up until 2 class finishes, the game was going nowhere.

No, the winners get a place.

If the winners qualify for the CL the next highest league team gets the place.

Only the FA Cup gives a place to the winners or runners up.

England has seven European placs currently - 4 in Cl, 3 in UC.

Depending on Cup results that could mean top seven in league qualify, there might be eight based on Fair Play nonsense but not more AFAIK.

That, however, doesn't include the Inter-Toto Cup (is that still going?) which could lead to another place.

The intertoto cup is folded into the UEFA Cup from next season and renamed the UEFA Europa League. As part of this Wikipedia states:

"Cup winners who have already qualified for European competition via league placing will no longer hand their UEFA Europa League slot to the losing finalist. Their place in the competition will instead devolve onto the highest-placed team in the league not yet in European competition"

Also Burnley are asking for confirmation that Defoe was eligible to play in the second leg of the Leagus Cup semi-final as he was actually signed two days after the first leg had been completed!!

gotta love 'im? don't think so! dodgy geezer who, as pointed out, lies a lot. patronised us when we played Southampton in the cup, and then let his team limp out at home to Man U in the next round. took Southampton down that year and blamed everyone else but himself. bloke's a fool, tho clearly knows this football management lark, so fair play to him on that :sad:

Just thought it was quite funny the way he got Portsmouth to the premiership and then went to Southampton for 5 minutes and got them relegated.

He's dodgy for sure but a great character

Interesting to see if he goes to Sunderland.

As for Harry 'Any Old Iron' Redknapp, the only source I need to know he has no time for Bent was that damning interview he gave after Bent's shocking miss the other week.

Can this thread be re-named - The best English coach of all time, who 'if anyone can get this team playing, he can, that 'has a knack of making excellent purchases of players no one has heard of for small fees', who now needs a little help in terms of giving him as much cash as he wants to pay over the odds for average players (wonder why? Allegedly) now that all referees are against him and he can't get the best out of his players.
