awful game. fell asleep for their goal.

Tranmere Reports

agreed.... no cutting edge upfront poor performance

Let's have a reality check. Yes we did well on Tuesday night against Colchester but we did ride our luck a few times and if it hadn't been for Chesney we would have lost 3-1.
The fact is we're not good enough, plain and simple.

The back 4 are all OK but I would still prefer Wilson and Pim. But even with a solid defence you are always going to concede the odd goal, the problem is the other end. Neither Macdonald or Strevens are goalscorers, but even if we had a poacher in the side he would wait an effin long time to get a forward pass from O'Connor. Bean should be the attacking player in the middle but he rarely get's past the strikers......what I would like to know is why AS cannot see it, he picks the team, he tells them how to play, he has to take the blame for this pisspoor team.

Tranmere Reports

Doubt many of the 240 will be back for at least another 4 hours so pretty pointless closing the other thread unless you want the "reports" thread full of comments that aren't "reports" but hey ho .

can you give us a proper report then rather than just 7 words !

Left on Tuesday feeling that even if we'd lost the performance was good and something to build on.
Know you can't always trust stats but to have no shots on goal is, frankly, embarrassing.
IMO the strikers are not to blame.
Bean and O'Connor are both decent players at this level but are too similar and prefer sitting and holding.
We lack any kind of craft in the middle, someone to pull the strings like a fit Gary Smith.
As a former striker I'm sure Andy can see what the problem is but playmaking central midfielders with guile are not that easy to come by.
If I was on that coach and had played up front I'd be asking myself why their keeper had nothing to do all afternoon...and would probably be blaming it on the service I'd got.
As Andy says a good side is a consistent side and vice versa - so by his own reckoning that means we are not good at the moment.
That said Tuesday night showed we're not far away and just need that bit of creativity to get things moving.

Ok

Game of few clear cut chances.

First half was pretty even and I was feeling pretty confident at half time. Dickson had a good first half and looks a cut above a lot in this league. Chesney looked sharp and commanding so you would have felt happy that we wouldn't concede today.

Second half started in the same vain. I do, however, have to hand it to Tranmere as the goal was a very well worked free kick. A runner off the 3 conversing to take the free kick was fed the ball, Bees defenders slow to react and he slipped it passed the on rushing Chesney.

Strevens looked poor in the second half and I felt him being substituted for Cort would have been a better move if at least to try and hold the ball up front.

Not sure about Murphy and IMO he looks feisty and is a sending off waiting to happen.

Tranmere just about deserved the 3 points. We need to be much better next week.

Tranmere Reports

Waiting for the excuses again, but two goals in 9 games tells its own story.

Oh my God, here we go again! The game hasn't been finished an hour. We've had no real reports but why let that stop us!! Doom, gloom, 'everyone's crap and AS can't see it' etc.... Jesus .... I'm as disappointed as the next Bees' fan ... I was hoping for better today ... I agree our away from is awful and needs sorting out ...but please is some sense of persepctive really too much to ask for!? Its like living with a manic bloody depressive!!

Ok here goes with some "perspective". On the form of our last 9 away games, we will probably get another 5 away points this season. That will give us 27 points so we will need about another 27 from our remaining 13 home games to have enough to stay up. . (Next two v Leeds and Charlton).

Should be a doddle eh.

Is that enough perspective for you..........

Thanks mate - looks like they were concentrating on not conceding and probably would have succeeded if there hadn't been a loss of concentration. Problem is that it is difficult once this happens to change the game plan. We have the players at the moment to be more positive away from home so we really should try to be.

I know what you're saying, but the annoying thing is that I think by "get some perspective" you mean "see things the way I do" which is not the same thing at all...

That probably means they were looking for a draw. Against a struggling side a win is what's wanted. Now I'm sure the tactics are dragging us down.

I'm so positively postive about the positive result to this season that I can't see the wood from the trees syndrome on show.

Why bother with the form over 9 games? If you're going to leave out the win, why not just use the last 4 games to give more weight to your argument? :sorted:

Not really mate, sorry! I don't accept you can separate our home form from our away form this simply and reach the type of conclusion you have reached. We have been showing enough promise at home to suggest that we should be doing better away, particularly given that for the most part we are only losing by the odd goal away from home. A more balanced concluson on the basis of our form home and away would be that some tweaking is required away from home, not that we are so obviously a bad side that it is amazing that AS can't see it

Carry on deluding yourself.

OK then 6 points in 10 away games.

So thats roughly 8 in the remaining 13 based on that form. Whichever way you look at it unless we pick up our away form dramatically we are going down.

You can easily separate home form from away form to reach a conclusion. It is the difference between them that causes clubs to be relegated.

Here's last seasons L1 table.

http://www.soccerbase.com/league2.sd?competitionid=3 (if you change the year at the bottom !!)

Aside from Hereford, the other 3 had adequate home form. Certainly no worse or not much worse than much of the division. The difference is their away form was so bad they wen't down.

We are heading down the same road unless our away form improves dramatically.

Sorry it comes across to you in that way. By 'perspective' all I am actually arguing for is looking at more than one game at a time.

Not that I'm the picky type but you reckon we need 32 more points to stay up yet that would have put us 15th last season.

Best to be safe eh!

i think simply we have to beat the sides around and below and we have not done that often enough

Tranmere Reports

Someone please explain the logic of bringing Cort on 87 mins and Hunt 89mins.........FFS were they supposed to influence the score or was AS trying to waste time ?.......poor,poor management decisions AGAIN ?

We certainly need 30. All JT is pointing out is that unless away form improves we probably won't make it. I agree with him. After all we are nearly half way through the matches and we are on 22 points. It's not rocket science.

Good jobyou're not a Gillingham fan. :D

I'd expect them to be one of the 6 teams fighting it out for the bottom 4. Along with Stockport, Tranmere , Wycombe, Orient and ourselves.

Away form that bad doesn't keep you up usually.

'dramatically' - this would be true if we were getting tanked every away game but we are not. We need to start drawing/winning more away from home, completely agree! Still don't think that the fact that we have not been up to now makes us an obviously bad team.

We're just less than the sum of our parts :(

But isn't that the point. It's not a bad team. It's a fair team following poor instructions. (I don't actually know this per se but I am surmising.)

You don't need to be a bad team to get relegated. You need to be a team that doesn't win enough matches. Whether the two are the same is up for debate.

You seem to be suggesting that some of the away games we have lost narrowly by one goal were unlucky.

As far as I am concerned we were tanked at Wycombe for example but lost 1-0.

Tranmere Reports

However you may want to look at it, we are consistently fouling up whenever we play sides that most of us would agree are p poor. It is only logical to assume we are making very hard work of this league and will be fortunate to remain in it. Its not treachery to discuss this, Its just so frustrating it makes us ****ing Angry

Tranmere Reports

You dont need to be a team getting tanked every away game to be relegated either. A 1-0 loss isnt much different to a 10-0 loss when we end up with 0 points at 5 o clock on a saturday again.

I disagree, letting in 1 goal away from home suggests the defence did OK, the problem is AS doesn't know how to coach a team to score 2 ?

So you disagree that losing 1-0 every game would get us relegated?
Andy Scott managed to coach us to score 2 or more last season.

The blame should lie equally at the feet of the players and AS.
The fact so many teams around the bottom of the table have beaten us is what worries me the most.

Another great couple of lines, but as always, it seems, short on actual argument! At least everyone else who is disagreeing with me is explaining why.

We have only won four home games ffs

Tranmere Reports

You don't need to be a bad team to get relegated.

You need to be a team that doesn't win enough matches. 0.

If you are a bad team you are very likely to get relegated, if you are a reasonable team that is not winning enough matches at the moment(especially away from home) you have a much better chance of staying up. On the basis of our season so far I think we are the latter.

Tranmere Reports

I think people are missing the point a little.......we had NO shots on goal!

Exactly. The number of goals we have conceded this year is pretty average really. In fact nearly half of the top 12 in the table have conceded the same or more.

The problem is obviously at the other end where we are now on less than a goal a game.

It is obviously our lack of firepower away from home that is causing the poor results. Whether you want to call it 2 goals in the last 9 games or 5 all season to please Jimbee, either way it is still the worst away goal total in the division.

In some respects therefore IslandBee is right as if we start scoring away from home we will turn 1-0 defeats around.

The problem is how do we do that. It is no good persevering with the same negative tactics hoping something will change on its own.

As far as I am concerned unless we replace the Bean/O'Connor combination with something more effective we will carry on losing away from home and will go down. Simples.
